Do we create our own experiences?

Are we really responsible for the things that happen to us in life, or is it beyond our control? Some people say that we, either consciously or unconsciously create our own experiences? Do this make sense to you? Does everything good or bad, happen by accident, or do our thoughts play a part. What do you think? Blessings.

I dont think anything whether good or bad that happens in our lives is by "accident"....not at all...we bring to us what we put out but also we experience things because we NEED TO....For example, all that went on with my youngest was NECESSARY for this family at that moment in time and the time after that...Out of everythign that is bad on the surface comes something good from deep within....Losing my son was a horrible experience for all of us but in the end, the good things that came out of it all was amazing....Same with my personal history...being a child who was abused on many levels for a very long time (well into my adult yrs in some cases) and a teen who was raped twice and brutally beaten as well the second time was hell on earth for me for many yrs...but out of that horror grew something absolutely incredible....All these things NEEDED to happen in order for me to become the woman/mother/friend/lover i am today..So no I dont think anything is an "accident" at all...At the same time though, like I said, what we put out (energy wise) is definately what we get back as well.....If we are constantly negative then negative things will be the constant in our lives....If we are positive more often than not then the same will be returned to us....Whats misunderstood though by many is "what" we put out....Often I've found that ppl think its our words and actions only that apply to that but its not...Its our OVERALL energy which includes our thoughts, feeligns and to an extent our beliefs along with our actions and words...
also nothingn IMO in our lives is beyond our control..not by a long shot as far as I'm concerned..Only WE HAVE THE POWER to change our lives, our situations, our experiences and so on..

I think we do create most of our own experiences. We should always seek opportunity for new ones, and not let negative past experiences prohibit us from making new ones and moving on to have the chances to learn and grow. I think our thoughts and attitude have a huge part in directing us.

It's a great topic and mystics and yogis, seers and saints have pondered over the questions for ages now. And I would like to quote from the ancient Indian scripture Yoga Vashishta. It says, everything is a creation of the mind. And whatever we are experiencing is nothing but our imagination. So, whatever experiences we are facing in the present is an action of the past. And the present experience could be or rather is also an action of a past life as well. So, a series of incarnations is nothing but a series of imagination or thought reactions of the mind. Just as you sit and imagine about something, if you notice, that single thought starts building up into something else, and that leads to another and another and suddenly, you are lost in your own world of imagination. And suddenly, when you come out of it, you are like, "my God, where was I?"
Similarly, the life that we are going through is nothing but an imagination or a thought created by us. And once this life is over, we would awaken in our spirit form and say, "oh my God, that was just a dream". I haven't experienced it, but that's what the scriptures like Yoga Vashishta and the Gita says. So whatever good or bad happens is a consequence of our actions of the past. Everything that we experience is a calculated consequence of our past thoughts and actions. So what we are now, we are totally responsible for it.

Funny that you should bring up this subject, Pose123. I just happen to have finished a book that deals with the topic. What I came away from the book understanding is that all of our decisions are based upon free will, and it is ultimately this free will that can get us into a heap of trouble. Now, I've always been a huge proponent of free will, but, after learning this, I'm not so sure it's a good thing any more.

Yes its my belief that we create every second of our lives. There are 3 kinds of creation,- thought, word, and deed. Thoughts are the beginnig of creation, words are more definate, and deeds are the most creative. For the most part we do this unconsciously, but it happens continually during our day. There are no Good or Bad things in God's world, there are Just Things, This can be explained by stating- "Whats good for the Gander may not necessarily be good for the Goose!" There are NO accidents! Every occurrance is Part of the Grand Design. Our thoughts, words, and deeds, do indeed Create our lives from beginning to end.

I believe to some extent we can can control the things that happen to us with our thoughts (that we do have ability to attract certain things to us) but more importantly, we do have the ability to control how we react, think and feel about circumstances. That is what makes the difference between a content person and one who isn't. I think the world really is how each of us believes it is.

Ultimately... we are responsible for the choices we make.
We might be influenced by someone into doing something which we would not normally do. And a lot of people get easily influenced by their family or friends. The fact that we are not strong enough to resist them... is no excuse. We are still responsible.
Even worse... some of us let others make the hard decisions for us. But at the end of the day... you are still responsible. Responsible... because as an adult... you should make your own decisions. Ignorance and stupidity is not an excuse.
Of course... there are plenty of times that you might not have any control over what happen to you.
You can hardly help it if you find yourself in an hurricane or a earthquake. If a drunk driver crashes into you... it is obviously not your fault.
So... destiny, luck or bad luck... also plays a part into it. Which is why... you must do your very best to not create problems for yourself. Problems have the habit to arrive all by themselves. You don't need to look for extra ones.

