Anime vs. Speed Racer

Ok...now before all you anime fans decide to ambush me and clobber me to pieces, I would like to say that this is only a comparison of what anime characters look like and how, in my opinion, they seem to resemble one of my favorite '70s cartoon characters named Speed Racer. I had just responded to a discussion about an anime avatar and thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else notices the resemblance. Here's the link to a site where you can click on the Speed Racer logo and watch a short clip of the cartoon:
http://www.stuckinthe70s.com/cartoons.htm
And I added a picture of the star of the show himself so that you could decide for yourself. So....is it my imagination, or is there at least a slight resemblance between Racer and the new anime characters?
Have a great night everyone!

Huh!?
Why's everyone looking at me!? What!?
Katlady yes anime styles have changed a bit, but not that much to the casual viewer. Plus different creators and artists have different styles of it overall. And don't worry Katlady, at least I'm not gonna bash you or anything. I like this discussion and you for actually having it. By the way, I do miss some 70s and 80s anime. *reminiscent breath* Those were the days. :)

Hi friend,
Let me just hope we will still be friends after you read this. My daughter is going to a private university to learn how to do animation, so I and my $20,000 a year must say it's really different. It's not just the eyes, it's the dress, the action, a lot of sword fighting, hair is really different, there are so many different ways of drawing anime. Next year, the college is sending her to Japan to study abroad for a year because Japan is so far ahead than us. Also they use a lot of animals and make believe animals. My daughter can work on one character for over 8 hours. I can draw a stick person...lol. I don't know much about anime except it is a lot different than the 70's cartoon. The more I learn about it, the more amazed I am about it.

I don't watch the new anime much, so I don't know a whole lot about it either. My concentration was actually pretty much on the facial features. So your info is actually a big help to me. That is so awesome that your daughter gets to go to Japan for her studies! I really hope she does well. And what's with the "hope we'll still be friends" thing? I told you you were stuck with me for life....SO THERE! Ppppppfffffffttttttt! There's your Raspberry Kiss for the day! LOL! Love ya hon.

Correct Alamode. The style of eyes is it and it stems from the theatre/play style of the country. That and the size of eyes allows easy display of expression on the characters.
