Being Jobless Means Having a Lot of Free Time?

I was talking to a friend and she whined about how much free time and how lazy I would get because I am out of the job market for awhile.
But wait, I still have a long list of things in my mind I need to finish. Like I need to fix things with the Tax Department, go to the bank and fix something, working on all my internet projects and explore more opportunities, writing on things that I am interested in, kicking off a blog project and taking photographs in various places in Hong Kong to complete another something...etc. I could go on and on about my list.
I guess she doesn't see those as "work" somehow. Yes I might have a lot of "free" time (if you think working at home is somehow free!) but I don't agree with the "getting lazy" part! It depends how we all manage our time and how to use our valuable time.
What's your view?

I don't have a job either, but I don't think I am lazy or so.It really depend on you how you will manage your time and what you will do with it.If you like to be active and need something to do all the time, like me, you will find something to do.I don't think i have so much free time and didn't get lazy. With me it is pretty oposite.beucase when i was working I was always tired to read a book or exercise and now I have for all this time.Of course if you are kind of comfortable, you will get lazy probably. But how I said really depend on you and only on you.

That's really true! It really depends on the people on how they are going to use their time! You could have limited time and still waste it!

I agree with you... not having a formal job doesn't mean not doing anything at all... when i was jobless for a few months... i was actually able to accomplish a lot of thing that i had to put off since i don't have time to do them...i was able to do a lot of thing like going to the bank, other govenment offices... updating my profile at the Social Security office... etc, etc, etc...
I think i was even busier than when i was working full time... the only difference is that with this one... there are no deadlines to catch and no boss to nag you about the job to be finished...

When I got out of the job market, it was because I started as a secretary, then the next job I got was as a steno, the next office job I got was as a file clerk, and this with long periods of working as a ward aid, taking an upgrade course, and working as a housekeeper assistance in a residential home for retired professionals, not to mention picking strawberries, etc. So sometimes one gets to feel that they would be better working at home. At least, I do not have to put up with bosses that do not want to pay me --I was a telemarketer for a while or delivering papers that almost broke the shopping carts I used. I got the feeling that I was either not suited for outdoor job or that no one would pay me.
So it might be that you are mainly a self=employed individual and you would be better working on your own. You are not being lazy, you probably found your true potential. Working at home is not as easy, and you have to budget more closely. Just disregard your friend's insistence that you are lazy.

oh yes, I agree with you.I can be jobless but still have so much to do and accomplish. I guess they see it as your free time because you own your time,I mean you are not bound by office hours, and it doesn't mean being lazy..you're right,it's how you manage your own time.

I disagree that because you don't have a job means you have a lot of free time or that you will get lazy. I had a long term job and was injured at work I haven't been able to return and may never be able to but I stay very busy with my home my husband and son internet projects errands hobbies and an endless amount of things I do I push myself to do things even with the pain from my injury. But I am not nor have I ever been one to be lazy or sit around and do nothing my brain never stops it kills me that I had to slow my body down. Just because someone is jobless doesn't mean free time or laziness there is always something that needs to be done even if its just to bathe or clean house. If people are lazy it's their choice not because there jobless. Come to think of it I worked with some lazy people haha! That's my opinion. Take care.

I don't see how you could be 'getting lazy' with everything that is on your to-do list.

people just don't realize that work is work regardless you are self employed or not. when I was employed full time I used to think I wanted to have my own small business. Now I have it and it's more stressful and more work that I have to do myself. The only difference is that this is my dream, what I like to do, so all those times I spent for it I didn't regret it at all. I work temp job to help pay renovation and yes I can feel that people think I'm lazy working temp, but hey why does it matter what they think anyway?

Exactly! Their thinking doesn't matter as long as we live for our dreams and spend our time according to the things we want to do!

I don't think being unemployed necessarily means laziness and free time. I mean if you want to lay on the couch and you do nothing then yes, but it seems very much like you are going to be busy as a bee when your not "working". Working from home with these projects and to do lists are just as much work I would say. Don't pay attention to your friend. You know you best, she might be a little jealous of your endeavors lol, you never know!

A few weeks ago I had a week days off from work. I didn't I had a lot of spare time. On the contrary, I found the time was not enough. I had so many things to do. So my schedule was quite full:)
Although at present you don't work, but I know you are very hard working to earn extra money via the net. I hope you will earn more. Good luck:)

*laughs* Yes, I enjoy being in front of my computer in the morning and afternoon. In the evening, I plan to catch up with all my readings *laughs*. I know what you mean! It seems that having a week off is good, then you discover that you have so many different things to do and then eventually time flies!

