Has this happened to you?

Say you make a discussion on a topic and a few people respond to it and stuff, then you notice that one of the people who responded to your post made a discussion on the exact same thing with no other twist or anything about a couple hours after responding to yours. I mean I understand if you didn't know about the other discussion and made the discussion. I also understand if you put a different twist on it or put your own personal situation in it or something, but I mean almost word for word the same post. They know yours is there because they responded to it before they made theirs. I felt kinda ripped off in a sense. Am I being silly? Has this happened to you? How would you feel?

No your right for feeling this way.I noticed 2 people who always respond to mine are always doing it shortly after to me.They word some words differently,but it the same.I do feel ripped off,but learnt to ignore it because it seemed that they couldnt find something to discuss and decided to reep on me,hehe.Im careful of them now.Its like 5 minutes after responding to mine that they post their own little "twin"and i dont respond.Its friends(so called)hehe:{

Yeah Transdisc said this is against the rules and your right the words are a little different. I usually add my own personal stuff or opinion in my discussion but everything else was there. Nope I will not be responding to this person's topics any more. Nice friends Huh?

As far as I know it has never happened to me. I know I have seen several times what seems like the exact same post within hours of each other before though. That stinks that they did that.

Thanks lilybug. I wouldn't have really noticed it but I thought I would check out the profile and maybe respond to one of his cause he responded to me. I am having a hard time with the "posts my friends made" section. Then I saw it there. Checked the times and then knew I was first and he responded first then made his a couple hours later. Blows

That happened to me several months ago. Go ahead and report it, telling mylot what you just told us. It's in the guidelines not to copy similar discussions or to look for similar discussions and not repeat them if a person sees them.

Yeah I did. It is rude to do. I don't post tons of topics only because I actually try to come up with something that is happening with my life and stuff. Not just copying other people's post. Thanks

I don't know if this has happened to me or not, because I don't usually check the posts the person makes after responding to my discussions. But that's not a good situation, the person "stealing" your ideas. But did he/she just used yours as an inspiration for a different post or copied everything? I don't think you're being silly, I would feel the same way if somebody had stolen my "work". Oh, I have a question to you: since you're a 10, can you copy and paste?

Once you get to 500 posts you can copy and paste. As for his discussion it was about the same thing and asked the same question. It wasn't copy and paste but very very close. My personal feelings weren't in it. Thanks for your feelings on this. Vicki

Hi vicki, I have had this happen a few times and frusterating is not the word! Wow! It gets me upset lol. I once did a discussion and the next day another person had the EXACT same title, the EXACT same photo with it, BUT the only difference was her child was 2 years old and mine was only 15 months at the time! OoOoOoO big difference lol. Thanks for letting me vent and sorry that you got ripped off too! Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear!

I know!! When I saw that I was SOOOOOOOOOO mad! I actually went to the discussion and said something like "Oh how cute, same pic, same discussion, real original *rolls eyes* " and then I reported it and got it deleted. I know that may have been harsh but I was MAD and not really thinking all that clearly at the time. I actually felt kind of guilty after, but then thought they had no shame in ripping me off, so why should I have shame in busting them. PurpleTeddyBear!

That make sense. Many people wants to post as many as they can. When he/she running out of idea, then stealing/twisting other's idea is one way to make him/her keep contributing so that his/her cents keeps growing.

Yeah not nice, I actually go around and think of things all day and say hey that would be cool to talk about and stuff, half of it I forget and think I should have a notepad. So when I finally get one on here I don't like to have someone else rip it. Thanks

You are not being silly and you should report them. This is cheatiing and If you don't report them someone might repport you as ciopying them and your discussion could be delteted. Go to the ! and a box will appear and just say that this person coppied you discussion. Do it as soon as you se something like that so people will not be able to respond to them then loose their pionts and earnings. It's the right thing to do.

I don't really understand the rules, since every time I look up a subject I see a lot of repeated subjects. So I try my best to start very unique subjects, and I think I succeed in that regard. Unfortunately I hardly get ANY responses ... Now I have a doozy for you. Way back when I was a new member I replied to a discussion (sorry, I don't remember the topic) and supplied a link to the web page where I got the information. I always check the discussions I respond to the next day to see any reaction. The VERY NEXT POST was the pasted article of the link that I sent previously! And the discussion starter PRAISED that poster for giving so much information ... and not a word was on my response. Since then I tried to type as much as I can (I still have less than the required 500 posts.) But I hear myLot does not like direct quotes like that, at least without attributing the quote to the source.

Sorry to hear that happen to you. You took the time out to find the link and everything and you were before the other person. Guess they were friendly to each other or something. I know their are similar posts here, but this was about something that happened this exact day and I searched before I did it to see if their was one already, none, then did mine, and a couple hours after this person posted on mine he did his. If it was someone else who didn't search to see if there were other discussions on this I would understand, but since he responded to mine he knew of my discussion. Thanks Qaeyious

Yeah, I notice similar topics here in mylot. This is really something for the admin to act on. Other members will just modify the question, adding something to it but the thought are all the same. It's unfair you know. I hope mylot will do something about this and this problem has been around for a long time.

know what you mean and yes I had that same thing happen to me. I search every posible word in my discussions to see if its a double and one time I did that and opened a new discussion and not 1 but 2 people opened their own discussion exacly the same as mine (the both replyied to mine) one changed the title a bit but the idea was the same the other one changed only 1 word.

No, it never happened to me. And I think it's horrible thing to do because it only proves the sole reason for this user is to make here money:/ I don't like it and even more, I despise this kind of attitude. I only start a discussion when I find an interesting topic myself. Well, it's true that reading some posts gives me an inspiration but I never rip off someones thoughts:/

I haven't ever noticed that happening to my posts. But yes, I would feel a bit ripped off if I did see that happen. Instead of putting thought and effort into a post, they just knock off someone else's work. Pesonally, I'm here to share ideas and chat with other people - not try to get as many posts as possible.

You are not being silly as this is plagarism and is against the rules of mylot. If you witness this again you should report it to support, that way the duplicate thread will be removed and the person's rating will go down. If they do this enough to the individual, they will either get the point, or be banned from mylot.

such a thing never happened with me till date, but someone stealing your ideas is really bad.i don't understand why people do this but what they do should be offensive.it feels bad when someone responds to your discussion and then makes a new discussion on the same thing, exactly the same.you are not acting silly instead this is an important news that you have highlighted because no on normally notices these things....

Actually it has never happened to me but has happened to one of my friend's discussion.I saw that three of the responses of his discussions, however, were not exactly the same, but with the same situation and making the same sense.I wonder if people do not know how to write or have no creativity then why do they come to this site?
