Do you have emergency supplies set aside in case? Do you rotate them and check them? Does everyone in your home know where they are?
I recently started thinking about setting up an emergency kit. Just in case we needed it. Right now, if I had to, I could put my hands on the flashlight (don't know how good the batteries are) and I know where the radio is and bandaids LOL That's it. It's sad, I know, but I just never think of it. We don't even have a first aid kit in the house which considering how much I end up getting hurt you'd think we'd have a couple around. So, I'm going to set a goal to start an emergency kit and get at least 1 maybe 2 first aid kits.
Do you have a first aid kit? Are you prepared for an emergency? Do you have any good suggestions for what to put in the emergency kit?

I've seen well put together emergency kits for sale, but there are always other things I need to buy more than that. I do have my version of a pseudo emergency kit. I have a high powered flashlight (it's small but powerful - given to me by my dad), a box of premedicated band aids, neosporin (in case the band aids run out), granola bars, and an 8 pack of small water Ozarka water bottles. I know granola bars and water don't sound like they should be in a kit, but since tornadoes are very common around here, I wanted to make sure I had some supplies if me and my dogs ever got trapped under rubble.

I have a bag I keep in the bathroom with bandages and dressings, bowls, scissors, disinfectant, antiseptic lotion and burn cream. A bottle of clean sterile water is good to have on hand too. I can grab this bag if I need it and I have a torch near the back door and I have a Fist Aid Kit in the car. None of it is totally satifactory.
Fortunately, I've never had an emergency. A blanket is also a good thing to have handy in case a person needs to keep warm due to shock.
Oh, I also have a fire blanket and a fire extinguisher in my kitchen.

I have given this a lot of thought, twoey, especially since Katrina, but I do not know why I keep putting off doing something about my lack of preparedness. I do have a good flashlight(with fresh batteries). I also have a radio(no batteries). I don't even have enough canned foods to last for more than a few days. I don't have a first aid kit either. I used to keep one all the time. Maybe I should also get started assembling emergency supplies. I have a feeling that something is coming sooner or later.

We have 2 first aid kits in the house and one in the shop. We have food and personal supplies and a gas grill, a battery-operated radio, and things to keep our pet comfortable, especiallt the bird. One year our power was out for 5 days... we learned a lot about what we needed!

Nope no first aid kit in my house. Need one though. I am not prepared for any emergency at all. Like you I know where a flashlight is but no telling how long the batteries will last. I do know where a few candles are also but other then that no emergency kit of any kind. Well, it has been 3 months since you have written this discussion so has anything changed for you? You get any emergency kits? extra batteries, candles? Our electric has been off twice this month(December)due to the weather, but we just sit in the dark only using the flashlight to see by when we needed to go to the bathroom.Happy Holidays to you and your family. Hope you have a great Christmas and the no mishaps happen so that you won't need any emergency kits.

I have an emergency kit at home and in my car. Just the basics. I do have one flashlight that doesn't need batteries, that's the good thing.
I also have an emergency food supply just in case. Always a lot of water and some cans with veggies.

I really am not prepared for an emergency. I have a flashlight which I keep in my closet. I probably should move it next to my bed. I have a lot of candles and bandaids. I have batteries for the flashlight. Thank you for your post, I just move the flashlight and it's now in a basket with the batteries and bandaids under my bed. I will add the other items later.

Yes, we are prepared. We have enough food to do us for a year. We have 72 hour kits in our minivan, home and garage. We do rotate our food storage. We are also prepared by have knowlede of Standard First Aid and CPR. My husband is an EMT-M and he teaches SFA/CPR
We heat with coal so when the power goes off we still have heat and can cook on it as well. In fact, in winter, we cook on it most of the time.
We have solar radios and battery chargers that we keep in the windows all the time to make sure they have solar power.
We have first aid kits in all our 72 hour kits. We made them ourselves so we know what is in them.
72 hour kits are easy to make. You could probably find most of the things you need in your home already. You would just need to gather them up and put them in a transportable item such as bucket with lid or backpack. Some people even use garbage cans on wheels.

I am prepared not that anything major has happened wher I live but you never know. I have 3 sets of thing prepared. I have basic first aid kit in the car, home and garage. I have 2 sets of clothes for the 3 of us (1 winter 1 summer) in the car, I have few tins of food, light, canles, matches, 2 blankets (nothing big just some blankets that we also use to sit on)bottle of water adn some biscits in the car. why I have them is because of 2 things we went to watch rodeo in mid summer but it was frizing cold and we had nothing warm in the car, and pnce our car broke down in the middle of nowhere and lucky we were coming from holiday so we had plenty to eat and drink and wear for the next 8 hours.
From the things above I also have most of them in the garage and I also have them at home. I check everything for use by date and all that.

We have a medicine cabinet with a few basic first aid stuff. Bandaids, gauze, antibiotic cream, tylonal, but that's about it. We don't even own a flash light or a radio (let alone one that would work without electricity). I guess we are the ones knocking on all the doors looking for help if something really bad happens. Be like, "Can we invite ourselves to your prepared for an emergency home?"

We don't have one..and what's worse, we live in hurricane central (south Mississippi). We have lots of canned foods, but only because we use them often. When Katrina came through, we went north to my parents' house where they had water and supplies.

We have a few first aid kits. We have one downstairs, one in the kitchen, one in the diaper bag, and one in each of our cars. The ones in the cars and the diaper bag are both small, but they have band aids, antiseptic spray, neosporin, tylenol, etc in them.
We also have a flashlight and blanket in each of the cars, in case we get stranded somewhere.
As far as the emergency kit in the house, it has a big first aid kit, along with a few flashlights, plenty of batteries, a couple of blankets, a few bottles of water (we make sure we always have at least one full case), a nonelectric can opener and lots of canned food. Our pantry is down in the basement, which is the safest place in the event of a tornado, and the warmest place if we are snowed in. Those are the two things most likely to happen to us here, so our emergency stuff is in there, too. There is also a radio in there, some pet food, and a toy or two to keep my son distracted in case of an emergency.

This is something to think about,I have a flashlight.I do not have a em-kit.
But a blanket, soup, bandages, tape, tyenol, and any meds.you need would be a good
start.Water a must.We all should think about putting this together. They say
aspirin for a heart attack. These are just some things I think should be included.

I do have a first aid kit in my home, but I haven't checked it in a long time, so I guess that is something I need to add to my long list of things to do. I probably need to locate where it is first. LOL

Unfortunatelu I have to say no.i am not very much prepared. We just moved to a new country, new apartman, about 3 month ago and I still don't have any medicine at home. But at least I think i have good knowledge of first aid, like if you would be in nature and nothings is there, so I think I would just used something from home, to take care of the person. Also now i am thinking one emrgency kid is in the car.So we have one.
