Do you gamble...either in real life or online? Do you lose alot of money or do you have a limit?
I don't gamble simply b/c I have horrible luck. A friend of mine though that lives up North goes every Thursday rain or shine. For a long time she'd spend all of the money she took with her and then use the winnings till they were gone and come home broke. I pointed out to her that if she quit when the money she took with her was gone and brought her winnings back home she'd have extra spending money. That's what she does now.
Somewhere I read once that the secret to gambling is to ride hot while the luck is with you but when the luck is cold, quit.
What is the worst loss you've suffered gambling? Have you ever had to join a support group to quit?

I love going to the casino. I don't go that often, I don't have a problem with it. I live about 1 hour away from 4 casino's. I will go with a set amount to spend, I don't look at it as losing money, I am spending money. I usually get to eat for free, have a good time and sometimes come home with more money then what I started with. I usually spend about $30 for a day out, thats really not that much for all day. I am a cheap gambler, I like the nickle machines. The most I have "spent" is probably around $60, thats not bad. I have a dream, I am going to win a few hundred and then I want to go to the $5 machines and spend $100. I am too cheap and also to scared and/or smart to put money in the $5 machines. But if I win the money and its extra, then I can. I don't know if I would be brave enough to do that.

My daughter knows when I have won on one of my casion excursions. I always buy a small stuffed animal jamming a $100 bill in the box. So she waits for those little stuffed animals from me. It's been awhile though. Ugghh! Hahahahaha!!

Im not to much on gambling...My son and daughter inlaw has taken us several times to the casino, but im a terrible gambler...My daughter in law however is very luckey, she always wins...then when she hits it big she always shares the money with everybody..She will hand out 200.00 or 300.00 to us and make us take it so we can try to win more..She is the one that won the million dollars on a sratch off,she is so luckey..We have a little thing we do in our family, everytime we buy a scratch off or play a game at the casino we reach off and rub her for luck..haha..but we never just go by ourselves..

I can't gamble online, I always loose so I don't think that they are fair lol. However I have a funny story about gambling. When I turned 21 my mother took me to the casino to try and "cure" me of my desire to gamble. I used to set up poker games with my friends and learned how to play blackjack. It was my goal to play the tables. So I sat down with my limit of 40 bucks and ended up winning 300 in profit! Since then I can always go once a week and make at least that much at blackjack. As a tip for all reading blackjack is the only game at a casino that has 50/50 odds so it is the best game to play as long as you know how. If I play the slots I always end up lossing all my money. And I might know how to play poker but those guys are hard core professional and you really have no hope of winning unless you are as well. But I enjoy gambling. And I don't have a problem because I know what games I can win at and what I can't! I also have a system. I put my winnings in one pile and the money I came with in another. If I spend the money I came with then I quit. I think that is my secret to always leaving with at least what I came in with. Usually a lot more!

Oh, I love to gamble. We were playing Keno last night - I won on almost every card I played. I only won enough to keep playing though, not enough to recoup my losses. Gambling for me is entertainment only. I take how much money I know I'm not coming home with. If I win and bring some home, that's a good thing!
That I can think of, my biggest loss was 20 minutes at a craps table - $300. That was NOT fun... But, I got most of it back at another table and could play the rest of the night on it.

I'm not a gambler at all (except the occasionally lottery ticket). I think it's a complete waste of money and in that time. I see nothing fun about it. I would rather take that money and buy something I could see or use than stick it into a machine.
My mother in law on the other hand is a lot like your friend. Her and my father in law will go gambling hours and states away for a couple of days (compt by the casinos). She'll sit at the machines until everything is gone. We went with them once...we were starving and had to wait until her was down to nothing on that machine to go and eat - several times. Though they do win a lot and come home with money I guess it's mostly from her hubby who will pull out and watch her when he gets bored of doing it himself.

The only " Smart Gambling" is not gambling at all. The only way to really make money gambling is owning a casino.I never got the joy from gambling others do. I rather keep my money and watch a movie at home. But if they are having fun and they are not losing too much money, I guess it is okay, but I won't do it.

I'm not an addict but if I gamble, I will choose slots over lotto. I think that's where my luck lies. I won more in slots than lotto. I played lotto for about 6 months or so and only won $ 30 or so if I remember correctly. I won more playing slots in one day. So I guess if I ever try my luck again, I'll go to casino instead

I haven't gambled in some time. The last time I did was at Harrah's Casino in New Orleans before the hurricane. I wasn't really all that interested in gambling, we just passed some time at the tables or at the machines. When we got bored, we would leave. My father is a gambling addict. There is a local dog track in his area and he used to go there frequently. He ended up owing the IRS several thousand dollars because of the winnings he made and didn't file on them. He has always had a gambling problem for as long as I know. He refuses to acknowledge it, but because of my mother he hasn't really gambled since. I can't say that for sure, but as far as I know he hasn't. I do have my feeling that he does still gamble whenever he gets the chance. I hope for my mother's sake he is being honest. He will never join a group like that even after my family and I have urged him strongly to do so.

