The Sum of Our Experiences

I believe that the sum of our experiences in life ultimately shape us into the people we become. I know that the popular theory is that we are all products of our environment, but I think it goes deeper than that. I say this because I have seen people who have come out of the worst situations in life and managed to rise above them. The opposite can also be true. I know of some who came from the best homes and had every advantage possible, but their lives took the wrong direction. People often say that you have to play th hand you are dealt, but I believe it is all in the WAY you play the hand you are dealt. If you make enough sound decisions in life and catch the good breaks you can succeed. If you repeatedly make bad choices and don't catch the good breaks you most likely will be doomed to failure. What are your thoughts on this?

When we reach a certain level of maturity, that is the time we make the choices, the decisions....such decisions are now more logical, practical in a sense, balanced. It is the decisions we make in life that carry us on to life, great if make the best or the better ones. All decisions ultimately will shape our person. It will all depend now on the individual as to which direction he would take. I would relate this to success and happiness as well, our pursuits of success and happiness entirely are based on the decisions we make, the goals. Other people may be happier with less, others would consider themselves successful after achieving simplicity of lifestyle, most would relate success to money, fame and wealth. Everything else depends on an individual as to how he perceives the varying concepts. Certainly we are always to encourage positivism within our circles as we would like to see people, especially family and friends, shaping their lives in the the most meaningful ways. MAny thanks, perry

Your response is very insightful, UNPINOY, and success does mean different things to different people. Some people can be very happy without all of the trappings of success, while others feel that they have to have it all.

I agree COMPLETELY with you. It's all about playing the hands you are dealt. I've also seen some people who experience similar worse situations (at least in my opinion they're equally bad), but they have different attitudes in life, so they turn out to be different people. Some of them becomes bitter and cynical, whereas some others can still be hopeful and graceful and joyful no matter what. I believe in this adage: "Life is what you make it, always has been, always will be." (Grandma Moses)

I can tell that you have a positive attitude, ailema, and that is great! I think it would be so wonderful if everyone were able to remain positive when faced with adversity.

I completely agree with you...!! Yes its true that you will succeed if you make rgith decisons and get good breaks..!! People name these two things as "LUCK"..!! They say you put as many efforts and as many hard work as much as you can but the thing that matters at last is their "LUCK"...!! now hows that..?? I really have no belife in this..!! The at last its only you LUCK that matters. YOu always need to give it your best efforts thats it. But still I have seen such "lucky" incedents by myself only..!! People sometimes get really luck..!! :)

I must say that luck does play a role in your life and the direction it will take, stella(love your name). When certain factors converge it sometimes makes for an interesting outcome.

You are right, naty. I call it the Cinderella Syndrome. Everyone loves to hear a good "rags-to-riches" story now and then.

Hello there. I agree with what you say. We are who we are today because of the decisions and choices we made in the past. Who we are going to be in the future is the consequence of the decisions we make now. Therefore we are the sole architect of our lives, for better or for worse. =D

yes, i agree with you... i also believe that circumstances, environment and people play a significant part in shaping the type of person we become... but the most important thing is how we take control of our lives and make wise decision in our lives that shape us... we can't blame people, environment or circumstances if we become bad or unsuccesful people... there are many successful people that come from a bad background but they fight and choose to live a better life and they did... so we are responsible of our own lives...

I can find no reason to argue with you on that, lingli. All of these things do come into play in the shaping of our lives.

I believe we have a hand in dealing the hand we want to ourselves. In other words, we create our own lives and destinies. No mattter what hand you are supposedly dealt, you can fold and start again with a new hand of your own making. You create your own breaks as the universe favors no one. There is plenty of good stuff for all. You just have to be grateful and ask for the cards you want.

I can only agree with you up to a point, sigma, because bad things happen all too often to good people. We sometimes have no choice as to the evil that can come into our lives and change us forever-no matter what cards we are dealt.

I do believe that we are a product of our environment .To back you up I'd have to say that the environment isn't just in the physical sense but an emotional one as well.If you were brought up in such a way that you were encouraged to seek your dreams or had the ability to meet a mentor ,I think that can effect the way your life's direction plays out.

Entirely true, pismeof. The mental environment is just as important as the physical one. Also, there are those among us whose sole purpose in life is to deprive us of our dreams.

Yes I think, By and Large, you have it right. Except I think we are here to remember, and to learn to Remember. When you were in school did you ever think," I know this already!" Like all you had to do was remember how it went? That happened to me often. If this is so, then we just have to get an opportunity to remember something and its there for us. Perhaps this is why some make such good decisions, while some continue to make poor choices.I agree that we have to play the cards we are delt, except some of us can remember which cards are trump. Look Inside and Remember, and, Remember to Look Inside! Love and Salutations!

Experience is the best guide in whatever we do and will do in the near future. No one I know without any experience in the happiness and sadness in life. If the happiness is the end result then he will be guided by that experience, but if it sadness then maybe he can avoid same thing to happen. There are poeple who dont care about that, but for sure it is helping them in one way or another.

Yes, it is just as you say, bagumbayan, experience speaks volumes. Some people will benefit from their experience while others will not.

Exactly, I completely agree with you. What we become now is simply because of what we did before. What choices we made. And what invironment we were molded. That is why it is necessary to make right choices in our lives so that we can expect success over failures in the near future. ^_^

Yeah true, worldwise. But life doesn't matter on how much we fall but it's a matter of how many times we rise everytime we fall. ^_^
