A Surprisingly Peaceful Day

I spent most of the day with my mother, who was off work recovering from her spinal tap. The good news is, that in the 4 years since I've had it, and of course in the 15 years since she has had it, they have greatly improved the method in which they do it. She was at the hospital all day Tuesday because they make you lie flat for hours before releasing you. She had to spend the rest of the lying down at home.
But this morning I came over and she was up grading papers. I was surprised and pleased! She did have a headache for a while, but nothing near the migraines of the past spinal taps. One more day and she will be out of the side affect danger zone. So we talked a lot today and I brought her lunch. We painted our nails and gabbed, just like girls. We had a really good day, but don't worry, she did rest. She was very tired, but she plans on going to work tomorrow.
It was such a pleasant day that I was able to forget about the little things going on wrong around me. I have got a lot of things on my shoulders, but knowing my mom is doing OK covers a lot of the worry. We still don't have her test results because it could be 2 days to 2 weeks before they know.
So when was the last time you could say you had a peaceful day for the most part? I don't mean entirely peaceful because that is pretty hard to achieve. I just mean enjoyable and peaceful enough that you forgot the other problems waiting for you.

I thought this was a very nice discussion. It forced me to sit and relaxed and think of someone else. I will continue to pray for your mom. I think you are a very good daughter. You really are. Hopefully, you know it. I didn't know your mom was a teacher! Surely, a good one, too.

Thank you. And I know my mom would appreciate the prayers greatly. She teaches at a local college, and she also teaches online from a different college a few hours from here. She likes to teach online, because she can be sick and still teach.

i think we all know what is having a burden on our shoulder and needing a bit of peace and rest..Itry to have a bit of time for me as soon as I can..it might be having a long and hot bath at evening when coming back at home, having a hot cup of milk or tea and reading something relaxing or watching one of my favouirte book..or it might be a day spent with my mother..she is the most special person I know and we love spending time together..we are so close to each other and as you wrote, when I know that she is happy, I am happy, too...tomorrow she is coming and staying with me for a couple of days.we hope to have a great and peaceful time together!!!

I'm glad everything went well for your mom, and you had a nice happy and peaceful time together. Most of my days are peaceful now, but I have had long stretches of time with constant crises and hardship, and having to deal with so many things my head felt like it was spinning around. I appreciate peaceful times now.

Oh I know. The day I posted this discussion seems long gone. My mom hasn't had the results of her test back, but now she's dealing with some other problems. I don't even know where to begin to help her or myself. Next time I have a peaceful day, I am going to enjoy it even more. : )

Hi Ambie!
Im so happy to hear that your mother is doing well! Thats really good. Im sure that was a huge weight on your shoulders, your girly day seemed to work that out!
Everyday is a task for me, Im looking for work, going to interviews and nothing is going my way. Im a little more at ease, my husband said some things to me the other day that made me feel better about things. So the last few days have been rather peaceful.....wheeeew!
Its nice not feeling the pressures day in and day out and actually relax for a change.

I have a friend on MyLot who is going through something similar. She needs to get a job, but she's been on interview after interview and she has found nothing. She's the one who introduced me to MyLot. I see help wanted signs everywhere, but they are never the right kind of jobs for her, you know what I mean?

I wouldn't settle for a job at a restaurant either. I wouldn't expect anyone with a college degree to do so. College is hard work, and you've gone farther than most. My mom has two Masters, and at one point a couple years ago she applied to a job she really wanted, but you know what they said? OVER qualified! I mean c'mon. You work hard to find a job that won't waste your talents, and then they come up with that. Or someone who is friends with the guy who is hiring gets the job. It's crazy.

