We did our jack o' lanterns last night. We use squashes and pumpkins. There are some really awesome ones and ideas out there but the kids just went to town and did whatever they wanted on their own this year and had lots of fun. Do you carve pumpkins? Do you use a stencil or just off the cuff?

I don't carve every Halloween, at least not anymore. When I was younger, we used to carve pumpkins quite a bit. Now, I carve them every once in awhile. It sucks because I really like doing it. I usually use stencils to carve my pumpkins because I like the more elaborate designs than just the same old thing. I'm not so great with artisitc things unless I have a stencil or something to go on.

Happy Halloween! I carved up five of the suckers last night. The first one was the best and as you look down the line you can see I was tiring! I love your daughters pumpkin. I couldn't find a marker to put a design on the thing so I used my eyeliner, it is the dual purpose make-up!

When I was younger my grandmother would get two or three pumpkins. She loved to bake fresh pumpkin pies. She would work and clean them out and then it was turned over to the kids. We used carving knives to make faces on the pumpkins. Then when I got a little older my mother and I would carve on the pumpkins with what was called a pumpkin carving knife. To me they did not work that well. When I have my daughter they were just coming out with the stencils. When my daughter wall little we just used markers and colored a face on the pumpkin. As she got older we used stencils to make a better pumpkin. These stencils let you make very interesting faces to say the least. I am sure as time goes on there will be more interesting ways to carve a scarry pumpkin. Happy halloween.

Hi vicki,
My hubby and I carved our own pumpkins on Sunday. We found some stencils at the Dollar Store because we were sick and tired of always doing the usual triangle happy face lol. Happy Hallowe'en, hope you have a fun and safe one!
Love & Hugzz, PurpleTeddyBear.

We picked those up last year. They turn out really cool but I found them a bit tricky for younger kids and I ended up doing everyone's pumpkins. So of the patterns are very awesome I love looking at them. Thanks

Hi vicki. We also did ours last night and i was surprised how they turned out, haha. My daughter also went to town with hers, its full of holes and marker designs on it with ghosts, hehe.I just did it free hand,by drawing with a black marker and cutting some pieces out.By the way your daughter did a great job with her scary pumpkin.

When I lived with my parents growing up my parents always took my sister and I to buy a big pumpkin to carve. It was a tradition. I dont like doing this with my kids though. I dont like to waste money or food just to carve pumpkins. This year we happened to go to this free fall festival where they gave out free pumpkins so I let my daughter paint it as they last longer then when you carve them. I attached a picture of the two pumpkins my neice and nephew painted.

No, I did once or twice when I was younger, but that was like around the age of 5. Most of the kids around here smash them, so I figure why even bother?

When I was in the city they used to do that too, so we would only make one and leave it in the house basically so it kinda sucked. Here though they will only do it after Halloween is over if I don't grab it in time. LOL

No, we do not curve pumpkins here. We have no plan of doing it... Halloween is just a simple occasion here in my place. And we just light a candle and pray, and thats all.
