I know people who call it pop, but in my family we just refer to it as coke or soft drink. Isn't it funny how we all have different names for the same drink?

It is pretty interesting, and apparently people will really get into heated debates over this!

Lol, this is really funny to me. I was a waitress for like 10 years, and we all call all sodas coke here. btw here is southcentral texas. anyways, I could always tell when someone was from up nort because when they would ask for a coke and I would ask them what kind they would give me a funny look and say a coke. Thats because Dr pepper company is really big down here and not even available in the north, so ppl here will ask for a coke and then want a dr pepper and people from the north think that dr pepper and mr pibb taste the same... but thats a diffrent topic. I think ill go start that one now, thank you!

I live in the North and we have Dr. Pepper, but yes I agree, everyone thinks Dr. pepper & Mr. Pibb are the same in taste. So what happens if someone wants a Coca-Cola, what is that called? A regular coke?

I have always called it pop ever since I was little. My husband is from different area though, and he always calls it soda. I used to laugh about that, but now lately I've started saying soda too sometimes cause of hearing him say it so much!

The same thing happened to me! My boyfriend calls it soda, although I don't know why, since it's referred to as pop here, but he started saying it, it stuck, and now I say soda sometimes.

I'm in Massachusetts, up until the last 10 years or so most people called it "tonic". Some older people still do, but it seems most people call it soda now.

What I don't get is the people who call any pop "coke"... What is a Sprite then, is it still as Sprite or is it like a lemon coke?

Pop, Pepsi or Coca are only a brand name. But that three is a cola drink. And they generally called it a beverage or soft drinks. My favorite is Coke because I love the taste of it rather than the other.
