I'm 37 and I just started to blog this june. I surf the net almost everyday and everything is new and interesting to me. I'm so curious about html, css, templates etc.. And suddenly my husband said that I'm to old to learn new things especially those complicated html. He said that my brain is too old to absord new things for the younger generation.

You know the old saying?! You're never too old to learn! Recently in one of our newspapers a woman over 80 just got her degree from uni! I'm sure she would be saying you can learn anything if you put your mind to it, and I have to agree!

I think if it's something you really want to learn, you can. Besides, learning new stuff is like exercise for the mind!

I'm sorry. I think that was very rude and unsupportive of your husband. I'm a year older than you. I'm starting a business that involves the internet. And I'm learning a lot of complicated stuff to make it work out. HTML isn't hard or complicated unless you wanted to be. My personal opinion is that you should continue to study what you wish and fill your life with learning.

Hi miscat, actually I kinda know what he meant. I've never been to college and I'm a slow learner. He doesn't want me to be too hard on myself.

I started blogging when I was 38 so no, your not too old to learn. In the past year, I have learned a lot about blogging and actually now have SIX on the go. So, no one is ever to old to learn all about the ins and outs of blogging.

Your never to old to learn anything new. Although it might be easier to the newer generation to understand how all that works doesn't mean you can't learn you just might be a little slower. We all learn things as we go in life and I don't think that there's any point in which we stop learning. HTML and all of that can be complicated when you first start but like anything it will only get easier as time go's on and you get better at using them. Anyways good luck to you and congrats on trying to learn something new that will benefit you in the future.

Your husband expressed his opinion. Opinions are not fact. HTML is pretty darn easy to learn, hard to get good enough to be great at. For blogging and such it's not necessary though. You can get a blog up and running through a number of free platforms. You can then start to get into the game of blogging and learn deeper facets as you go along.

I absolutely dont agree with what your husband has told you. Its a global fact that we human beings keep learning till the end of our lives no matter what our age is. You tell me a simple question. As a female, you would be taking care of cooking at your home. Dont you ever learn and try some new dishes ? If that is possible why not html ? and by the way HTML and CSS is not very difficult. You can start designing your own pages within couple of days.

Tell your husband to go soak his head. Does he really think you're too old or is he trying to discourage you from learning something that he doesn't know anything about? Or maybe that will take time away from things he thinks are more important? I'm almost 70. I've been online for ten years or so, and I'm still learning. I blog, and now I'm developing a web site. Learn whatever you want to learn. It might change your life.

Nonsense! Nobody is ever to old to learn something. If you enjoy it and are curious about it, go for it. Only when you try can you get an idea if it is complicated for you or not, and even so, that doesn't mean you can't learn it. THe brain can always absorb new things. Some we have more aptitude than others but that has nothing to do with age.

Hi there. I dont think anyones too old to learn anything, I think if you have the will power you can do anything... My moms 54 years old and she has learnt to use html, templates and excel programs and so on, because she wanted to learn... It would help if you had the support of your husband, instead of being told your too old... If I were you I wouldnt listen to that nonsense and go and learn new things...

Hi Lynnchua, as you would already know, one is never too old to learn. My mother is a good example. Would not like to say much but after reading your post, decided to put up a simple tutorial for you to learn the basics of HTML programming (it's not exactly a programming language but a markup language but we can refer to it as that.) Here's the link: http://www.freewebs.com/joshua-w/htmltutorial/index.htm Hope you'll find it useful.

Hi again, Lynnchua. Netscape is a web browser used to surf the World Wide Web. The most popular one is of course Internet Explorer. Others includes the excellent Firefox and Opera. The one i'm using is Apple's 'Safari'. Netscape Navigator used to be the first popular and widely used browser in the 80's and early 90's, but now hardly anyone uses it. Don't worry too much about it. Just read through the tutorial and learn the basic HTML syntax in it. These are the absolute basic and after that you'll start to get the hang of it :) Post again if you still have any queries and i'll try to answer them when i'm free ok. Good luck.

hi friend, its nature of human beuing that ehenever he/she saw anythinh want to explore it and this nature of human being is signifying him over other species of world and resulting i all these new inventions and development so its good thing and keep on doing it, as far memory is concern, its not related to age, sure u feel loss of memory but its after 60-70. 37 is not that age, its just that some have good memory and some dont, so best solution to that is that whatever u like or understand, just write it down, it will not be your easy refernce for future but will help to memorise u as well so give it a try and hope it will be good. take care

Nop, there are no age limit or age requirement to learn new things. In fact, our everyday life is a continuous learning. Plus if you are really interested then you will do good in your chosen field of study. HTML,CSS or template is not that complicated, you can always get an online tutorials and its free..just be resourceful and you will get what you want to achieve.

Not at all! Being said, its more difficult to learn at an older age because the brain works differently. However, you still can learn. My grandparents started using the internet at ages 65 and 67! They now send emails all the time. The do attachements, make cards, and even house hunt by internet.

No one is too old to learn new things. HTML is so easy to learn, even highschool students can learn them,as if they are only playing. I've learn it all by meself, just by reading books and putting it to practice.

Hi. I don't think you're already old to learn all this stuff. Actually, that the most interesting part of your life is learning things you missed during early days. But there must be a little disadvantage because we become more forgetful to the things we should do next or what i did earlier. But anyway, it does'nt matter. If you really love to explore those things, go on with gusto. Because in that way, you will satisfy your passionate being in the outside world. Good luck and happy exploring the world of information technology.
