One of my daughters friends has almost constant headlice. Its frustrating for my daughter and i, because she keeps passing it to her. I treat and check often. I don't have contact with this childs mother (strange family) but i feel its wrong for me to keep her away, its not her fault her mother isn't dealing with it. I try to make sure my daughters ties her hair back and manage it that way. Talking about nits just makes you scratch doesn't it lol

Well peanutjar, the oily, grungy hair wouldn't get them as easily as the clean hair. Yep, one way to avoid lice is oil. Sometimes if you are around someone with head lice you may be able to ward it off with a hot oil treatment. I also heard that lice doesn't like hairspray. Also if your daughter, (I know, she is only 5), but if you get explain the importance of not sharing hats, scarves, brushes or barrettes, then she should be ok. The other way they travel is through hugging someone.
Also the school should check every once in a while and since she does go to school, it wouldn't hurt for you to also check. It's not as bad as it sounds if you are cautious about it..
Oh and how do I know all this. My older children had gotten it, but only a couple of times throughout their school years. So, we have had it here. Also, and this is if you do have the problem, take her stuffed animals and put them into a garbage bag for a few weeks and wash all the bed clothes and her clothes in the hottest water possible and even with bleach if possible. vacumming is also important, but they may have something out now where you can just sprinkle a powder and vacumm, but I don't know, it has been years since we had a break out..

To tell you the truth we're probably in contact with people all the time that might have head lice and not even know it..but I do have to tell you sort of a funny???? story
One time I was in my nearby Walgreen's to get a few things..a very nice looking woman was ahead of me...uh, then I noticed the items she was buying. I kid you not, but she must have had about 20 bottles of every imaginable lice removing product going..when I saw that, I kind of backed away from her and gave her a wide berth--LOL

I had it when I was in grade two and it was awful. My son is allergic to flea bites and other things so I am afraid if he gets bitten by one if he may react. The schools here do not allow children that have it to attend school during an outbreak. My children luckily never had them. I think it is more important though to teach own children not to share personal items like brushes, hats, bedding, towels etc rather than outcasting someone who has them. I didn't have any control over the fact that I got them. My mom brushed my hair with someone elses brush who had it. Once we found out I had it my dad gave me treatment. There was a child in my daughter's class who had it and all the kids freaked out. They were running to the back of the class treating him like a leper. She even went and hid her very long hair under a hood. I was horrified she acted this way. Once she understood that they aren't going to go flying across the room, mainly it is past by close contact, she felt bad she was outcasting the child.

I never knew how someone could catch them.I thought they jumped from head to head, lol. Now i know, haha.Children usually do "follow the leader"things. What the other kids do,my daughter does and she doesnt really know why shes doing it,shes just following the others.:)

Hello there. I remember when I was in Primary school, I had this classmate who had head lice. My mommy told me to stay away from him as the head lice on his hair can jump onto my hair if I go near him. I heeded my mommy's advice and did not go near him. I think having head lice on the hair is terrible. I remember him always scratching his head during that period of time.
