I have been looking for work because my three children are at school full time and I feel like a bum sitting home all day. I have very little education or work experience. I have been a stay at home mom for basically 12 years. I have a junky car! I live in the middle of nowhere! Most jobs are evening and weekends. Winter driving here suck! I am a vegetarian too. I got a call back for a job as a fish grater. I don't know if I should take the job. What would you do?

Hi Vic. Sounds pretty tough on you, sorry to hear. I think what you need to do is to figure out whether you need a job or not. One thing is to work in the daytime, when kids are all in school anyway, but working evening and weekends would mean that you would have to work while kids are out of school. Personally I think that is way too high a price to pay, unless you need the income to hold the house together. But this somehow is also about your future for when the kids have moved on and you need to start somewhere. It may not be your favourite job, but you got to start somewhere and it does not sound as you can allow yourself to be choosy. Not only cause of your lack of skills or education, but also due to where you live.

Day shifts are a pipe dream for me. LOL I didn't take the job but hope I will find something more suited for me. I am not in serious need of money, but feel like a bum cause they go to school full time. I think it will happen when its time though and I find it. Thanks KIM!

Your welcome Vic and I think you are right. No worries. I can understand how you feel, but maybe it's just a sign that you need to find something interesting and fulfilling with your time. That does not necessarily have to be work. Good luck to you my friend, what ever you decide.

It depends on a number of things. Will your car be dependable enough to get you back and forth to work all the time? Will you be working in the cold and if so can you stand the cold? Will your family be willing to help pick up the slack with you being gone all day? If the answere is yes to these questions I think I would give it a try then maybe you could get a more dependable car. Plus it would get you out of the house.

The car wouldn't be reliable enough and I don't have a back up plan if it doesn't. So that is the one thing that is scaring me. It is 25 minutes drive away in the best of road conditions yet they are forecasting snow tonight. And my car suck monkey chucks! If I had a more dependable car I would be very excited to do it. But I would hate to commit myself to something and not be able to pull through.

With kids and not knowing when they would be ill and so many days out of school for various reasons I think I would turn the job down at the present time.

Hi Vicki! Well this definitely does not sound like the right job for you. I would keep looking until I found something more suitable. You will not enjoy working if you hate the job, so find something you love and then you won't mind the driving, etc. Best of luck to you!

I'm trying to transition into Criminal Justice. I'm having a terrible time trying to get an entry level job that isn't scary. But i'm tempted to just take something because I need more money AND to get away from my current job. Would it be worth it.. that's what you have to ask yourself.

I am not a vegetarian, and I am not sure a job as a fish grater is something I would want to do either. I am also looking for a job right now, but would pass on the fish grater job. EWWWWW! I also have a junky car and live in the middle of nowhere. Driving in the winter is terrible cause we live on a gravel road, and then the main road is all curvy. Evening jobs are what look like my options right now too. I need to go back to school so I can get a good job, but will settle for right now. Good luck in your job search.

Yeah nights are what it looks like too. The road to the fish plant is a curvy terrible road too, so I know the travel is my biggest challenge. Good Luck on your search too, it is so tough.

I applied yesterday at a bakery that is hiring. I love to bake, so it would be the perfect job for me. It is also only about 10 blocks from where my mother works, so I would be able to car pool with her if my car were to break. Added bonus.

Well that is tough. I think you need to weigh the pros and cons of the job and make sure it is worth your time...like the money, expenses in travelling...childcare etc. Good luck....

Hi vicki! It seems like there are a lot of people in your shoes. Being a stay at home mom is a lot of work, too bad it doesn't pay in cash... I did notice a few comments from people about some of the work-at-home opportunites. They are great in that you set your own hours, work around your kids "emergencies" and days off school, and the transportation isn't a problem if you're not leaving the house... I actually have something that I'm very happy with and would love to share it with you. Since we're not supposed to post links, if you shoot me a PM I can get with you that way. Take care!

Hello VIcki, My question is:what would you loose if you take this job? I think momently you should not plan more, then give a try. YOu do not have to give up another possibilit yfor it, or do you feel you can loose something? maybe your time at home? I say, Give try for it! If you have problems during the winter, you quit.

In my opinion a job is a job. I would take it if I needed the money. Just because you do not eat the fish does not mean someone else cannot eat the fish. Now I said that I want to know why you are a vegetarian? Is if because you cannot stand the wild animals to be hurt, or is it you do not eat meat for a choice of diet for your health? If it has to do with not wanting to hurt the animals then I do not think you could grate fish up. If it was just a diet choice then I think I would take the job until something else come along that was better. I hope that helps.

I went there today and tried out the training and I got a rash from the fish juice, so I couldn't get the job. :( I agree a job is a job and I tried but will look for something else. I am a vegetarian mainly by accident. LOL I had health concerns and just started reducing the meat. I found so many ways to make healthy food without it and just ended up realizing a few months went by and I haven't eaten it. My man is a hunter and I am okay with it. My son goes with him too. However I don't prepare any of the meat myself.

I work from home for this and many other reasons. I would not want to have to work while my kids were home and I would not want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere should my car break down. I would find a way to work from home but add in some social activities if you can. Maybe you can find a ladies group or sewing or such whatever your interests may be. That would get you out a little bit but you would still be able to arrange to be at home when the kids are home.

I think its best to wait and find a job that you will really enjoy doing. Of course your not going to love your job everyday all the time, but don't jump into a job that you already have negative feelings about because you will just be miserable. It's better to wait and find something you like.

Yeah I ended up getting a rash this morning from the fish juice so I couldn't take the job. Going to have to look for something else, hopefully that makes me happier.

i'm not too sure of the area you live in but at seems that you get in touch with a local job agency you will have a very good chance of getting a job from one of them. They always have loads of vacancies to fill so you shouldn't need to many qualifications. At the moment i am a stay at home mum and i am looking for work i can do from home, avon, anne summers etc

If a situation appears just like you then I do that kind of job which are doing in home. 1. Some stitching work. 2. Giving education to child. 3. Writing articles etc.

Checck out this website...www.wahm.com and look for telecommuting obs. I found one there with a great legit company, I set my own hours, and I get paid every two weeks. It works great. I don't have to leave the house and I've been averaging between $600-$1000 extra a month, with no investment! There are several companies hiring, Alpine Access, West to name a few. Hang in there and good luck to you!
