Are the syores open Sunday morning where you live? In some of the counties where I live ths stores can't open on Sunday until 1:30. We have what is called blue laws. That means that you can't buy or sell any thing but groceries or gas until 1:30pm. You can get into Wal-Mart but the only things you can get to are the groceries. You can't buy any thing but groceries after 12:00am if it is open 24/7 I think it's silly because we can go across town and shop ealier in the other stores. Do you have blue laws where you live? What do you think of them. do they encourage you to go to church?

I don't think we have any laws like that where we live. I've never even heard of blue laws. I'm surprised because I live in the South, and it's the Bible Belt. I'm sure that would be a good thing for people though. There are a few stores that don't open on Sundays at all.

I live in the south too. In fact I live in South Carolina. Most of the state doesn't have these blue laws. there were around years ago before the stores were open on Sundays.

We really don't have any such laws in our country and also we don't have any such shops which is open 24 hours. We have all regular shops which will be open from 10 to 10 that's all anyone can shop any time and day, no restrictions.

Here in the US our grocery stores are usually open between from 7:00am to 10:00pm. It's interesting to learn the ways we are different from other countries.

Morning deeboom. In my country China we can buy everything on Sunday and it is the best time of the week for people to go shopping as they are having their weekends off and have more time for shopping. Therefore the shops have more customers on Saturday and Sunday.

No they don't have blue laws here where I live. Never heard of such. I don't think that it would encourage anyone to go to church in my opinion. I go to church, and I think only if you truly wanted to go to church is what would encourage you to go to church not whether a store being able to be open or not.

I agree that if a person wants to go to church keeping the stores closed won't encourage anyone to go.

I live in the US and yes we have the blue laws but somehow a lot of the stores don't go by them. Most of the stores around here open at noon and close around 6pm. They don't seem to have made much of a difference in the lives of people I know who attend church on a regular basis because now most churches hold masses on Saturday also.

When I wasa kid I remember that none of the stores were open on Sunday. We would get dressed up to go to town to do all our shopping. I really don't think being closed part of the day makes any difference to people that go to church.

Here normally the stores are closed on Sunday. Only once in a month, in the first Sunday of the month, some stores will be open from 12.00 until 17.00. But I never do shopping on this day because the city center will be very crowded, full of people which is not really nice for shopping if it's too crowded.

Thank your for stopping by to respond to my discussion. It is interesting the way sunday shopping is different around the world. I don't enjoy shopping very much so I like you avoid the shopping crowds.

In Kolkata, the rules are divided according to the zone and the market. The city has many market complexes scattered in different areas and each area has one day as closed in the week. So if one area has shops open on Sundays, then the market will remain closed on say Monday or Tuesday. In my area, shops remain closed on Sundays, but a nearby market stays open on Sunday and remains closed on Monday. Apart from this of course, the shopping areas remain closed on Sundays everywhere in the city irrespective of the location.

When i was living in germany there was not a one store opne in Sunday. You got open only gass station and restaurant, pub, and coffe shop, but nothing like groceries. Now when we are living in USA here is open everyhing and it is much better I think. We had one time problem with tv in Germany and it was Sunday and we need to buy a new cable, but we had to wait till another day, so we weren't watching all day.

We don't have that law in my place. All stores are open on weekends the same time as they are open on weekdays. But I know some Filipino stores here in Texas that are closed on Sunday but it doesn't have to do with a law. It's their own decision.

Oh gosh - my area does, and it's ANNOYING! I go to church using SR 60 (the highway in Brandon) and sometimes I get late there! Why? It's because the mall there (a Westfield, at the intersection of that and I-75) is open. Ditto for most stores that don't fall under the groceries/pharmacies categories. I happen to shop at a Walmart (open 24/7), probably just for groceries. But I would die for a place that has blue laws on them. I have to be rich to move to Bergen County, New Jersey (which is crazy-expensive) just to reap the benefits of theirs. I'd probably stay away from Paramus, but if I have to take, say, Irksome Route 17 as part of the way to church, it would be nirvana at best! No traffic heading to the stores because a majority of them are closed! Thus, blue laws do more than encourage me to go to church. They allow me to get to chruch on time. But I'd do my Sunday shopping, just for food.
