Remembrance Day is on November 11 here in Canada. When I was in Toronto I didn't get the day off of school and most things were open. But here the kids will have a day off and everything will be closed. They make it a bigger deal too.
I think it is a good idea to remember. However sometimes the young kids will pick on mine because we are part German. I don't let that bother me because it is an opportunity to pass down the stories my Oma told me about her time in Germany during the war. I think it is a good time to remind them of the wars of the past and present. About the people who risk or lose their lives serving their countries.
What do you have in your country or community to remember? Do you face some challenges about teaching your children about the wars that have happened or wars of today? Do you do anything special to remember?

Monday is Veteran's Day here in the US. My kids don't have school (ahh, a long weekend). We really don't do much. I think the kids were learning about it at school (I know my oldest did last year in 1st grade--they had veterans from different wars come talk to the kids).
My dad is a Vietnam Veteran and I think it is an important day to remember those people that fought in wars (some who did not believe in what they were even fighting for) and all those that are fighting now. My kids are still young so I really don't bring it up unless they ask.

Here in the United State we call it Veterans Day the schools generall don't let the kids off for the day. My grandson is in NROTC (Military classes at school. He will be doing a parade here in South Carolina. My son was in the military for 20 years and mt dad was a surviver of WWII but is now gone,so in my family it is an improtant day. I feel it is important to remember those that served and those that gave their live for our country. If we forget them we forget thoses wars and what was going o int the world at that time. I'll bet your Oma had some very interesting stories to tell as that had to be a difficult time for her and her family.

Hello Fellow Canadian Friend ;)
I remember when I was a kid we always had to go to school on Rememberance Day too! At 11 am sharp we had to do our minute of silence too, but now a days the kids are home from school and everything is closed. I am glad the holiday is getting more recognition, and I have seen a LOT more poppy sellers this year!
Have A Great Day, PurpleTeddyBear.

I remember the 11 a.m. minute of silence and even continued it for years after leaving school. It is nice to hear it is getting more recognized today. Thanks and have a great long weekend.

one day i decided to create some tension in the class then i started one pulse that teacher is going to keep sliptest and also all the students are ready to attempt the test ...it was a typical test and every one are very tensed and are not deared to ask teacher whether she is keeping test or not.... also if they ask then she will remember to keep test..so then that day that period was so tensed...and all became fools................hahaa
