How, When and Why Did You Become a Mylot Member?

Canada
October 8, 2007 6:22pm CST
I just responded to a discussion from a friend who said he's been a member for around a year now. I have always wondered about the how, when and why people decide to become Mylot members. So if you are up for sharing that with me I would appreciate it. In my case I resisted becoming a member because I could not fathom why people would want to talk to people they did not know. Some of you know that I became a member when a friend of mine sort of twisted my arm. She felt it would enjoy it and there would be opportunities to let other out there know about who I am and the worked David and I do in the communications field. With some resistance I finally gave in and signed on. A couple of months later that friend and her husband committed suicide and it was my unfortunate task to make the Mylot community aware of the tragic end. So my introduction to Mylot came through a friend who is no longer with us..and now every day when I log on I think of her and wish she was still here. She did a wonderful thing for me because I love Mylot and the amazing people I meet every day here. The outpouring of support for me, my husband and Tammy and Rob's family was very touching and genuine. For any who would like to check out Tammy's site it is: http://mylot.com/tmlnmr. When she left many within this wonderful community felt a true sense of loss that came through from those who knew here...and even those who did not. That is just one of the many reasons I keep logging on every day because as with most of us we know the connections we form a real...and very satisfying. I learned how rewarding exchanges with people 'you do not know' can actually be. Within a short time I came to know a lot of people that are great on-line friends and I am fostering some that I hope to meet in person one day. So that is the how, when and why of how I became a Mylot member...care to share your stories...I'd love to hear them! It will provide another level of understanding about how and why people join...and why they stay. So thanks in advance... Raia

Oh. How tragic that seems. It's kind of strange how your friend introduced you to this wonderful site and be able to experience and gain wonderful insights and friendships and then learn after a few months that she will take her life. Hmmm. Was it her purpose for her to introduce to you this site before she leaves? Hmmm. I have not come across any of her posts or responses, or maybe I wasn't aware. But either way, I do sincerely hope that both her husband and she would be in a better situation now. Going back to the question. I accidentally came across a site where there was a guy promoting this site, who would then be the person who referred me here. I was actually just trying to find out about earning on line, but I never got to it. Instead I tried to log in here, and found out this was a surprisingly addicting site! It wasn't anymore of the amount I earn that is important. I just learned that it feels good to be here. You can do anything, vent, ask questions that you are concern about, chat with friends and so on and so forth. I found this site to be amazin! And so I am still here not mainly for the reason of earning, but for the other wonderful things it brings me.(:

Hi Raia. It is so good to hear from you. I know you have alot on your hands now, and I'm happy to know that you seem to have plenty of projects coming your way. Good for you. But, what is more better is that knowing you will "never" not be around mylot. hehee You are so very interesting to talk to, so philosophical, and I am sure I am not the only one who appreciate your contributions here. I am glad that the family of Tammy and Rob they left behind, have somehow accepted the situation and are starting to heal. That is really good news. And am sure by doing so and letting it all go will make it more easier for the couple to gain more peace. Oh, thank you by the way, I have received your e-mail address and have sent you mine as well. Well, you never know, it could just use as well as back up. Greatly miss you. Well, take care and lot's of more blessings to come.

Hi my friend... Thank you for your encouraging words and heartfelt appreciation for my offerings here. It is important to me that you know how much your honest evaluation and open validation means to me. Knowing that something I say assists others is a gift back to me...because it is what I want to do with my life. I think I have shared with you before that the reason I wrote my book..and write and communicate ideas is because of something I read..."Those who have met the challenge and mastered it have a moral obligation to share it with others." So that is why I love to offer what I know has worked for me. During my most helpless/hopeless periods it was often something I read or heard from another that fueled my belief that I could also overcome what I was struggling with and through. So yes, I will endeavor to make time to share with fellow Mylotters because what I receive from hearing how others respond...the wisdom, grace, strength, insight and love that comes through has profoundly improved my feelings about the world and who is in it. Sometimes the media portrayal of humanity and where we are headed sounds bleak and dismal. Knowing how many wonderful people there are out there through meeting them here inspires a sense of hope for the future of the planet that is enriched with every on-line chat with friends like you. So yes, dear one I am also glad we have another outlet to stay in touch. The bonds we have developed are already strong and I would hate to ever lose contact with you...so lets make sure that doesn't happen! Hugs, light and love... Raia

