questions about JEANS...

November 6, 2007 11:10pm CST
i wonder if someone has posted this question before but today, i have a feeling that i might as well just post it.. How often you wash your JEANS? Do you wear it till it smells funny or wear it several times and wash it? And what do you do with old, torn pair of JEANS? Do you cut the half bottom and turn it into short or donate them away?

I don't really wear the same jeans consecutively, and normally it doesn't really get dirty after I wear it once. So i usually wear one then hang it up then wear another then hang it up then another then do the same then after that I can go back and use either of the first two. Then after the second time I wear it I have it washed. But it also depends on where I've been to or how long I wore them. If it happens to only be a short period of time and mostly stayed in an air conditioned area then I can go wait for a third time before washing. As for old jeans, I don't do a regular closet clean up therefore a lot of them still stays there at the bottom, it is sorted out anyhow. But when I do decluttering then most of them goes out to be given away to people my mom knows, like her employees, same goes with tops. She brings them to her office then asks the people there to get whichever they like.

very generous of you. at least nothing is wasted after they're not fit to use anymore. your wardrobe must be very colorful inside! thanks smints!

I wash them depending on how many times or the hours I've wore them, like if I wore them whole day then I won't wear them anymore for there's a possibility that it smells awful already!;) But I know some people prefer to over-use their clothes, then wash them if they feel like their jeans can walk or stand by itself because it is already stiff due to germs and dusts!LoL For my old jeans, I sometimes turn them into short or donate them for those who can still make good use of it. I have relatives of those so-called "have nots" and I always give them something that I don't have any use of, which are still presentable and decent-looking clothes.

what Raijin? "...feel like their jeans can walk or stand by itself..." can that pair of jeans really stand?..lol... i believe they can smell funny after a few uses but standing on its own is something i need to find out...ha ha ha.. but anyway, it's good to know that they still useful to others when we don't need them anymore ..thank you! Sara, how many sets of jeans have you torched? (just asking..lol)

Well single, that's a local joke here that me and my friends would always love to share a good laugh at. when we always see someone who never changed their clothes or jeans, we would tell them that they change it for their Jeans might stand up by it's own then walk because the germs are all ALIVE and there are too many of them living on that clothing!;)

I tend to wear my jeans twice before I wash them. But I don't wear them for long periods of time. Like on Monday, Wednesday and Friday I stay home so I wear my sweats. I will put on jeans if I am leaving the house, but other than that, I just wear my "at home" clothes. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I wear one pair of jeans to take my son to school and run errands. On the weekends I have my "hot mama" jeans that I wear to go places with my hubby. I own several pairs of jeans, I just don't wear them that often. With my older jeans, if they are in good condition, I will donate them. If they are torn in the legs, I will cut the legs off and make shorts or a skirt out of the rest of the jean. The cut off pieces get turned into toys for the dogs.

very creative and i'm sure those puppies will be very happy with their new 'toys'..lol.. Is "hot mama" a brand name for jeans? (maybe I'm still living in the 80s )

LOL. No, "hot mama" jeans refer to my jeans that are just tight enough. The type that make your bottom look nice and firm and round. My hubby is the one who started calling them my "hot mama" jeans.

I usually wear a pair of jeans twice before washing them...i got use to doing that ever since i was a kid... so it is a habit that i have no intention of breaking... I don't turn my old jeans into shorts but i would just give them to a relative from the province if they don't fit me anymore...

I wash my jeans after 2 to 3 uses, unless I got it really dirty for the first time I used it, like during this time when I got all muddy on an out-of-town trip. Of course I had to wash my jeans after the first time I used it. And I don't let it smell funny anymore, 3 times is my limit. When I have old, torn jeans, sometimes I turn them into shorts, but most of the time I just give them away.

yeah, the average usage of jeans before they go into washing is approximately 2-3 times. (on casual usage i guess) and guys, you are lucky enough to keep(using) your jeans over the years if Mr Tummy stays the same 'inch' with that jeans...:)

Huhu..i luv wearing jeans. Usually I wash them right after my first use. Jeans looks even better after years wearing it that is because of the washing and drying thing. I save years to make it looks good when i wash them ocassionally..heheh..Usually i will give my jeans to my nieces after about a year or two so i'm not sure what are they doing with it when it torn apart..:)

I wash it after three times maximum of wearing. Hehe… sometimes I don’t wash it after four times but that’s rare. Jeans can fade if washed regularly or right after you wear it. Thank goodness I don’t get to wear jeans very often because I’m still in school and we have our uniform.

