We went to the doctor and all she said was put a hot towel on the eye many times a day. I have never had one before and this is a first for one of my kids. The doctor said it is not contagious. But I was wondering how do people get them? Is a hot cloth the only treatment out there? Thanks

Ouch, I know those things really hurt. I don't think there's much you can do other than hot compresses, but from what I've read, they only last about 5 days. I hope your daughter feels better soon!

How old is the little one? There is a very simple harmless treatment suggested by our elders-just try it. Rub your right fore finger on your left palm vigorously and now keep this finger on your cheek. You will realise it is hot. Now rub the finger again and place the hot fore finger on the daughter's sty. There will be no harm whatsoever. But be careful not to poke her in her eye.Keep it flat as many times as possible. I repeat , please be careful not to poke her in the eye. Ask her to do it herself if she is not a baby. It is on the eyelid I guess. People get it due to different reasons-heat in the body .this is what they say in our country.

Underlying principle seems to be the same. -to apply heat .

Then it is not a problem. I used to do this in school, when I could sense the beginning of a sty and soon it will vanish.Show her, she will do it without hurting herself.

Thanks for that advice, she is 12 so she may be able to do this herself.
