I personally am definitely better off - I have met many wonderful people over the internet who have become friends in 'real life' too, and I have been to so many events that I would never have known about without the internet. My only problem is that sometimes I spend too much time on the internet and not on my work!!

I think that we are a better society with the internet, trough internet we can do a lot of things in a faster way.For example e-mails now it takes a few seconds to receive or send and it cost nothing.

I think society as a whole is better off with the internet. Instant retrieval of information, maps, directories, train, bus and airport information. There is however a dark side to the internet. It is wide open for predators and evil people to ply their trade.
I also think the internet deepens the divide between the haves and the have nots. In all societies it also creates an underbelly for uneducated people who cannot or will not acquire the skills to take advantage of this tool.
In or generation it also leaves behind a lot of old people who are no longer able to grasp this. This will however dissapear as the young ones now grow up with the internet and will retain those skills and knowledge into old age.

I think generally we are worse off.
Yes, there are benefits, like quick information sharing and being able to connect with communities all over the world (assuming their governments don't block information)
BUt like the television, it is just one more thing that makes people sit on their fat arses and do nothing productive. It's why we are getting fat. It's why we are letting big business take over. It's why people don't know how to raise their own food anymore. It creates complacency and laziness. it's the assumption that a job is right at your fingertips (getting paid pennies an hour is not a job) it's the assumption that the info you read is CORRECT. It's awful.
That being said, I am outta here. I have to go feed my sheep and water my garden!

Sure, we are better off with the internet. I am infact so much adicted to it that I just run to my computer as soon as I get time and start working on the net.
The best thing I like with internet is that we can discuss so many things on places like mylot. There are other forums on which you can express whatever you feel like. You can ask questions on various subjects with any hesitation because your identity is not known to others. For exchange of views, I think that internet is blessings.

hi bgerig!
as with anything in this world, internet is amoral. however, when paired with our motives, they can become good or evil.
with the information that the internet offers, i think it is a good thing. however, because unscrupulous people have been given free access to a versatile media, evil has also proliferated.
so we decide, we can use the internet for both good and evil purposes. the freedom is in our hands.

Personally, I think we are better off. The internet can be a great learning tool. It's my form of entertainment when I'm home along with crafts and some painting.

I think we are better. Of course that means only as far as it is frequently a way to keep up with friends or family. Plus there is a wealth of information to find on the net. But we have to remember to reseach carefully on subjects and look a reliable sites. I like to write so I have my blog and my dogs' blog which I ghost write.

hi bgerig! i think the internet is a very good tool for all of us. There are a lot of good and advantages with this technology, it is just that we as people should be more responsible in trying to use it for the good and betterment of each one of us. Because we know that some people use it for improper behavior or for ugly things. As for me, the good things that the internet has been providing us outweighs the bad. So, I guess I am not better off without the internet. Take care and have a nice day.

for one, internet brought down the high cost of telecommunication. Used to be if we want to talk to our love ones overseas we have to spend a lot of money just to talk to them for a few minutes. Now we can talk to them cheaper and longer via netphone or send emails and IM and even see each other onlines thru webcam immediately and get response as soon as possible.
i guess it had made overseas communication better and cheaper to alot of people worldwide but then some are isolating themselves by putting more time with the computer rather than spending more intimate time with people.
I guess we have to decide for ourselves how much we use the computer and also have to spend real quality time with family and friends and not rely on virtual contact alone.

Well I guess internet has a positive effect on us. We do things now more easily like sending mails... talking online with the people we love, meeting new friends, getting information almost on anything. Though pretty sure there would be some disadvantages for having internet. I believe that we would loose more if we dont have it.

It is, like all technology, a 2 headed blessing.
It means more people that ever before are sitting around messing with this instead of getting out & doing things or reading a book.
Like the invention of the phonograph back at the turn of the LAST centrey, rather inhibited people learning musical instraments to entertain themselves, and radio then television has caused fewer people to read books than before, so has the internet got people reading more, but maybe not things worth while.

For the most part, I think we're better off. The amount of information now available is incredible and for the most part, used for the benefit of individuals as well as groups. I also think it has brought more people together than any other medium in the past. Yes, many do not go out and see people in person because of this internet, but I can say for myself it has helped me meet more people of all kinds than any and all of the going "out-ing" I have ever done. The biggest drawback I see is the lack of doing anything physical anymore. As I sit here eager to communicate with new friends I realize that I am gaining more pounds and doing absolutely nothing beneficial for my physical health. Obviously a balance needs to be maintained, but I'll be the first to admit it's not high on my priority list. I know - it's sad. :)