No, I dont gamble anymore, but I was gambling before and was heavily addicted. Lotto I do not consider a gamble however.
I did do some heavy things though, like spendidng all the money that were on the credit cards and that we couldnt pay back as we had no cash, still I spent over 5K in one night of madness online, a casino...you have no idea how guilty I felt and how bad I felt in the months after this deed.
We did manage to cover the expense due to my mother that gave me the cash, and I was able to stop gambling without any counseling, thanks God for that :)

I do buy my lottery tickets and have hit a couple $500. ones on scratch offs. Have hit $100 and $50. a couple of times.
I used to play slots on line and actually hit a jackpot for over $4000. But now my state has outlawed it and it is a felony if you get caught. Most online casinos have now refused USA players because of all the laws that were scimmed through in that homeland security bill. Since most on line casinos are off shore ( based in other contries) and the government can't get any taxes from your winnings they made it a crime to pop $10.00 in one and sit in your own home to play.
I think the real deal here is to force people go to casinos here in the US because people are going to spend a lot more than $10. and it you are lucky enough to win anything big the government gets their cut of it in taxes.
I think the lobbiests for these big casinos got their way.

i don't like to gamble at all... i don't want to spend my hard-earned money just like that... i prefer to use it for something more useful and i want to earn money in a decent way... so i normally don't go to the casino to resist the temptation and i don't gamble at all...

My sister's friend gambles, mostly slots. She does it enough that we had a free room in Atlantic City when we needed it in June & I even played the penny slots on her 20 bucks until it was gone.
But by the time she left, the day after we left, she won all the money she lost & my sister & I lost back. And came up with more points for her next casino visit.

I am known to be a gambler in life but not at casinos. lol. Casino and lottery gambling is out for me as I believe it is all luck's play as the probability of winning is rather low even if one does great analysis and professes to be an expert in any of the games. I just cannot part with money to have a lucky strike. Occasionally when I feel philanthropic, I do have a game or two.

No, I only gamble in the Lottery and then it is only a small amount - Here in the UK the lottery does support many organisations. I discovered that they funded the heart rehab. scheme in our local hospital. As for other types of gambling, I have watched some of my family and friends facing financial hardship because of it. And it was my dad, who was a gambler himself, who constantly told me never to get involved because the only winners are the bookies. :-)

Yes, I gamble online and off. I do consider the lottery gambling, I buy one $1 per week. Any wins go into the bank for that. When I gamble on cards (my favorite), I take in a set amount. Any win gets divided by 3. I can gamble with 1/3 of that, the rest comes home. Once I lose the initial amount (and the 1/3 if I have it), I quit. I will also usually quit after 30 minutes of bum luck. Better to quit and come back another day than to chase a losing streak. I will occasionally bet on ballgames, but prefer a blank block buy than a prediction bet, as I know little about the games and nothing about the teams. I sometimes get a tip from my brother, an avid ball fan, and will sometimes put down a couple of bucks on his prediction. The ballgames are usually bets in pools at work or with friends, I have not yet bet in sportsbook type arena. Since I think of any money I take to gamble as already lost, I rarely lose much cause I don't take in much. Perhaps the biggest was years ago at Vegas, I lost $200 in a week overall. But I had won the trip and the $200 was spending money included in the prize. No, no support group for me, if I am behind much over a few months period, I will just quit altogether for a while. The secret you mention is true, luck is like the tides, it comes in for a while then goes out for a while. That's why I have my 30 minute rule. Even when playing online tourneys, if my luck runs cold for a while, I will sit out, only play my blinds with no extra bet unless I hit a good hand. I watch the cards to see when my luck is turning, soon I will be regretting folding what would have been a winning hand. Once 4 or 5 of these come by I will get back into the game. Online, I tend to play at sites where you can play for free to win real cash prizes, on the one where I actually deposit money, I play the cheap seats, 2 cent bets or so. I can play for quite a while with $5. I have been at that site for three months, still playing on my original $25 deposit (the minimum) and still have about $39 in account. The same rules go for my winnings on that. I keep winnings in my account until they add up to a payout level.