I think some of the experiences we do create ourselves, but others come by accident. Our thoughts can cause certain people to gravitate towards us, and that does cause things to happen. Much of it is because of the words of others. For instance, if you have been called bad, or no good, even if you dress decently, your vibe will attract bad sorts of men, and even though another girl dresses trashy, she will get the decent guys, but you will get the bad ones.
This is not a conscious thing, but an unconscious thing and we are often unaware of it until we either go in therapy or start psycho analyzing ourselves, and the attitude of our parents, etc. but by that time, the damage has been done.

I believe that for ever action there is a re-action. The goal is to pick proper actions for good re-actions.
Example:
You decide to punch someone you don't like in the face. You may end up in jail for assult.
OR
You decide to stay away from someone you don't like therefore you get to go on with your life with no problems b/c of them.
I also believe that some things are out of our control and happen for a reason.
Example:
I've never had children...perhaps there is a reason that I don't know. Maybe there would be medical problems or something. I've excepted that God has other plans for me and moved on with my life.

Hi Pose123! I think that some situations can be controllable and others are beyond our control. I don't think that we would consciously or unconsiously want something bad to befall us. All I know is that I am responsible for the actions I made and for the decisions I have done but things that are beyond my control, I don't think I am responsible for that. I will accept responsiblity and blame for all the consequences of my past actions and decisions that have affected me and other people. And I think whatever has happened to us, whether it is good or bad, are designed somehow to make us better and wiser persons but of course i will prefer good things happening to me. hehe.. Just my thoughts my freind. Take care and have a nice day.

Hello there. I feel that there are certain things in life that are out of our control and certain things which are within our control. For instance, the family we are born into, our childhood experience and etc are mainly determined by other people or other factors. As we grow older, we have more control over the things that happen in our life. The choices we make often impact our present and our future. Hence, I feel we do not create all life experiences but only part of it. Other parts are created by God and also other people.

i think you're referring to the laws of attraction. i watched a documentary about that and it was explained that we all possess enough energy to command things to happen. so for instance, in my case, i wanted soooo bad to have a new PC and i kept on thinking about it, wishing for it, praying for it, and i also kept visualizing what i would do once i had it and where i'd place it in my room. when you visualize, you're gradually attracting that event to happen - or so the documentary explains. so anyway, after a few weeks, money just came in - an unexpected bonus from my work, some from my freelance work - and i was able to buy me a new PC. coincidence or not, i'm mighty glad i was able to buy me a new PC lolz

Hi ethereal, Yes, I have read about the power of attraction, and that is part of what I had in mind. In this disscussion, I was thinking more about attracting friends, good health and happiness, but your example is a good one. We do create, and we can do it consciously or unconsciously, it's up to us, but we do it anyway, so why not consciously, where we choose for ourselves. Blessings.

Yes, our experiences mostly depends on our decisions. On our choices in life. we are what we are right now because we allow it to happen. because it is the result of our decisions in life. Of our choices of experiences. We are the author of our life. We create our own scenes.

I think there are some things within our control but these things are somewhat limited to how much control one person has over their own life, if you did your best to control your circumstances (wealth, location, health, etc) then you have a lot better chance of controlling your experiences. It's all about the variables involved but in the scheme of things those things like wealth, health, etc are minuscule.
For example things like weather, religion, culture, family are generally outside of an individuals control and like it or not all those factors play a role. To give you a small example if there is a drought where I live (driest state in the driest country lol) then I might need to move which changes my environment, maybe my job which changes experiences I will have in life. I might not as much money due to my job changing so I can't go on a holiday I have wanted, etc etc you get the idea.
Point is you can try to exert control over some things in your life but the best your probably going to do is make something was likely (A holiday) more then likely (Make sure your healthy to travel, that you have enough money, that you can get time of work, the things you can control). I mean it might happen either way because of factors outside your control but by controlling those things you make it more likely.
Im no expert but I would think the above is a description of the illusion that people can control everything in their life :)