I dont want to sound holier than though here, but Im 35, I have education and I have experience and I dont want to be behind the counter at Micky D's waiting on people, or working at a gas station. I want more than a Job, I want a career, a position that I can grow from.
I know exactly what you mean!! Its frustrating, its embarassing almost and I feel like the world is not seeing my strengths. I can get interviews but I seem to freak out and mess them up! I need to take a class on how to be interviewed....lol I get nervous when Im being analyze by someone, and no matter how hard I try to over come it, I think it makes it worse. Ive got to do something though, Im NOT going to take a lesser job than what Im qualified to do! Plain and simple.

Sounds great, the time with our family is precious.
I have had a peaceful day too, working on my computer. I cannot do it for long at the moment, my back is in pain if I sit too long.
This happens rather seldom now, but this time it has lasted for a week. But the only thing we can do to help ourselves feel better is use our mind and think that we are getting better and better.
There is always something to be grateful for.
I once read about a granny who fell and broke her leg. She thanked God that it was not her arm, since she liked so much to do crafts with her hands. Well, that was positive thinking..hehe..!!

I love the final comment. In one hour I found four discussions of my friends deleted. I undersood why on one, maybe the other one, but the other two I could see no reason for the deletions. I am glad that the spinal tap went easier on your mom. There is some good news about modern medicine. I find that in order to have a peaceful day, I have to actually be sick, then I do not feel guilty about goofing off and relaxing. I am hoping to have some peaceful days this weekend visiting family. Have you seen any of the murals in OKC painted for the centennial? My dad is in one. I will be down in your neck of the woods, sort of, this weekend.

Actually, most of my days are pretty peaceful. I stay at home for the most part, with my husband and just do my thing around the house. Yesterday it rained all day, so I curled up with a good book and fell asleep in my lounge chair! Something about the rain on our tin roof.....

Ha ha. This message didn't have to self-destruct!:P
I'm glad to hear your mom has had a better recovery than last time. Science can really make breakthroughs medically in a few short years. It sounds like you had a really great day...caught up on a little girl time.:) My last peaceful day was with my sister. She spent the day with my hubby and I, and we just sat around at home watching goofy stuff on the internet and laughing and cutting up together. It was simple, but really enjoyable to be with her and my husband. I hope your mom is doing okay.:)

That sounds like fun. Some times the most simple things are the most enjoyable. And thanks for asking about my mom. She didn't go to work today, although she had gone the day before. I think though it was still from the whiplash from the car accident and not the spinal tap.

Glad that all went well for your mother and that you had a peaceful day. There always seems to be something going on in my family, with siblings and my own daughters, that I really never have time to focus on my own troubles, which right now tends to be finances, but I put that in God's hands and let him worry about it, because my worrying about it I would never have any peace.
I had to chuckle at your last statement, I have noticed several discussions have been deleted for no apparent reason as well.

Hi AmbiePam, and I am so glad that your mum was feeling pretty well after the spinal tap, and was able to enjoy such a peaceful day with you :) It's hard to rermember when was a peaceful day for me, but I enjoyed a lot the day that I went with my dad for a day trip to Amsterdam, and we were both happy to be in eachother's company, and alone among thousands of people, and at peace with all the troubles we have i our lives. I miss him while he is not here, but love to know he is doing fine, and I'll see him again in a few months

I'm so glad your mom is doing well. Hopefully all the test results come back okay. I know it's hard waiting!
I'd have to say the last time I had a relatively peaceful day was probably before I got pregnant. I found out very early in my pregnancy that I have placenta previa. Many women with this condition either deliver early or have to go on bed rest at the end of their pregnancy, which worried me because I have a very active two-year-old and no one to keep him if I were on bed rest. So that worry has been in the back of my mind for quite some time. Thankfully I have had no problems yet, and only have about 4 more weeks to go. There are days when I can almost put it out of my mind, but that doesn't happen very often.

Yay! im so glad your mom is doing ok! I was wondering about her. Im glad you guys had a great day together! You know my life, not much peace around here! I guess its most peaceful when both kids are napping, or are at my grandma's. I have plans when its quiet to clean house and do this or that around here, but sometimes, i just sit here, TV off..and enjoy the peace and quiet!
