I really need to know people. WHY on earth when you move out of a place, whether it's an apartment, a flat, a condo, whatever you call it, IF you're renting, why do people leave so much stuff behind?
I heard a bunch of noise just now. Looked outside, and there are our poor maintenance and clean-up crew cleaning out an apartment that these young females just moved out of last week. They left behind headboards, a carpet steam cleaner, a whole bunch of something they had all bagged up, so not sure if it was trash or what. But I've been seeing a lot of this lately.
Everytime we have moved out of a place, I get ALL the stuff out, and clean it up real nice as well. I never leave behind furniture or trash or clothes, makes no sense to me.
So is that how you are when you move? Or do you see this happening as well? It just makes no sense to me, and amazes me how rude people are. Well it doesn't amaze me, because people are horrible these days and don't care about anyone else. Yes these men are doing their jobs, going in there and getting the apartment ready to rent out again, but it takes a lot to clean, repaint, and fix things up...but to have to clean out the last tenants crap? Well that makes no sense to me. People just don't care about anything. Sorry, needed to vent!

I am with you I don't understand this at all. I got my first apartment when I was 19 years old. I moved out after a year and I remember my mother saying to me. You always leave the place cleaner then when you moved into it if possible. Will so far in my life time and my many moves. There has only been one house I moved into that was clean. The reason for it was because the landlords were decent people and hired professionals to come in and clean it. They themselves were washing the inside of the kitchen and bathroom cubboards the day I arrived. To be honest with you I left the rentals I lived in much much cleaner then when I actually lived in them. I just can't bare the thought of leaving my dirt behind for someone else to clean. One house we left stuff behind but that was because the landlords said we could because it was beneficial to the home for the new renters. That happened to be work benches in the garage and a couple of wall shelves for storage in the garage. Garbage and stuff that is just not right! A pain in the butt maybe but not someone else's responibility.

heehee you said, "To be honest with you I left the rentals I lived in much much cleaner then when I actually lived in them."
i'm the same. i don't dust that often, or mop or vacuum as often as others might, but when i move, man that place is spotless. but i like you don't want them talking about me when i leave, in there cleaning and complaining about my dirt! haha!
thanks, you understand!

hehe.. i also use to rent a place and when i moved in there's still some pieces or wastes in the cabinet and lots of dust from previous renter. i just don't like cleaning much so i spend like the whole day cleaning my apartment now the day i moved in.

i'm just hearing a lot of people say that they have to clean before they move in. aren't places supposed to be clean for you to move in? it's so sad, cuz i have to wash and disinfect everything before, cuz who knows who's nastiness is where in there, haha!!

I am the same way as you. Everytime we've ever moved I've made sure that everything was removed from the home. The things we no longer needed, or that were broken, were hauled to the dump. I think it's very rude to leave your mess for other people to clean up. I've heard of some rental agencies and landlords charging their former tenants, or keeping the deposit, if they have to clean up the tenants' mess. I think that would be fair, and would deter tenants from leaving a mess behind.

I know what you mean about people leaving stuff behind when they vacate their apartment, flat, etc. I have a cleaning business, and sometimes when we got a move-out clean as we call them (end of lease clean), we would find all sorts of stuff left behind, and we had to get rid of it. We have removed couches, tables, chairs, bags and bags of clothing. Some of these apartments are disgustingly filthy, and I don't know how people can live that way.
You are right, people just don't seem to care about other people anymore - the least they could do is remove their rubbish and leave the place clean. People never cease to amaze me, they can be so selfish.

i managed an apartment building about a year ago. i was the custodian, the manager, the maintenance woman, EVERYTHING, which stunk, cuz i got to know my people, then they would move, and i knew who the slobs were and such. then when they'd turn in their 30 day notice, and i knew they were slobs, i did NOT want to go in and clean up. it's so sad. i'm not the cleanest person in the world, BUT some of these bathrooms were HORRID, like they hadn't been cleaned in YEARS...and the kitchens? how were they never sick?
it was a ROUGH, tough, NASTY, pain in the butt job!! haha! i feel for you honey!!

When we move we move everything out and get rid of what we don't need or give it away. I then spring clean the whole apartment, house or what not from top to bottom. I cannot leave a place without it looking like brand new (well close enough LOL). To me its just common sense AND I would rather get my bond back than lose it.
It seems those girls were just PLAIN LAZY and didn't care about cleaning it up and making it look presentable for the next tenant. Sad I say!

we have donated a lot and dumped a lot with every move, but why leave behind a mess? guess i think of others, i think, "who would have to deal with this if i don't?" BUT it sure seems like not everyone thinks that way eh?! horrible!

I don't understand when people leave stuff either. We always leave the place in better shape than when we got it. But, we always have to scrub any place we rent. They are always horrible. We've had to scrape dried up food out of cupboards. It's so nasty. In one of the apartments we rented, we had to get the underwear out of the kitchen cabinets. I just don't understand people.

haha we do too! then they contact us late and tell us they couldn't beleive what a great job we did in leaving the place so nice. i mean it's not hard. i just don't get it. i've moved into 3 different places where i had to clean up after the previous tenant as well. that's bull. it's supposed to be done for you. so gross. underwear out of the kitchen cabinets? oh, i don't even want to know HOW they got in there, why they were LEFT in there, and why mgmt didn't take care of that....i would have thrown a fit...that's just not even sanitary...too many nasties in this world!!

Probably because it's easier for them to just leave whatever garbage and stuff they don't want inside the place than to drag it out to a dumpster. Quick packing method is to just pack up the stuff you need / want and leave the rest.
Personally, I like to clear everything out and sweep things clean.

i do understand not wanting to drag everything out to the dumpster, it IS a pain! and i guess it's easier to just walk away from it all.
but the dumpsters ARE there, and it feels so good to clear out stuff!
but i like you, like to get everything out and clean up after myself....it shows respect to the mgmt/maintenance/cleaning crew, AND to yourself as well.
even if i am upset at mgmt, i wouldn't trash the place. i would rather them come in and say, "wow, this person CLEANED up...thank goodness" instead of, "UGH pigs, dang, we HAVE to clean this up? jerks." haha, don't like people talking smack about me!!

Hi. frecklelip334. I can understand how you are feeling. That is how it was for me when I have moved too. To this place that I am in now. And in another mobile home that I used to stay in. Plus a house too. And another mobile home. Make that an apartment as well. All five of these places, we had to clean them all before we move in it. I don't know why people don't clean behind themselves. I know that we always try to clean up any mess that is ours when we move out. Even if we still have things that belongs to us inside of our place, it still looks clean when we move out. The last place that we moved out of, me and my husband cleaned up. So, the only thing they had to do was to inspect it and replace the blinds and also, repaint too. People just don't be caring and they may have been evicted on such short notice too. But still it does not explain why the place is filthy inside of it.

My tenant moved out last month from a house I own about 75 miles away. I had to rent it since the market was so bad. They left my 2700 sq ft colonial trashed. They smoked like fiends inside and I have had to scrub down the yellow nicotine oils from everything. The house smells real bad, the carpets are stained, the yard is a complete mess. gashes in the walls and moldings. disgusting bathrooms. why can't they treat the house like their own??
