i was unaware that we would be preached to here with quotes from the bible. nothing wrong with believing by all means. but what would be the point in starting a bunch of discussions that the only thing is says it two lines from a bible verse? anyone else think this should not be done? like i said nothing wrong with believing but some people don't believe in the same thing as others. and the discussions don't have any content that would keep them going. how would you respond to a two line verse from the bible? should this be allowed or shouldn't it? what are your thoughts?

I know which once you are talking about and is kind of hard not to see them when the first 2 pages of "new discussions" is just a title and the verse (5 words). There is no question no discussion no opinion no nothing so what is the point? that is why it is called a discussion. And its in general not just this topic it could be anything eg may has 31 days.......... yes and?????

exactly my point. yes maybe i could have worded it different. it's not the topic itself. it's that it is just pointless.

I dont think there is anything wrong with how you wrote your question its how people choose to read it. you gave a specific topic as an eg and people chose to comment on the eg rather than the idea.

I guess I don't see anything horribly wrong with it. People paste all sorts of things here that may or may not be of interest to the general public. The thing people need to remember when pasting things, regardless of what it is, they need to add their own thoughts or opinions to make it a real discussion. If nothing has been added (whether it's a Bible verse or a news item) I seldom respond. The reason? A completely copy/paste discussion is technically against the guidelines and could be deleted.

Well - maybe they are posting a bible verse because they have no thoughts that they can think of themselves - some people do tend to struggle for what to say and will end up quoting something instead of using their own words. I personally wouldn't respond to someone who just posted a bible verse - it really doesn't add anything to the discussion at hand - And I like it when others actually share their own opinions in order to keep things going. My 2 cents!!

I agree and disagree. I agree that there definitly should be something more to a discussion then a verse from the bible but i disagree about it not being alowed becasue it is freedom of speach everyone has their own right to post what they want. However I have gotten responces to my discusions that is just a verse out of the bible and I am by no means against any type of religion and I may or may not believe in the higher power and all that jaz but I dont understand the bible I never went to church and was never was taught the meanings of the verses so when someone responds to one of my discusions with a verse i dont know what they are truely tring to state. Im sure that when they responded they used a verse that suited how they wanted to respond but to those who have no clue about the bible then it is completly pointless. And some who dont beleive could be completly offended that they were responded to in that way and vise versa There seemed to be alot of people pffended by you discussion, yelling at you that there is the freedon to chose to read it or not read it and that there is the freedon to poast what ever it is that they want as long as it isnt against the guidlines, well heres a thought for all of those people that jumped down your throat about your discussion and especialy the ones saying that you shouldt say this, YOU HAVE THE FREEDOM TO POST THIS DISCUSSION BECASUE IT IS YOUR OPPINION. They all should practice what they preach.

hmm i see your point completely. and Cheese, she is right. yes there is freedom of what to say. but everyone was gettin all jumpy when this was just an example. i said nothing was wrong with the bible or your god or whatever it was the discussion in a whole. how would you respond if someone posted a discussion saying Halloween is october 31st? it would be like yeah and what about it.

I can see that a verse of scripture might be interesting, and throw a different perspective on a issue. That's true of any quotation from literature, religion-based or not. But I do object to any referral to the bible as if it settles an argument one way or the other. I'm thinking of statements along the lines of "the bible says it, so it must be true", or "the bible does not support it, so it must be prohibited". OK, it's reasonable to state that your position with regards a topic is influenced by your religion beliefs. But don't expect a non-believer to accept that as a rational argument in the sense of contributing to a debate.

On the one hand, one could say if you don't like the religious threads you can either avoid them, or you can do better and confront them! The latter is very good especially since you are asserting your views on the matter and that too is part of debate and discussions. I'm one to promote free speech and belief though, here on mylot too. There's enough discussion for all sorts of beliefs and others are open to seeing what is in different religions or those who choose not to have religion. The differences really give this place life and allows us to really think about issues in more than one way. Unfortunately, I'll admit there is some bias on the site and certain people do not like different opinions. Especially if they do a number on their fragile mental bubbles.

Maybe they have nothing to say, and for the reason that they wat to post something to earn then they will look for something to post. But I believe that discussion that we should start should be a good start of discussions and exchanging of ideas and nit just to have something to post... I dont know how mylot take things like that, but if it is not deleted then maybe it is allowed.

Hopefully myLot will not make rules about what is allowed and what is not. We live in a Free country, lets not wish for rules that tie our hands. So whats wrong with a few quotes from the Book of Myth? Think of how much fun these Quoters are getting from Quoting these Quotes. Sure its boring, but we don't have to read it, do we? Thanks for your time!

since you are my mylot friend, this is just to find out what/how your spiritual background is.in mylot community i believe its a pluralistic community, so such topic like this one will vary from one to another.i know that.this is because we are of different social, economic and spiritual background.i know you would have your own ground to respond to my point, but that is what mylot is about. let us see how it goes. but, i still believe bible as man's manual on earth.
