When is your National Day? How do you spend your National Day?

China

Well, in China, our National Day is October 1st. All the nation have a seven-day rest or holiday. During the holiday, some people choose to stay at home and some choose to travel to some other places. Also some who work far away from their hometown choose to pay a visit to their hometown for their loved as this is a good time for them to go home for a visit. Right now I am enjoying my holiday with my partner and we plan to travel to Hangzhou to do some shopping as there are many things on sale during the holiday. I am sure that we can get some nice bargains, especially garments. Anyway different people have different plans during the National Day. When is your National Day? How many days do you have a rest during the National Day? And what is your plan for the National Day? Do you stay home or go travelling? Or do some shopping in the city? Or whatever? Thanks for sharing your idea in advance. Love from Williamjisir

New Zealand's national day is Waitangi day on February 6. It commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, which was an agreement between the Maori and the British allowing New Zealand to become a part of the British empire, and in exchange giving the Maori equal rights. Every Waitangi day they launch a large traditional canoe, people can watch this if they want, but it happens really early (around sunrise) so I don't think that many people go and watch... for me, on Waitangi day I usually just relax the whole day :).

Thank you very much for the information about your National Day. Now I see better why English is spoken also in New Zealand. So Maori is real local residents in New Zealand like the Indians in America. I think that you National Day must be very funny as you have some traditional canoe activities to participate in and watch.

August the 31st is my National Day. It was just a month before with one day off. The grand national day celebration was held in the state of Malacca where the great ancient china sailor, zhenghe had visited several times in the 15 century. There are still some relics left by him, like the well which he had used before. Now it becomes one of the tourist spot there. Hope that you could get some garments especially those ready for winter, with economical price during your shopping.

So your National Day in Malasia is just one month ahead of ours. I am glad to know that. Thanks for your information. Zhenhe was really a great sailor in China's history, who made great contribution to not only China but also the world in the history of sailing. Usually when the garments are on sale, it is not winter garments, but summer and autumn garments, because the garments shops don't want to keep them for next year so their money can be got back from the sales of the seasonal garments to make the money better used in their investment.

I had just watched from TV the portions of celebration of the China national Day in respective provinces with grand atmosphere and tremendous joys especially in the vast and historical square Tian An Men of the capital city. Seven days holiday is a long and good vacation for anyone who either loves peacefulness or fond of traveling. I can imagine how lively the atmosphere is, everywhere in your country. What you said is perfectly true. Businessmen always try to clear the old stocks before the new arrivals. Many years ago my hubby and I visited Beijin in an early winter. My hubby ignorantly bought a suit of autumn wear in a local market there. He told me he would never forget that severe winter lol...

I am glad that you love to watch CCTV to get to know some domestic news and all the other. By the way, is it CCTV Channel 9, as it is the only English channel from CCTV that offers English program? I guess so. Maybe you can also tune other channels as well from China?

Wao william! you just reminded me, my national day is 9th October, that is the day we got indepedndence form our British colonial masters-unlike you in China, we here in Uganda make it a one day affair, but it is naturally a day of great festivity-so we are looking forward enjoying the festive occasion.

Hi williamjisir! This holiday is quite busy for me.In fact,I visited one of my primary classmates on the first day.He is about to get married at the begining of next year and his apartment is newly decorated. Then my boyfriend and I spent two days in Hangzhou. Its such a nice place, although I have been there for so many times,I have never got bored of it.We visited Ling Yin Temple tuesday afternoon. It was very crowded and well-organized as well. Then my boyfriend took me to a fancy restaurant called 'Grandmother's kitchen',its so impressive! After that I spent three days in my grandmother's home---a little town two hours away from Shanghai. I thought I would stay at home at the last day of the holiday, then get ready for work, haha.

So you must have had a wonderful holiday in Hangzhou. Yes, it is always a nice place to pay a visit to. Every time I go to Hangzhou, I love to go to the West Lake to talk a walk and have a look at the lake. Another place that I love to go is the downtown area in Yan An Road. It is a very busy street with so many shops along both sides of the street and many things are on sale especially during the holidays. Thanks for your response, monica.

Hehe, William, although this is the 6th day of the Golden week. Happy National Day to you! Well, I also went home this time on last Friday, but I just had 3 days off and had to go back to work on 10/2 since I've got really many foreign customers who don't have such a Golden Week:) And as a Leader, I should work harder than others:) Andy

Happy National Day to you, dear andy. I am so sorry that you didn't have enough days to have a good rest. I did have a seven-day rest at home from 29th to October 5th. Today we started to work and will have to work 12 days straight before we have the next days off. I love holidays as always. hehe.

In India, we celebrate two days as our national days. One on 15th August as Independence Day. On this day India became a free nation. Main function is held at Red Fort in New Delhi. Prime Minister unfurls the National Flag and addresses the nation. The day is a national holiday. Second on 26th January as Republic day. On this day India became a democratic republic. Main function is held at Raj Path in New Delhi. A parade is taken out. President takes the salute. This day is also a national holiday.

Thank for the information about India's National Day. I didn't know that you have had two National Days. Now I see--one for the Independence Day and another for the Democratic Republic. It is a significant and historical milestone in history.

During schooldays, National Day celebration was a sacred thing and we were eager to listen to the speeches at school, wear the badges, participate in the marchpast going through the town, and wait for the distribution of sweets. Of late, it looks like thing of the past, because it the politicians of the present day who are totally dishonest, speaking about patriotism. With great respect to the past freedom fighters, the present day leaders are totally dishonest, corrupt, natorious and totally useless. So the celebration lacks the grace, charm and enthusiasm. Instead of paying tributes to the leaders of past era, they glorify themselves and it is less said the better.

My country's National Day is on 9th August. This day is a public holiday, so it is usually only a one-day break, unless it is before or after a weekend. We will usually have a grand parade and show in the evenings, culminating in spectacular fireworks. Some people will choose to take a short holiday break in a nearby country during this occasion, but for me, I prefer to stay home, take a rest and watch the parade "live" on television. I would love to be there at the parade itself to see the event "live", but usually the tickets are limited and the demand far exceeds the supply. But over the years, I've had the opportunity to be at the parade on a few occasions.

Just one-day break? I think that the government is supposed to give its citizens more days to rest like what we have, as this is a big event in the history of a country. But anyway the activities on that day are really wonderful and interesting though. I hope that you can always have some fun on this day. Thanks for your response, lexus.

So most of people will just have a rest for one day. I feel lucky that National Day is our second biggest holiday besides the Spring Festival. We have many more days' rest during the Spring Festival.
