I usually run 2 browsers, IE and Mozilla Firefox. Yesterday I tried to sign in to my hotmail account to get to my email alerts and I couldn't, I got a message saying I wasn't connected to the internet or the site was having problems. When I try to open IE, it opens in Mozilla. My granddaughter has been using the computer and on the sign in page, she's changed my username. I can open messenger okay, but not get into my hotmail account. So I know the site is working and I'm obviously connected to the net but I just can't figure things out. Some help would be appreciated.....please don't respond with "I don't know so I can't help you" Thanks in advance and happy posting.

Well for one, I wouldn't use IE if Gates paid me to do so (unless it was a high amount, even then, not on my own computers, no way.) Try clearing out your cookies on both if you can spare it, then try logging in. That may help you. You may also have to restart your computer to clear things out and then try to log in. Also it seems like someone used Mozilla and it prompted the ever so famous question "Do you want to make this the default browser?". Either you or your granddaughter hit yes. Thats why any shortcuts you have to the net and websites will now be opened by Mozilla and not IE.

This sounds good, I'll try clearing cookies...given that she hit the "yes" prompt - how do I reverse it. Thanks

But IE opens in Mozilla...it's so weird. I'll try your suggestion in the morning when I'm back on my desktop. I so appreciate the time youre taking with this. I'm doing this on my laptop and as you can see I'm able to access my email alerts from hotmail.

Interesting. This will definitely need more research to it.

I had some problems with opening my Hotmail a short time ago. I had to go to messenger first and open it from there.

Hi Sarina - I tried to do that but couldn't find how to do it. Now, I don't even have the Messenger icon in my tray.

looks like you will have to change your user name back to what it was.

That's the strange part, my messenger still has my user name, which is my email address, but it keeps telling me that I'm not connected to the web or that the site is having problems. But I am connected and the site is working otherwise. It's only doing that when I try to sign in. Even when I try to sign in under what my granddaughter put in an effort to get to the next page, it takes me to that same page. I'm hoping when I swith to my laptop that all will be ok cos I was using my hotmail on the laptop a couple of days ago. It just seems strange that she would change anything...but the evidence is right in front of me. Grrr.

Hi Ms Tickle it may not be anything to do with your computer or settings it sounds like it could well be that hotmail is having problems or doing something on there server i would leave it a while and see if it is still doing it then. The fact that your on the internet and loading msn says to me that it is there end not yours, ive had problems like that in the past it is very thrustrating but give it time and it should eventually allow you to view your alerts.

Yeah, that's what I thought at first but it's working on my laptop. Frustrating is right. I wasted a lot of time this morning trying to figure it out. Thanks mate.

Try Clearing you Cache and cookies: for IE just look for tools and go to internet options. Then clear cache and temporary internet files. For Mozilla look for tools and look for clear private data. just check the cookies and temporary internet files. Then close and open you browser then try signing in again.
