Money vs Free time

Not so long ago I started my day job after 7 months of staying home and doing freelance stuff. When I was a freelancer I had a lot of free time but didn't have enough money, now I have a really good salary, but don't have time to enjoy myself. And now I have a dilema what is better to have free time and enjoy your life or to have money but only enjoy yourself on weekends? What do you think?

In a first time work very hard but after this "hard time" you can work less.

I think working less will be only possible when I retire, and this will happen in 50 more years. Lol.

Retirement comes faster than you think... Hun is retiring right now, and I could swear we just got started! Now we have to worry about not getting too bored in our old age!LOL!

Unfortunately it is essential to have the money to pay for bills and to spend during your free time. It is an evil cycle. Work, get paid, spend money, work, get paid, spend money. Maybe it would be a good idea to work a little longer and save up a good chunck of money and then take the time off to enjoy.

i think it has to be balance... as long as you can manage your time properly, i'm sure you can divide your time wisely between work and leisure and you can still enjoy yourself... there is time for everything...

Yes I agree that being a part timer or a freelance worker is something you don’t have a constant salary. But when you’re employed on a daily basis, for sure you’ll have the money you wanted. But the thing is you time will be controlled, you cannot just go home and do something while its working hours. For me I prefer to be employed because I think in that way I’ll be trained to do something I could use for my future references. Plus I won’t get bored.

I am going to college so I don't have too much free time but during an hour or so of my free time I spend it on here trying to make a little extra monthly money to pay a bill.

This dilema is faced by most of us in the modern world. Which one is more important money or free time. It will depend upon person to person. Given the choice, I would like to have some free time and peace instead of money and money. We must have some free time to enjoy ourselves, otherwise our life would become dull and drab and mechanical. Money cannot buy everything.

Just give it some time... my daughter started a new job after being laid off for many months. She was exhausted for the first few weeks... now she has her routine worked out and we get to see her again!LOL! Having money is a very nice thing... it's worth enjoying yourself only on weekends if it keeps you from having to worry about money all the time!

i will say that you really have a hard choice between thse two. it's really important that we have money that we want. but if that job will keep you from enjoying some things or even some free time, then you will have to think which is more important for you or which do you need most. if you really need more money you really have to sacrifice and work more and lose your free time. and when you have enough money then you can just go or transfer to some work that doesnt pay that much but will allow you to have the free time that you are dreaming. i will say that you are really in one such situation. but i will say that i will choose the job that doesn't really offer much money but allows me to have some free time. i really wok only so that i will have some money to do some malling and to buy some things and to be able to go to some beautiful places. but if that work will prevent me from those things i really want to do then i will not anymore want to continue with that job. as soon that i find out that my work is more of a torture and more of a sacrifice that an incentives for me to enjy life i will just give it up soon as i can. but if i really badly need that work i will just adjust to it and try to enjoy it as much as i can so that i will not really be stressed in that job. for me here in mylot, i really like posting here cause i really enjoy this site and not much for the money. if i really want some money i will just look some where else. and besides this site is great for learning how to type more with ease with no mistakes. i am really trying to post as much as i can and reading back with my comments and see if i still make some mistakes. before i really make so many mistakes and forget to type so many words that my comments could hardly be understood. but now i really notice that i forget less and less and less mistakes in my spelling too. it really takes some perverance to be good in this site. sometimes i get depressed when i have nothing to post about some particular topic on this site. since there are lots of topics that i have nothing to share. sometimes i really have to invent some things for the sake that i will be able to post and make some comments. sometimes what i really enjoy is not really giving a comment but seeing my finger working or typing so fast. though i really could not say that i am really that fast but i am trying to improve it so that i can boast that i can really post a lot and be like a professional typist. it will be great if i can be like a professional typist just because i keep posting here. but it's really hard to remember every letter that fast. sometimes i will have to stop and think for a while where i should hit the next key on the keyboard. it's really a challenge for me to type here and to tbink fast of what to say.

I think you should save money in the job you are in now so that you can go back to being freelance without worrying. That way you have something to get you started.

well tell y awhat i worked 15 yeras for honeywell until i became sick and the drs found a brain tumor in my head after that my working days would soon be over if i had a choice really i would rather be working and being able to help provide and have money to do the things i want to on a fixed income you are sorta like stuck and cant do much after paying bills you stil have your free time but you get bored even with hobbies from time to time tok me many years to try to even adapt to staying home i was once a work achololic for many years i do enjoy life but still even being home and being bored life still seems to be passing by to fast if a person could find a legitimate home job for people like me to work from home then it would be worth it but then again you wouldnt have much free time so which is better? im not sure i like staying home so i dont have the responsibility of geting up everyday going to work but on the other hand there are times i wish i could go ut and work cause then i would meet new people and with new adventures to

I used to have a full time job, but it did not pay that much, and I did not have that much free time either. So sometimes you get neither. It all depends on what you consider most important, if you want to get more free lancing in, you might have to just work part time, rather than full time. You will get less money but enjoy yourself. Or you might have to do the laundry before you go to work, and put it in the dryer in the evening. In other words, do a little when you come home, so that you can have the weekends free. I would rather have more free time, and I am great at saving money.

I can really identify with your dilemma because I am a free lance writer and find the flex time of great appeal and I cannot fathom going back to work for any ever again. To me flexibility, quality of life, time to balance work and playtime is something no amount of money can buy is why I opt for free time over greater financial wealth. However my hubby and I do not have kids and have a different yardstick for success than what drives others. I posted a discussion on success and had some interesting responses. Across the board the prevailing opinion is that quality of life is the key whether you have modest means or great wealth. Maybe you could have the best of both worlds by sending out more query letters, write a business plan to increase your writing income. Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose to do! Cheers, Raia

though when you have a work only free on weekends,it not bad as you thought maybe. i mean you can choose a work which you intersted in,so you feel work is also a way to enjoy yourself, lead a happy life.then you can make money and enjoy yourself at the same time.

We have the same experience but the other way around. A year ago I was working my butt off and I was paid quite handsomely at that. I can buy most of the things I want, I can dine out whenever I want, I buy lots of toys for my son but I was really so tired to do anything else at home. My son would try to wake me up, wanting to play with me and I would be exhausted to do so. When I was awake I was always stressed out thinking about my work. So eventually I quit my job and chose to stay at home. We lived solely on my husband's salary for almost a year and could not even afford internet at our home. I did spend lots of time with my son, taking him to the playground and stuff but was also bored out of my mind. So I finally decided to go ahead with the internet and I am happy because I found something useful to do online. It does not take much of my time, sometimes 3 days in a week, so I can still take care of my son and I can pay my internet bills too and help with some of the other bills. For your question, I will take the free time and enjoy my life any second than have the money, I did not even enjoy my weekends during those times I was working because I was too stressed out. Maybe if I had a job I enjoyed it would be alright but I did not.