I love the way you mirror things to me...and it is of great value to me what you express in your observations. I sense your insightful intuitive nature and trust what you say. I have been busy with other things and will be as my hubby and I return to marketing my book and doing more workshops in the coming year. However, I will never not be around...I so value my connection with you and a few others that I have come to feel a soul bond sisterhood with. Sorry about the exchange of e-mail addresses...and thanks for reminding me. I am sure you find that too...if you don't do something like that right away the mind moves on to other things and then completely forgets. So if you do not receive it..send me an e-mail. When you do, please send a 'yes' back. I would love to make sure we have other ways of chatting and keeping in touch. Especially if I am not here as much...that way we can send 'how are you doing' e-mails and chat about things beyond this public forum. So thanks for always been such a tuned in friend. Your comments and observations about Tammy and Rob are meaningful. Their family put out some very large full page 'eulogies' in local papers and that is a good sign to me. It sounds as if in the talking more openly in newspapers about what happened they are starting to heal and accept the choices they made. So yes, they are into the next realm of metamorphosis and I believe with more peace than they had here. So love and warm, bright blessings coming your way... Raia

I did not know about Mylot a few months back. I have relocated to a new place and have a language barrier-I can't converse in Hindi and this place has most of the people speaking hindi.I was a very good freelancer, with a big tuition centre of my own where I taught a large number of students. In this new place I missed my students, the fun we had in my classes, and wanted to keep myself occupied. I started learning how to use the computer and did some freelancing work for international sites. I used to keep writing yahoo answers , and enjoyed doing this. Of course I would like to share a naughty thing I did-I WROTE PJS ALSO[some people like them -basically it is a sort of word play and it would also provide light relief. Shall I give you an example/ But oh Raia I am a bit worried that I will fall miserably in your estimate-does not matter;I will tell you what it is. There was one question on yahoo answers where a student had asked as to when two stones one thrown vertically up and another one down would meet [with some more figures that neede to be worked out. I knew it was a Time and Distance sum and also found out from my husband that it had something to do with GRavity. I simply wrote the answer as follows-''when and where they are fated to meet. sorry for the pj-just some comic relief for you-a respite from studies because the problem is not only of Time and distance but one of ''intense gravity''too. My son called me a big rowdy but my answer was chosen as the best answer. I have digressed. The point is that I came to know about this forum when I was reading yahoo Answers. Then I signed in.

I love this feeling of connecting with other people, and like to read meaningful discussions. We are living in different parts of the world , but still are laughing and sharing jokes with one another. It is great. This is what makes it tick.

I joined MyLot primarily because I was stuck at home and wanted to be able to enjoy the discussions from people around the world. I will never earn a fortune on here, only a few pennies at a time, but the friends I have on here are priceless

Wow...how true that is...priceless friends...I like that term. Yes, the payouts are a lovely little perk...but yes the connections we make here are worth so much more than any amount of earnings. So a big ditto for me! Thanks for adding to the topic...and so long for now. Raia

Hi.. Well I am sure you will have that happen. I have always received payouts as promised. However, I think as most members discover the earnings are far outweighed by the amount of amazing connections we make with each other as we share ideas and learn about other countries and cultures. So I wish you continued satisfaction in all your Mylotting experiences. Raia

Hello Raia i was offline for a bit and thats the reason for "no comments' LOL its good to be back and i must tell you online friends are same as offline friends i missed talking to everyone. And as for how i joined mylot. it was really strange i got internet connection at home some 7 months back and i just used to browse sites and i found a site where they were talking about different ways to make money and i just 'stumbled' on mylot LOL. My name though appears under PCWorks who is a member here so maybe he was the one who started that site but i don't know him personally :) And Tammy and hubby its really sad they chose to end the their life so early but it was their choice and we got to accept that. And i read your comments on your site as well. I don't really know if you read Harry Potter so i don't know if you know Dumbledore but he happens to be my favorite fictional Hero and i love one of his sentences which is something like this " its not our abilities but our choices which really show who we are" we all seem to have more or less the same abilities but how we choose to use them is what makes the difference and if Tammy and her hubby made that 'choice' to leave this life we got to respect them for it. I know certain religions or 'school of thought' will not agree with it but then end of the day its always our choice. And i am sure you will meet them one day beyond the veil and also though they may not be here physically they are always with you and all those who loved them.