Depends on the color of the jeans as to how often I wash them. I do have one pair which is light blue and will only wear one day. The darker colors I'll wear two days but no longer. I have no sense of smell so don't want to run the risk of offending anyone or embarrassing myself. I have cut off jeans and made into shorts but that was primarily because the fit in the waist but not the legs. Was tired of wearing baggy leg jeans. When they are really in bad shape, worn out, I trash them.

simply, me too. when they 'shrink' somewhere at the bottom, the bottom part has to go (cut)...:) and when they 'shrink' on top, everything will go either to the charity or straight into the thrash. thanks carolbee.

I think I wash my jeans like twice a week. Though if one starts to funk up I wear the other pair. As for old jeans I wear them till holes appear in unusal places. So I guess I have no choice but to throw them away, use them as rags or gardening gear.

that's a good idea. what i like about jeans is that they are so heavy duty - they protect your legs from thorns. (but not those jeans with holes in unusual places..:P..coz' that would not be a good idea.) thanks circuscat.

If I am 100% honest then I must admit to wearing it until it smells slightly funny. Especially in the Winter. Most of my jeans are torn around the heels as I am quite short. I would never donate my jeans to any charity as I wear them until they literally fall to pieces! Good question.
13 Nov 07
hi mugglegirl. me too...i seldom donate my jeans away unless they 'shrink' that i can't wear them anymore..:P thanks..:)

Personally, when it comes to clothes I need everything washed everyday.. even if I only wore them for an hour. Once I leave the house wearing something, it goes straight into the washer. no exceptions. Maybe I am weird.

I would normally wear my jeans twice before giving them for washing. I dont just carry on wearing them over and over again. This practice is valid for sarees which are worn for a short period during parties and are then packed back in a secure way as they need drycleaning which costs a good amount. I normally give my old jeans in charity and sometimes for exchange of utensils. This is a popular thing here in india where you can exchange your old clothes for untensils.

that's very interesting! never heard that before but like i said, that sounds very interesting. so, the unused items leaving the house still have some values. and a good culture too. thanks limcyjain.

Hi singlepixel! I washed my jeans after using it three times. It does not smell funny yet with three uses. haha.. I still use my torn jeans at home and I find them more comfortable and more cool. I guess, it is because of the holes. haha.. And with all the jeans that does not fit me anymore, I give them all away. Take care my friend and have a nice day. :) Hey, friend it's been a long time. where have you been? it was less crazy when you were not around. :(
9 Nov 07
wow, that's sexy, faith! why do your jeans have holes? did you purposely made holes all over them? (i should try this at home....lol..) (my computer was/and still is having crazy problems these days + some relatives in the hospital + works + works & works..i thought of quitting but i put it on hold. time is really against me right now but thanks for understanding) p/s - still the CRAZY MONKEY that you know...

I usually wash my jeans every time or on occasion, every other time they are worn. Depending on where they tear, I usually wear them anyway. I have jeans that are purposely torn as well. My husband has jeans that were made to look dirty, they are not and they do not stink..it's just the way they were made. I personally like them.

Hi,there! I usually wash my jeans once a week cause I don't wanna wash it too often in order not to let the color go away too quickly. I won't wear the jeans until it smells funny. But when I don't think it's clean, then I wash it.I've never made my old or torn pair of jeans short.Sometimes I just donated them to some charities, sometimes I threw it away. How about you?
9 Nov 07
i wash them after a reasonable usage of times. not too regular and too long. and when i dry them under the hot sun, i flip them inside out and zipped the zipper tightly. this way, it's color will not fade away unnecessarily. so far, i cut them(old pairs) into shorter pants and wear them for jungle trekking or something. thank you fanji!
