What would you do if your child were in this daycare?

This week a daycare was temporarily shut down because one of the workers was taping a 2 month olds pacifer to his mouth to make him stop crying. Here is a clip of the news article about it.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Human Services says a 4-month-old boy was found in a darkened room in a Jefferson City nursery with a pacifier taping his mouth shut.
Department spokeswoman Michelle Mowery Johnson says the department responded Tuesday to an anonymous complaint that a caregiver in Jefferson City was taping babies’ mouths shut.
An investigator heard muffled whining from the bathroom. The boy’s mouth was taped with two-inch clear packing tape.
The nursery was closed today. It will be served with a suspension order from DHS and a hearing is set for Thursday before an administrative judge.
More details as they develop online and in Thursday’s News Sentinel.
I would be furious if that were my child. I would be demanding that daycare be shut down and I would be suing. That poor little baby could have died! Just last night I was watching the news and there are parents actually supporting the daycare. The mother of the 2 month old actually came forward and said it's not the directors fault and the daycare should not be shut down. I'm in shock over this! The daycare director in an interview said she had no idea this was going on because she wasn't in the center at the time.
I feel like the director is ultimately responsible for the workers she has in there. This is not the first time this has happened. I don't think there is anyway she would have not known about this. The daycare only have 24 kids. If the director can't keep track of what's going on with those 24 kids and her workers then she doesn't need to have a daycare.
What do you all think about this?

I can't imagine doing that to a child. It is amazing that the director wouldn't know that this was happening. I would assume that if one child was treated like that then some others were too. I would have any child that was in that facilty checked out immediately.
I don't know why the mother would be standing up for these people but maybe there is a reason that the rest of us don't know about and maybe she knows more than we do.

The mother supporting the daycare makes me think something underlying is going on here. It just doesn't seem right to me. Maybe she does know something we don't know. But from what I know I think she's crazy for supporting this daycare that could have killed her child.

I as well would be very furious at this and would take the apprpriate steps and have my child checked out and see if there was anything else going on there at the day care,I beleive that mothers should stay home with their children or ask there work place to provide daycare I would feel much safer knowing I was close to my child,I understand that its hard to make it but its things like what took place here that drives it home you can't exspect that someone else will care for your child andI wonder if it was a state funded program?Have a great day.

From what I understand it wasn't a state funded program. I agree with you about staying home with your kids. I know it's not always possible but if you can do it I would high encourage it. But that's just my personal opinion. I've been fortunate enough to be able to stay home with my daughter for the past 2 years.

I would be furious. They should definitely get in alot of trouble. What mother would say that this is ok and they should not be punished? How crazy!!

I agree with you! The daycare needed to be shut down and investigated! And everyone working there needs to be investigated! I can't imagine the parents supporting them...sounds like a lot of child abuse going on there!

Amen, I think this girl should have to do some time for endangering the welfare of a child, and I think your right the director should be put out of business. Ultimately it was her responsibility to make sure the people she employed were doing the right thing.

ugh this is why it is so hard and I am at home. I would rather starve than to put my kids in a daycarre because you do not know who you can trust. There is NO WAY I would be okay with this, and I wuld want it to be shut down too. Thier should be tougher laws on daycarres

Goodness!!!I would be furious! And to think the child's mother said it wasn't the director's fault! I'd make sure they closed. I would also rally for making proper guidelines and making the directors responsible for the running of daycares.
I know working women need to leave their kids at daycare. News like this get me worried (especially when I consider putting my little one in daycare). Even if I was happy with a certain daycare and put my child there (based on how I see a worker handling kids), the worker can always change jobs later and someone really mean can join. The person who runs the place needs to watch and guide their workers.

I would also be furious, what if the baby had a stopped up nose, how the h*ll is it suppose to breathe? That is just horrible. I think it should be shut down. If the director can't keep her workers from doing things like that, then she has no business owning a daycare.

The director is ultimately responsible for what happens in her daycare. Where was she then? And if there were 24 kids...wouldn't she need at least one other person there? Were they all letting it happen? Thats so scary. I think as parents there are times we would all love if our kids would keep their binkies in their mouths at times...but I for one, would NEVER tape it to my childs mouth.

Yes I heard this story, and I think they are sick, and should be shut down forever, and all the workers should be locked up ! I don't trust daycare centers at all.

Ok, I have jokingly said I wanted to tape the pacifier in my bay's mouth, but I would NEVER actually do it. That is insane. I would not want my child going to that daycare if it reopens even if the person who did it was fired. I would no longer trust in the daycare.