I want to be jobless to have a rest. My boss did not approve my annual leave which I had asked for three times. How terrible!
If you get out of the job and work at home, you will have more time at you disposal. You can decide what you really want to do.

I'm jobless myself (if jobless means not having a regular job) but I can't say I'm lazy. In fact, I still can't find enough time to do all the things I have in mind. lol

I know what you mean. When I had a regular job before I made my living by investments, I somehow found the time to read 10 to 13 books a month, now I haven't read one in years. I worked 9 to 10 hour days then and fairly often had to go in to handle some emergency in the middle of the night. But somehow now there just isn't enough time to do half the things I did then.

It's easy, she's jealous. I have friends that say that very same thing to me and then call me at all hours from work to complain about their jobs and say things like "well, we can't all stay at home". They're jealous because they are the lazy ones who do not want to work and they resent anyone being able to stay at home. Also people will always critisize the things they can't understand or things they can't do themselves to make themselves feel better. Writing and working online serisouly are not things that everyone can do, you need an IQ past 12 to be able to understand it and do it well. Ignore people like that and when they start calling all day asking you to do favors for them... and they will, don't answer. You can't get your work done and get paid if you are constantly running around playing free assistant to all your friends. I learned that one myself the hard way. Good luck!

Very true! I remember you mentioned the friend in your discussion! I sure won't do anyone favors *laughs*. I got my things to write and things to complete, even though I am not earning much around here and on the internet, those are the stuff that I would love to do. Got an idea for the Yuwie blog and did research on Hong Kong history all morning, how free could I be? *laughs*.

I'm sure you'll have fun and keep busy. It's nice to be able to do the things you love to do. And who knows maybe big $$$ will follow? Oprah does say that when you follow your passion, the money will follow.
And that friend, yup she can be quite annoying sometimes. She's a good person it's just that everything is an emergency for her, she can't do simple things like grocery shopping w/out calling me in a panic over how to tell if bananas are fresh or something like that. We have a lot of fun and she has a big heart but sometimes I need to take a break from her for a while.

You know people are accustomed to see work done at the office and not at home.
They don't accept or realized that there's so much opportunity to have jobs at home. That on line jobs is the trend nowadays.
Actually, you tend to do more work from home than the office.

Just becasue you don't have a conventional job doesn't mean you're lazy. As long as you're keeping your mind and body busy,, I don't think it counts as laziness.

Don't count on having much free time! All things rush to fill a vacuum, so the first thing you must do is guard against allowing clueless people to impose on you. Your whiny friend will no doubt start expecting you to do things for HER, since she thinks you have all this free time. She won't be the only one, so you may want to think about protecting yourself now.

Yes I suspect too! Otherwise, why would she mention that I would have all the free time in the world! *laughs* Some people are just whiny in nature and some just want to take advantage of their friends' "free" time. Ha, I need to wait and see which category she falls into. *laughs*, thanks for the reminder!

Sometimes it does mean that, but I can see how others see it different. When I was unemployed I had plenty of freetime and had a nice MMORPG to fill most of that time. Got a lot done in it and saw I had a ton of freetime. Didn't last long though since I found a newer career to work at.

Wow, it sounds like you have more on than some people who work full time. I don't think you will get lazy or have lots of free time with your list of things you want to get done. The only way you'd get lazy is when you are sat at home as you have no job and there is nothing you want or need to do.
However,i don't think you'll have this problem, think you'll be a busy bee!

*smiles* Well, I think if I don't want to do anything else, I would still want to mylot. Therefore only mylot could get me busy, but now, there are just more things to the list *LAUGHS*.

I get your meaning I think.Being jobless is a chance to make up some things you aren't able to do when you had to go to work everyday and it is a valued time to make youself more aknowaged ,a time for further study ,right? Well,it means good prepared for better job really.

Although Iam surprising myself, I think I seem to be siding your idea.
I would have certainly said you are getting lazy if I had not started to blog; now I can be certain that any free time can certainly be utilized in productive ways on the Net.
Again, if this "being jobless" goes on for long, I think you will yourself start getting bpred and also inclined to look for full-time jobs that is your "first" love.
All this assistance-on-the-Net etc is certainly good but when we look at the bigger picture, you still yearn for a full-time job where you sharpen your grey-cells. Once they are sharp, we can certainly help others who need it.