I am not sure how I missed your heartwarming response so many months ago...sorry about that. I only caught it now because Twoey brought the topic to the top by adding her response. Thanks for your always, kind, thoughtful additions and your approach to Tammy and Rob's passing. It shows respect...and I value that. None of us know for sure the 'right or wrong' of any religious format...but I do know for sure that love is the foundation and governing body of all that is. So thank you...and so long for now.. Raia

First off, hello, welcome to Mylot and thanks for adding to the discussion. I am not sure what you are expecting in terms of 'lots' of earnings. It could well be more for those who live in your country than what we make in North America because of the exchange rates. The system I use is this: Create an interesting page and complete questions on your profile so people can see what your interests are. Post photos if you can. Read Mylot's guidelines and follow them or you will have discussions deleted. Be sure to follow their recommended 400 word minimum on all discussions and responses. Invite friends that have interests similar to yours and visit their sites and thank them when they come to yours. You will foster loyalty and enjoy chatting more. You are obviously already a polite person by the way you ended your comment to me and I respect that. If you treat other members the same way it will be appreciated. Rate everyone all the time. Assign best responses. When you reach 500 post images if you can it increases earning. So that is my system and it is working for me. Hope it helps you get started and increases your earnings. In the meantime make friends, chat up a storm...and most of all enjoy yourself! Cheers, Raia

Hello and welcome to Mylot. Good to see how many new members are showing up every day. I am sure you will have a good time here and I appreciate you letting me know how you discovered Mylot and why you are here. It you read Mylot guidelines and keep the minimum 400 word or two paragraph posting you will stand a better chance of increasing your earnings. So make friends, rate everyone, post interesting discussions and topics and you will do well I am sure. Raia

I have been chatting on forums since 2003. I was ban from two Australian forums because the moderators could not handle the truth. This is the bad thing about moderators. Rather than moderate... they ban those who have a different opinion than their. So in Nowember last year... I ended up on Yahoo Questions and Answers. I was only there for two months when someone from myLot spammed Yahoo with a referral link... and I checked it out. That lucky person has made a lot of money from me. smile. I don't usually follow links... but that time I did. My reasonning was that if I was going to spend hours online answering questions... I might as well get a few dollars out of it. So you could say that I came here for the money... even so... the payout is an insult to my intelligence. laugh.

Hi again... So now I know how you came to be here...it is of interest to me. Here we are a group of people having a meeting of the minds in Cyberspace. Is it be chance, coincidence, grand design, like attracts like...or just down to the dollar sensibilities like yours that brought us together? Whatever it is money, the love of ideas...the ability to express our differing views...I am glad to have a chance to connect. The pittance is a little perk for doing what we enjoy anyway. So in my view your ideas are worth a lot more than what you are being paid. Perhaps it is just your contribution to the greater good and a way of making people bump up against their prejudicial way of looking at things...especially those hard-headed moderators! Anyway, I am glad you found your way here and continue to stay. I would miss our chats immensely if you decided to go. Cheers my friend, Raia

I've been here for seven months now..wow has it been that long?? And it was by accident..or was it, for as we know there are no accidents in life, right? It was actually through one of the Yahoo Stock Photo groups I belong to...someone had posted about MyLot...they, the group didn't like that as they considered it spamming, and probably was, so most ignored it, uh, except me of course and I joined up and haven't regretted it--I probably spend way too much time here, but what can I say, I'm addicted to the place...I try to multi-task, for instance most of the night I was writing up an article, when I'd get stuck, switch to here, then when I wanted to write, continued my writing...Now I'm finished with the article and submitted it to AC..so now I'm back again..LOL

Hi Pyewacket.. Thanks for offering the how, when and why of your Mylotting experiences. I tend to agree with you that I may spend a little too much time here as well. But after being here for coming on to 5 months I am finding more effective ways to maintain a visible presence here...and get other writing projects going too. David and I are planning to start running our workshops in the New Year and I'm doing marketing plans for both companies. So like you I love Mylot and plan to keep my membership active as long as possible. Your participation here is a great asset to the site and it is good to know you plan to stick around too1 Warmest regards, Raia

I cannot remember how I arrived in mylot. Perhaps, it's one of those forum I used to joined. But I could not really remember if I've been referred here by anyone or that perhaps I just found this site by accident. I became a member like 3 months ago, and since then I've been active here. I'm always excited checking how much I've earned everyday.

This is my story. My two officemates were talking about e-mails sending notes to someone thru e-mails, playing computer games, when one of their classmate told them why not log in at mylot instead of doing those things, you will learn and you will learn. So they logged in and they told me you might want to log in. While not busy in my work I log into my lot, reat about it and applied to be a member. I was accepted and from then on I started to discuss things and respond to some discussions that interests me. Thats how I became a member, and I still continue being a member discussing things to someone I dont know but have the same intereste as mine. This is also my way of relaxing.
