30 doctors will operate on "Lakshmi, named after the four-armed Hindu goddess of wealth." Her parents kept her hidden when a circus tried to buy her! The surgery will be complicated. She has "two spines are merged, she has four kidneys, entangled nerves, two stomach cavities and two chest cavities. She cannot stand up or walk." The hospital in Bangalore, India is paying the expenses as the family can not afford it. What a foreign concept! But, medical science will try to make this little girl able to have a normal life and that is very cool! http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1680957,00.html

If they’ll survive from the surgery maybe their lives isn’t that long. There are some of those same cases here in my country too and they didn’t stay long here on earth. The story of the circus is bad, I mean that’s so mean they’re still humans.

poor girl... i really don't like to heart that there are people who wants to buy her and make money out of her being different...i mean, those people (in the circus) are way too greedy... i hope the girl will have a successful surgery and grow up normal and be treated normally...

Yes I read about this in the papers too. It is a rare case, an anomaly of nature. But what I found surprising and heartening is the behaviour of her parents. As it is in India, girls are treated as second class citizens, to be married off as soon as possible, more so among families as poor as the girl’s. It would have been natural if the child was dumped at birth, picked up by some circus party and pandered among the small towns of the great Indian heartland as the greatest exhibit of the show. But the fact that the parents protected her, showed interest in her treatment and the doctors have actually taken up the challenge, makes things look a bit brighter for Indian girls.

What it appears was that in the womb, the embryo started to divide into a twin and then instead of splitting, one twin merged into the other. So the doctors might find the other head inside of her. It sounds like science fiction, imagine there being two of you intertwined, one over the other. Scary. I hope this little girl will be able to lead a normal life.

That poor little girl, this is terrible..can you imagine a circus tryng to buy her...What kind of world are we living in anyway,to make a publis example out of someones handicap..I am so happy that they are going to do this surgery.i do hope they can fix this poor little girl so she can lead a normal life if possible...I hate to hear such news as this.I love children and i cannot hardly stand to see one of them suffer...

The part that gets me the most is that she had a parasitic twin and that's why she has extra things. I think that's just weird, cause like... I don't know. The whole "parasite" thing just makes me think bad rather than good. I wonder what the mother was thinking when she found out she had parasitic twins in her tummy. I don't know if I woulda went through with the birth you know? But seems like a good mother and a good system and I hope it works out!

oh yes! I also saw that girl in the news. Doctors have said that it will take around 40 hours in operation and chances for the success of the operation is around 20-30%. Operatiion is being conducted by the team of 30 doctors. they said that it is the case where the twins are having one head and two joined bodies. It is exactly opposite to some cases that we see when twins have two joined heads and a single body! Anyways! Wishing a good luck to her for the operation and for her new life after operation.........
