Writing fears..

I am writing a book. Actually I have two children's stories and one suspense in the works. My fear; that all will be rejected, after all my time and effort. That perhaps this is a huge waste of time? Are there any other aspiring writers out there that share my fear? I did submit three chapters of one of my children's books and was told that although that particular publishing house could not use it, they believed I had a feel for writing. Even so, I fear I may be wasting my time. Any comments, advice or HELP?

I am not a writer but enjoy discussions on MyLot. If you think your material is good and will appeal to the public, continue and possibly contact another publishing house. Please don't give up after the amount of time and energy you've invested. Book writing takes alot of confidence and persistence. Good luck, carolbee

We never will know if we never try, right? So since you've already started writing your book, you've already gone a very long way and nothing should stop you from doing waht yu want, especially fear. I think I read somewhere that JK Rowling's Harry Potter wasn't accepted right away by some publishers--but look at the Harry Potter series now! It just takes courage and a huge leap of faith--just a tip--don't try to think right away that your book might be rejected since you are attracting negative things, rather do the opposite & bravo to everybody who has encouraged you! I myself am held back by things because of fear of failure, but we never know till we try, right? Btw, you might be interested with POD or print-on-demand publishing---I stumbled upon this site here in mylot and a lot of people are using it to get published--and you can even do so without costing much or even for free! Check out www.lulu.com so you can see for yourself! Good luck & enjoy your day caroliewriters =)!

My advice is keep writing; and write for you. There are so many opinions out there. Sooner or later you could find someone who will love your work; and that person may be influential! The important thing is that you are enjoying the process of creation; it is never a waste of time in my view. The more you write, the better you will get. There are good writing sites/blogs online for you to publish your work; and to receive criticism. My advice is: Don't be hurt by negative criticism; it is just one opinion. Enjoy it all...and good luck!

Thank you for your encouragement Carl. You know, this is crazy to admit but here it goes; I've recieved so much positive feedback on my children's book, and that was great. I sent it in to a publisher, she 'said' she liked it, but could not use it. I stopped writing for awhile. (dumb? yep) I also have a suspense in the works. Again lots of positive feedback. However, ONE,...just one..told me to change much of the story, and told me she didn't think it would sell, etc. etc. So, rather than listen to all of the positive feedback, I took the one negative and ran with it. Am I a wus or what? lol Not anymore!! Again, thanks for your encouragement.

You have a fear and nervousness, but remember to have courage. Remember to continue despite what could or could not happen. If you really want this, you must make your drive exceed your fear, confusion, nervousness and doubt. Also, practice out your writing. You've got plenty of guinea pigs to test on here.

Fear keeps you from trying, and then you fail for sure! Much better to take the chance! If it doesn't work for you right away, you can work on your projects a bit then submit again... you may find the right place, you may not... some time is all you'll be wasting, nothing else will be sacrificed. Imagine being 95 years old... and how you'll feel about your life if you dont TRY!

There have been so many famous writers who were turned away a few for example are Robert Frost, Beautrix Potter, Emily Dickenson. Don't give up, some publishers look for different things. I doubt I will ever have anything published but if what you write makes you happy keep doing it. Let family and friends read what you have written if it makes one person happy you have done your job. But never give up. Some one out there is waiting for your story. Good luck.

lack of self-confidence in your work...you should not specially when it is what you want to do...being rejected is normal for every writers coz you cant please everybody, and those others that you cant please will be the one to reject your work..it will not a waste of time if you're enjoy doing it, if you're satisfied with it...dont think of rejection coz it may cause you trouble in yourself...
