Hunting season is starting up here and my man is spending more time on that then me. The men out here are driving around the streets honking their truck horns, the back loaded with a large cooler and huge moose antlers. Every other house has hunting gear airing out. My boyfriend is very interested is hunting which I am fine with though I don't eat meat. My sons can't wait to turn 12 and get their licenses to hunt. They go out with him looking for game. I see this glow in their eyes. But I was wondering why people enjoy hunting so much? Have you ever hunted? Do you have a hunter in the family?

Hi Vicky, as to why - it's the genes since Ancient times. Guys were hunters and providing for the tribe, and their mate and children. My uncles are hunters, and they do kill some animals each year, and even though I understand that some need to be shot because otherwise they'll become too may foe the space they have to live on, I still think it's cruel and feels sorry for the animals.

Thank you Vicky for the BR ;) and don't get too upset when he comes back after a "successful" hunt with his family members - things are as they are...

Insects and rodents(like rats) are the only ones that I do not mind killing. Other than that, I would only kill an animal if I had to for protection of me or my loved ones. I am a hopeful vegeterian. I have been wanting to give up meat for many years now. But, it has not been possible.
To me, animals are so cute and most people hunt for sport and not survival and I can not get into that. I do not have any hunters, that I know of in my family.

He does hunt to eat the meat so it isn't just sport but he does enjoy it. I am glad I don't eat it and he doesn't bring that stuff here. Thanks

I understand where you are coming from Vicki, in my family, I have a son, a brother, a son-in-law, that drop anything they are doing, and spend their time hunting, and fishing! I myself love to hunt, and fish, it's just that to me there are other important things that I have to do first, and rarely find time to do it! I'm a steak and ;potato man, so the meat doesn't go to waste!

Yeah he uses the meat to and counts it into the meat supplies for the year. So it isn't just sport but he enjoys it a lot. He fishes all the time too. But there are other things you can spend your time with, like me HEHE Thanks

Luckily for me my husband doesn't hunt anymore. WHen we first got together he use to go deer hunting with his father but he never enjoyed it, so after 2 winters of me refuseing to touch the meat or cook it in the same pan with anyhting I planned to eat, he decided that it just wasn't worth it to go sit in the woods by himself for hours just to please his father.

Hello!
I have never tried hunting before and I don't think I can, i'm not brave enough to do it. It sounds fun and challenging though but still thinking of those poor animals breaks my heart. I reckon the closest encounter I had with animals was in our farm, chasing the chicken for meal or the pig for roasting..*hehe* but killing them scares me.
BTW, your title is funny, bunny ears and tail...*hehe*. Take care. *smile*
ciao! c",)

My brother and uncle hunt my ex husband is a hunter (not a very good one) andmy boyfriend is a hunter. I have never been on a hunting trip but I hear it's fun. I don't like the idea of killing and skinning and all that yucky stuff. But I don't knock the people who do it it's just not for me. I did tell my boyfriend I would go hunting with him when he decides to go. I have a feeling that when I see the deer I will end up yelling "RUN BAMBI RUN!!!!" LOL. -Amber

When I saw this discussion I thought about animal rights. Well, do they have it or not? I'm still uncertain if I am pro hunting or against it. I think that it could help in controlling the population of animals but come to think of it, isn't there any other way to do this? I still don't have a clear position on this issue probably because I haven't experienced hunting myself. But there is a high possibility that I might not take pleasure this activity.

I agree I think of animal rights too. I don't really understand why they enjoy it, but they do use all the meat as their supply for the year. Not just sport but use it. I wouldn't do it myself though! Thanks
