Do you remember what you were doing when you heard the news?

It is said that everyone remembers where they were when they heard JFK and Martin Luther King and others were shot, or when the bombs were dropped on Pearl Harbor. I am not old enough to remember those things clearly, if at all, but everyone also remembers where they were when they heard or first saw the news about the planes hitting the Twin Towers of the WTC. We have seen the pictures and films over and over. There have been documentaries and interviews and articles. It amazes me that the media just never stops with this! It's been six years. I remember just as clearly as if it were yesterday, sitting in front of my computer at work and getting the news about the WTC. Work all but stopped then, and eventually we were sent home from work early, even though we were over 500 miles away from New York, and in Canada. I am sure the rest of the world was stopped or slowed in their tracks, too. Tell us the story of how you remember September 11, 2001.

Hello Kbkbooks~ I was helping my husband pack as he had come down on orders for Korea. We thought the first plane was just a drunk pilot or something. It took the second plane to bring us to reality. We lived on Fort Bragg, NC. At the time, one of the few completely open posts. My husband, who had been off that day, had his leave revoked. He went to the office. I called my two closest friends who were at on of the post gyms to come home. They did. We pulled our children from school and cried in front of the TV all day. It was horrible in so many ways. The post freaked out, they went on lockdown. It took HOURS to get back on post if you were to leave it. Many civilians could not get to work so the lines at the commissary and PX were... unreal. The traffic was unreal! Poor people who lived off post~ well, they were SCREWED. Even with an ID, it took at least five hours to get on post. It was very somber. We all knew that our husbands (and those who have wives in the service, wives) would be be leaving. We all knew things changed that day. You are right. It does seem like yesterday. I can't believe it's been 6 years. My youngest, she's 15, she doesn't remember that day so much. She just remember getting out of school and people crying everywhere. Guess this was our JFK, our MLK, day... The day did stop so many in their tracks. We are still feeling it too, so many of us.

That is being CLOSE to the situation, or at least only as close as I would want to get!

I was at the gynocologists office getting my yearly exam! LOL I remember going home and waking up my hubby who had just gotten discharged from the Marine Corp a week before, and I was crying because I was so happy he was home, safe and in bed! We watched CNN in disbelief, and I was so grateful his term was up.

Somehow your icon is so appropriate for your answer. I am glad your husband was home safe with you, but I am grateful that he put in his time serving the citizens of the US in such a honorable way. Thank him from me.
