It seems that I'm always getting hang nails and their a pain in the butt. I've tried wearing rubber gloves when I wash dishes and that doesn't help and then I found out that one of the best things for nails is water so I stopped doing that! When I do a lot of housework I've noticed that I get them even more.
When I'm curious about something I always research it on the net and I found a great site with a lot of information so if you are interested check it out...

Are hang nails something you get often? Do you get rid of them with a nail clipper or do you have another method?

I get them all the time. I just cut them and add a little vaseline and bandage them up and they don't hurt anymore.I always thought that I get them because I don't pamper my cuticles.

I don't think it has a lot to do with taking care of our cuticles. I'm usually very good at that and I still get them.

I get hang nails all of the time, but not as much as I use to. I use hand lotion, applying it probably about every hour or hour and 1/2 while I am awake.
I also clip off the skin..that seems to help with the healing.

That's something I always try to do but keep forgetting...applying lotion often. I usually do it only after a shower and before going to bed but I definitely need to do it more often.

I frequently get hangnails, ctry, and I will usually clip them off or use a little devise I bought made especially for that purpose. I find that when I keep my hands smooth and use lotion often I don't get nearly as many. I have many issues with my hands, including eczema that sometimes breaks out mainly on one hand.

I'm lucky enough not to have the exzema problem. I do try to put lotion on my hands often but even that doesn't seem to help.

You have that right. If you bang that finger it hurts like nothing else.

Most women who clean get hangnails - the harsh cleaners, and prolonged time in water really aggravates the skin.
1] the best way I have found to prevent hangnails is - apply a very rich moisturizer like Aquaphor to your nail beds every night before bed, and rub in well.
2] keep cuticles groomed - use cuticle remover once a week.
3] if you do get a hangnail, treat it as a small wound [ especially now, with all the MRSA going atround ]. Apply an antibiotic ointment, and a bandage.
Don't use nail clippers, unless there is a long piece of deadskin - you should nevercut the living cuticle.

I don't get into bandaging it but I do clip it off and apply an Antibiotic cream so it won't get infected.
