Headache, How do you fight against it?

I was working this morning and i felt how a big headache was on its way...within 30 minutes or so it was already there, and it really hurt bad this time. I asked a workmate for a pill and i had it, and it seemed to work more or less, but the pain was still there. Someone whose opinion i really respect told me that Midol is a great solution for it. Do you friends know what's the best way to get rid of headache? please i'd appreciate your help.

I never do anything special to ward off my headache.. I just go lay down in my bedroom with all the lights shut out, and go to sleep.. And when I wake up after 1 or 2hrs, its gone.. Only on rare occassions do I require putting on something on my forehead, like some balm or ointment...

I know, it really troubles many people when it strikes u in the day while u r at work, but I don't care abt it when it strikes me during the day.. I don't pay attention to it.. I just divert my attention on something else, either by working, or by going for a stroll downstairs... I don't really like taking medicines just to ward off the headache...

The problem with that is that i cannot always just go to bed, because it happens during the day and i have many things to do. But as a remedy it's nice, yes.

Usually, when I have a headache.. I just fight it. I mean, even though it hurts, I will just continue what I am doing. But if it really hurts, then I will take some medicine to help me ease the pain. Pain killers. :) I think drinking medicine is the best way if you really want to remove the pain in a shorter period of time. Best of luck. I hope you feel okay now.

I also continue to do what i am doing, was just thinking about things that will make it easier to continue without having to put up with the whole pain. Anyway, thanks a lot for your thoughts :)

Probably, you should try to check what you have been doing that caused your headache. I mean, it could be possible that you haven't eaten for awhile that's why you head starts to ache. For you to feel better, you just have to eat to ease the pain away. Or it can be caused by stress, you worry too much, etc.. that's why you head starts to ache. You just have to think of possible reasons first and then think of what you should be doing to ease the pain.. Like eating or even sleeping ,.:)

I learned to take medication as soon as I feel the headache coming. I used to wait a bit hoping that it would go away and my doctor kept telling me that I was making it worse, because sometimes if it gets too painful then the regular medication might not work as well as it would if I took it before it was that severe. So now, as soon as I feel it coming I take 2 tylenol extra strength and it often works. Sometimes I have bad migraines and tylenol does not always help there. I often have them for at lest 3 days and it gets a bit difficult to go to work when I have them. The doctor prescribed this very expensive pills that I only buy a few at a time and take when things are really bad. But they work right away :) If it's not that completely bad I tend to come home as soon as I can, close the curtains, make sure that there is no radio or tv on and lay down for some time. It might not make it go away because it will still be there when I wake up, but it helps a bit to rest.

When my headache starts, I don't do anything at first. No pain reliver. But when mild nausea sets in because of the severity of it, that's the time that I take a medicine and sleep it off. I really can't do much because the more I make a movement, the more pain I feel. Most of the time, when I take the medicine and sleep it off, by the time I wake up, I feel ok already. No more pain even a slight one.

A natural remedy you can try is using activated charcoal capsules. These can be purchased in many health food stores. Try taking two at the beginning of a headache. They will help remove toxins from your bloodstream, which in many cases will cure the headache.

Headaches....very irritating things on earth!! My mother always say that when your head hurts then try to stop thinking about that pain....and try getting indulge in other works which can make you forget that headache!! Well it doesn't sound that easy but hey this works...I myslef tried it once. It actually works like anesthesia as you tend to ingnore that pain your self. But one cannot practice normally and regularly. YOu can always take a painkiller. Or You can give your self a head massage. Or get a half n hour sleep. A sleep works a lot on headaches. there is one more thing that you can do to calm down the pain, press your both eyebrows with both of your hand right hand on right eyebrow and left hand on left one. Press the eyebrows deep down to your ear's back going from down side of the ear not the upper side of it. Do this 10-12 times it gives a great relaxing effect. Remember that you sit all straight while doing this. This is one of the thing practiced on spas to relax you down! Or you can always take a break and go have a coffee!! :)

It really depends on what type of headache and what you want to take for it! I have migraines and find the only thing that works is taking migraleve as soon as I feel it starting. An ice cold flannel on the forehead can help as can running cold water on your wrists or having a massage on your head, neck and shoulders to relieve the stress! xxx

When I get headaches what I do is just rest until the pain goes away, refrain from doing something that might cause more headache, like thinking or anything that would take up oxygen from your brain. Often times I go to bed and sleep or get some fresh air.

Fresh air sounds like a good idea. I have done that sometimes...it always relieves a bit when you feel a breeze of fresh air on your face, doesn't it?

Hi LightningStrike! When i have headaches, I usually take Biogesic or Paracetamol. I guess that works out for me just fine. But if the headaches is not really that strong, I usually just try to sleep it off or sometimes place a cold pack over the area on my head where it hurts. Take care and have a nice day.

It depends on the headaches,if it is minor headaches or severe headaches. In my case i always have headaches, almost everyday. Before everytime i have headaches i just take the pain,i dont take any medicines to cure it.But later on my headaches becomes worst, its very painful and i feel like my head is broken. So i need to have check on the doctor and they found out that theres no such thing to b worried.I just have to rest my self, sleep well, and dont think or worried much.Stress can also cause of headaches.

This is probably too late to help today... but in the future, if you've had less caffeine than usual that can bring them on (or if you don't usually have caffeine but you did today, that causes some people to react violently!) I've also gotten relief by putting ice around my head and neck, and using lavender essential oil. Midol can work well if the headache is related to your cycle. Probably goes without saying, but if it doesn't go away/gets worse, you should get to a doctor - headaches can rarely be a sign that something's very wrong.

thanks for the advice kathi. I don't think my headaches are bad enough to go to a doctor though, but if it got that bad i would go, no doubt.

IT really all depends on what kind of headache it is.. Tylenol is great for headaches, I've tried Advil they work good too.. But the doctors say Tylenol is the best and it's alot easier on your stomach.. I'd have to say though I have never tried Midol for a headache...

I will have to do some research about what tylenol is made from, since we don't have that brand here, but obviously we have the same substance, just under a different name, so I will find out which. thanks for responding.

If pain killers as such won't work at all, I'd sit back and give it a rest. It could be that you're sleeping less hours, so a "power nap" might do the trick (let's say a 10 - 30 minute sleep). Some of our elders here apply herbal medicines on their temple, where the aching mostly comes from.

i wish i had the time to have a long nap....anyway i had about 20 minutes and it felt so good...i think it helped. thanks raijin.

Well, for me, it would depend on what was casing the headache in the first place - there are so many different types. If it happened at work, maybe it is your eyes? Perhaps you suffer eye-strain from the computers or machinery, and need an optical test? Or dare I say perhaps you have a hangover (!), or at least too little sleep last night, in which case drink lots of water to relieve dehydration, and a early night will help. Some headaches are actually migraines, in which case a trip to your Doctor for tests will check that, and then they will be able to give you the right prescription medicine for you. Otherwise, lie down in a dark room, try to sleep, and maybe take a Panadol or Paracetemol might help. Hope you feel better soon.

Headaces often have to do with being dehydrated so I would suggest a few cups of water and maybe an exedrine. Caffine can sometimes help too, exedrine contains caffine and I find that it is one of the best headache medicines. If you are trying to sleep I would suggest aleve.

Hmmm...I don't know how bad your headache is, but usually when I have headaches, a Panadol would be strong enough for me (only if it's just a headache without any flu symptoms).
