Or privately watching DVD in your house?
For me, I feel more comfortable watching DVD, in my place. Sometimes we rent the DVD and watch it together with friends and provide some snacks and drinks for companion.
I know that watching DVD maybe too late because ussually new release are available in cinema only, but doesnt matter, watching in cinema dont make me relax.. what about you?

hi afternoontea,
Usually i watch movie in cinema hall as bringing DVD in house, not fullfiling the purpose of seeing the movie. The main purpose of seeing the movie is to relax for quite sometime. movie in cinema hall means putting off the work, phone, appointment,no guest,no relatives for some hrs, jst see the movie and enjoy it whereas brings DVD means not sure that each and every scene of movie is completely seen and enjoy as in home there are so many things which may bother you and which not known to them and us also that we are in schedule to watch the movie.
anyways, not much bother, part of life, whether DVD or cinema hall. i think for DVD, friend of similar nature is required.isn't it so.

Oh yes, you are right.. I like watching drama and romantic comedy with friends at home so that we could cry together when there is a very sad scene and paused the DVD for a while to take a break..LOL

Hi afternoontea. Basically, I will depend on what movie is it and whether anyone asking me out for the movie or not. Haha. Anyway, I don't really enjoy home DVD, I don't know why, maybe I don't really have the time for that.

I will usually know what I want to see right away and what I am willing to wait for on DVD, however it really depend on who I am going with and what the day is. For example, my wife and I go out and enjoy movies all the time; it might not be as much about the movie as it is about going out with my wife and enjoying the night. Other times, there are movies that I really feel the urge to see in the theaters. For example, I am a big Indiana Jones fan. When Indy 4 comes out, I will definitely make a trip to the movies for that; but other movies that I am warm on or just don't feel the need to see in the theaters, I will wait now.
I like watching movies at home. No need to get fully dressed up, you can eat whatever you want with the movie, and my wife and I can just get comfortable and watch it together.

Depends on the company, I guess.
If I'm with a bunch of movie addicts, most definitely we will watch it in the cinema. We have this thing about who watched it first. LOL. It's a weird thing really among movie geeks. We're the type who falls in line for a Lord of the Rings or Star Wars pre-screening. LOL. It's not a relaxing place to be in, but in this case, it's the movie we are after - and we cannot wait. Hehehe.
If I'm with my non-movie addict friends and family, definitely it's gonna be at home since it's not a big deal how old the movie is. And yes, it's more relaxing at home. Besides the free food and drinks, you can lounge around, any position you want on the sofa. :-)

I love watching movies in the theater. ONE day I would love to get a huge flat screen tv, many speakers all to make it like the theater. I LOVE movies and own over 200 dvd's! However, I do watch them at home too. But I prefer unless its rated "R" and I would rather watch it and fast bad stuff then I try to watch at theaters. But its cheaper on dvd truly some places like the library charge less than a dollar. We had a library in orange county up to 5 dvds per week FREE. So yeah dvds can be cheaper but both are great if you ask me :))

I think that would be suitable enough. With the loud audio at the cinema, we can hear even the tiniest tick of a matchstick that fell from the movie. It is more exciting and enjoyable to watch at the cinema.

I prefer to watch movies at the theater. I like to see things before someone can ruin an ending for me, thereby ruining the movie. And I like the theater experience too. I like the big screen and the fact that it's so loud. I enjoy the popcorn too of course. The chairs are usually very comfortable.

I prefer watching them on DVD once they are released. That way I am in my own comfortable surroundings, and if I need to get up and go to the restroom, I can pause the movie rather than miss something.
Not to mention my furniture is much more comfortable than any movie theatre I have ever been to, its also much cheaper to watch it at home!

For the most part, I enjoy snuggling up on the couch watching a DVD, especially on a dreary winter's day/night. However, I do think fast paced action movies are best viewed at the cinemas, with a large screen and surround sound. Everything else is just as good on DVD - plus you're not limited to snacks supplied by the candy bar!

I prefer to watch them home. I don't think there are many movies that I could not wait until they come out in DVD.
I like to watch movies with my friends and/or family in my home, comfortable and in my own settings. If I want to go back to a certain scene I can, if I want to stop for some reason and start again later I can.
As a bonus watching a movie at home does not give me a headache as it does when I go to the movie theater. I don't know why that is, but it always happens, so it's one more reason to watch movies at home.

Afternoontea, nothing is better than watching movies inside a moviehouse. One really feels relaxed when one views a movie inside the theater and you really can focus your attention in watching it without any interruption. However, going to moviehouses nowadays are quite expensive especially if you are with your family plus the hassles of going through heavy traffic just to get into moviehouses.
Foregoing considered, I prefer watching DVDs at home.

I recently wrote a whole AC article on this subject but here are the main points:
I really like the notion of going to the movies but the experience of going has been marred over time by the rudeness of many of the people who go there. Rewind about a decade and there weren't the kinds of problems there are now with talking, cell phones ringing or people insisting on bringing their infants with them (babysitters still exist, don't they?). That last one is my personal favorite. I remember going to see SAW III last year and there was this family with a five-year-old kid and an infant in a carrier. I don't know who deserves a bigger "shame on you!" over something like that: the irresponsible parent or the money-hungry theaters that allow it to happen.
I live literally within walking distance of a 15-screen multiplex. I drive 22 miles away to go to a theater that has a no babies, no one under 13 in an R-rated movie (13-16 has to be accompanied) policy. They simply won't sell you a ticket to SAW III if you show up with your five-year-old. The distance and accompanied expense of these outings has forced me out of seeing a lot of movies on the big screen but at $9.99 a month, Netflix is my friend and I can watch what I want after I put my son to bed.
