have you ever cried because of onions?

I used to cry everytime i slice onions... but then... my husband taught me a very neat trick to avoid this... just cut the onion in half then wash it... after that you will never cry because of onions ever again... i don't know the scientific explanation for this but it really works...

it is the same to me and this isnt silly.i like cooking like you,but i dont want to slice onions because it makes my eyes uncomfortable.my mom always tells me that i should put the onions into water in order that when you slice it you cant cry again.maybe you can try this way before you slice onions next time.

i hate it when it happenes to me.usually i hate cutting onion and give the job to my maid...or i put it in the mixie or chopper!!

My son loves to take fuyoung eggs (fried slices onion with stirred eggs) together with rice. So I prepare the dish very often and the cut onions always make me cry. Later I find that the best way to avoid this, is to put on my glasses before cutting the onions into thin slices. Other than this, in the meanwhile I don’t cut the onions continuously for a long time, instead I cut them at intervals. Say, after I have prepared the stirred egg I then cut the onions again and so on.

Hi irene_27, you are right. onion adds taste in food but makes a cooker cry also. Some peoples say put some part of onoin on your head before slicing it than your will not cry. Even I have seen my mother who keeps some part onion on her head. I too Cried somany times while slicing even now and than tears comes out during slicing of onoins.But we cannot live without onoins it is important part of food in our life.

hi irene, i was also crying when cutting the onion before but now its ok already i just take the peel of onion in the running water in the faucet sometimes i put it 1st in the fridge maybe 15 mins before cutting:-)

I have never had the expeience of cutting a single onion.so to be frank i havent cried because of onions.but i have cried otherwise many a time for personal reasons.anyway its really nice to see such a funny and nice question here.good job dear friend.

yeh i have cried many a times while cutting onion, this is one job i hate the most and secondly you can soak onions for 5 mins and than cut as than you may not cry...

yeah usually i cry whenevewr i slice onions,and even i know how to reduce that i forgot,for reducing your tears you need to put peeled onions in water before slicing them
