I went to pick up my grandson at school. When I got to my vehicle I noticed something moving in the car next to me... there was a baby in a car seat, alone......He was about 6 to 8 months and was in a rear facing seat......I was mad...another women was coming to get in her vehicle and I told her and she was just as angry as I was...
My husband didn't realize she left him there due to the way he was parked...I wanted to confront the women when she came out but didn't....So I waited...I wasn't leaving until I knew what was going on..
I wrote down her license number and car model..I reported it to the Principal of the school, and then went to the police station to report the incident...She put the little girl that she picked up from school in the backseat, but not in a car seat...The law here goes by age..The child has to be in a car seat even at the age of 8...
The car was parked across the street about 150 feet from the school entrance...
My husband said she seemed to be in a hurry. But he hadn't realized she left the baby.....
I wanted to confront her but thought it best not too!. The police officer agreed that I did the right thing...
I just don't understand what it takes for these people to get the fact that, "YOU NEVER LEAVE A CHILD UNATTENDED IN A VEHICLE EVER...."

Definitely would have called the cops immediately. Luckily I've not seen it upclose and personal but there have been events in the immediate area. Its unbelieveable.

I don't know what the officer is going to do...I think he may go to the school on Monday and watch for her vehicle and see what takes place..

I am glad that you thought better than to confront this woman. You did the right thing in reporting the incident to the authorities. I hope that she gets fined severely and has to do some sort of community service. This would be a small price to pay for her negligence. But, maybe she would think twice before leaving her baby alone in a car and not securing her other child in a proper car seat.

I didn't want to get into a shouting match and have the cops called on me...Other than my husband and grandson who is 5, there was another lady that witnessed it also. I called her over and told her...We both stood there until she returned...

She seemed to be in a rush according to my husband... There was no reason not to take that baby in with her...

I would have called the police right away, given them her license number, etc. and then went to see the principal. If I were that woman, I would have picked up the baby and gone into the school. There are crazies out there, and what if suddenly there was a heat wave and the windows were closed?

You did the right thing hon. Whether you called the police later or first, the most important thing is that you got the plate number off the car before it left, just in case. I honestly can't understand how parents can forget their babies in the car. There have been a number of news reports of it happening around here lately too. I think parents need to wise up and slow down so that this doesn't happen anymore.

i totally agree,at least you did it regardless of when you did it,some people would of just taken off and pretended that nothing happened because they are inpatient, but you did right hon,and dont let anyone say that you did wrong or put you down.i know the heart you have and i would never doubt you my dear friend.it's true though parents do need to wise up some or they wont have their children, because it only takes seconds for something to happen to them.hope all is well, love ya.pattie hi katlady; how are you?

Across the street yet, not even on school property??? Not that that makes a big difference but 150 feet from the school entrance and across the street is a little bit worse than right in front of the door. You said it all..."YOU NEVER LEAVE A CHILD UNATTENDED IN A VEHICLE EVER...." If I'd have seen that and had been by myself I probably would have confronted her got "gotten my snoot punched" as my hubby's always warning me when I stick it in when I see things like that. I'm so glad you reported it; we could easily be reading about yet another missing or murdered child right now.

She could have parked right by the front entrance, taken the baby out and gone into the school...No reason to park so far away and then leave the baby...Very stupid...

I know what you mean, that sort of thing gets to me too. Around here, though, it seems almost common place. Sure, were a small community, and I guess a lot of peoples attitude is that we look out for each other....! Until we recently got a new policeman in the town, it was all to common to see people driving around with unrestrained kids in the car, or worse, on their lap!!!
Truthfully, I'd never leave an animal in the car unattended, and definitely not a child, no matter what length of time!

I could have walked away but I didn't....If something would have happened to the baby I would have felt responsible...A lot of people don't want to get involved...I am one that does want to get involved...It is my responsibility...

I've read an article similar to that incidence. One time, a mother, just from the school to fetch her two sons, went to the laundromat to get her clothes. She left the two boys in the car. When she looked back, the car is moving backwards to the busy street, with many vehicles moving fast. It's a good thing that no vehicle bumped with her car. Parents and all those who handle kids should be extra careful not to leave their kids unattended. You can't tell when the worse could happen.

some people are just so stupid. anything could have happened to that baby. you hear of stories of people leaving their kids in the car for one second and the car being stolen by someone else with the kids still in the car. you would think people would wake up and realize that all it takes is a second and you could loose that child forever. i don't even leave my kids in the car to pump gas. they get out when i do period

That is so sad! I feel sorry for the children and cannot believe some parents today. It's like they are in to much of hurry even for their children. it absolutely amazes me and astounds me.

I get so pissed when I see that happening and I report it every time. I also can't stand it when I see a baby not in a car seat or not in one properly. I have seen mothers driving while holding an infant....what does she think is going to happen if she is in a wreck? AAAAAUUUURRRRRGGGG it makes me want to scream!!!! Here they have a booster seat law that requires a booster till 4 foot something.

Hello Feona1962,
It is very hard to teach people the proper way. Some just won't learn their lesson until something bad happened to them. It is the same here. So many cases where a car thief drove away with the kids inside the car and yet, people still don't learn from that. Some still leave their kids in the car unattended. There was one case, where a mother came out from the car to make a phone call at the nearest phone booth and left her four years old daughter in the car, with the engine on. A stranger came towards her car and drove the car away; with the kid inside the car, yelling and crying for her mother. She was lucky that the car thief left her daughter some where and the police managed to locate her safely after a few hours.
