with my short experiance with vista i dont find it very friendly, may be it will be ok once i get used to it. i have only 512 mb of ram in my system and thats one reason i might have found it a bit slow. I'll start using vista only after few more months and by that time i hope the performance would have got more stablilized probably with micosoft fixing few buggs!

you are right! i had 512 mb ram initially and then had to upgrade to 1.5 gb as it was turning out to be too slow. Its smooth now. Also i guess the service pack 1 scheduled for first quarter next year should definately be helpful in fixing lots of potential bugs!!!

Surajpkn, the speed always depends on the PC and not on the Operating System. We'll get used to it the same way we get used to Windows XP.

As I had tried it, I think I better to stick for XP for now. Because my personal thought on VISTA version is not so friendly to me but not for it slow or fast responding feature. Faster of slower it solely depend to many factors, especially for your computer's memory storage and CPU speed rating value.

lots of people told me that they hate vista when i was buying my laptop. i told them that the laptop was going to come with windows vista. they all tried to talk me out of getting the laptop and gave a million reasons why i shouldn't use vista. i later found out that these people had never even used vista. they had just been going on rumors they heard. I am glad i have vista. it is set up way better than windows xp and i find it runs at least twice as fast as windows xp.

I don't think that Vista is slow, its just that most computers on the market aren't really designed to run it well right out of the box. Vista is pretty resource heavy compared to Windows XP and computer manufacturers aren't modifying their products to match the new OS. Most of the computers at stores like Best Buy are basically the same models being sold before Vista's release. Now they just have Vista on them. To get the best Vista experience, you need a true Vista-capable computer, not an XP-capable one that can run Vista. Sice the OS is just a few months old, it will take some time before Vista-built computers become mainstream. It might also take some price drops of components like RAM and processors for companies to make these computers affordable to the everyday consumer.

Windows Vista is notorious for requiring a high end computer system to run at capacity. If you load the operating system onto a system that is slower you will suffer serious lag. Vista is a system that seems to appeal to some gamers. If you want just a basic computer to run your office on, Vista tends to not be the operating system for you. You would probably be better off staying with Windows XP which offers the basics to get you going.

Personally, I would not let Vista touch one of my computers until all the bugs are worked out. That is several years away if ever. For now, I get what I want from a double operating system of Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu Edgy. I'm not willing to toss thousands of bucks into my system for bling.

Another thing I don't like about Vista is that it's loaded down to the hairline with DRM. DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It fowls up your fancy computer's playing of your fancy media.

No, I think it will defend in the configuration of your PC. Some PC have a good configuration that exact to the need of the Windows Vista Operating System. If your system is not yet a 64 bit configuration, just better use the Windows Vista 32 bit if you don't want to encounter a little bit slow of Vista.

vista will seem like its running "slow" if your running 512mb or less. There are ways you can do to speed up basic performance, like turning all of the flashy things that make the screen look pretty such as the aero effect.
