Join the military! I have, and was able to see some places I couldn't have seen for myself. Highly recommended. Although what you are proposing to do is a good idea as well. While overseas, I have known people to come and do that too so that is good.

Hon, while in, I was fortunate to not have to get to shooting anybody. Nowadays is a whole other ballgame with Iraq in the picture. I joined for the bennies and educational benefits. They even asked me to rejoin. I was like, uhh uhh. Plus they got plenty of chimney smokers in there too hon. Just an option. Check out the civil service part. Peace.

I think it is a very good option. I've actually considered it briefly before. They definately do have a lot of good education and benefits. However, I just don't take orders so well. I''m a do things my own way kind of person.
Thank you very much for your suggestion. I had never thought of that as a travel option before.

Thank you very much for this idea! I don't think I could ever be in the military though. I have terrible vision and a bad back. I smoke and have no lung capacity. Also I don't think I'd ever be able to shoot anyone. I really just don't have the ability to harm people in that manner.

Here are some good jobs for you if you want to work and travel:
Teaching, especially teaching English as a foreign language. There are schools that require teachers for adults, teenagers or children.
A resort representative in a holiday area working for a travel company.
Work in a bar, factory or shop in a town or city overseas.
Casual work done during a working holiday in Australia, New Zealand or Canada. Visas can be obtained but this needs to be done before arriving in one of these countries. The work might in in an office, or a farm or something else that might be quite memorable.
Good luck.

I think Latin American studies would be very interesting especially with a trip to South America included. I am going to have a go at learning Spanish. I liked going to Mexico and Guatemala and would love to venture into more of Central America and go to South America as well. Yes, I love to travel and have taken many trips overseas in my life. I hope that you will enjoy your studies and traveling.

No Problem! You deserved it. I noticed that your answers are always very detailed and informative. Have you done a lot of traveling yourself?
I have done a lot of small trips but nothing big. I actually found a program in latin american studies at a local college that offers the last semester in a country in latin america.

Thank you! I've thought about that. I love to travel so I thought It would be fun to be a travel agent. I don't really have enough sales experience to do this though. But it would be fun.
I've decided to go to school and get a BA and then teach english abroad. I really love working with people from other cultures.

It depends on where you want to travel. If it's just the USA there are a lot of jobs you could get that require travel. Pharmaceutical sales, truck driver, spotter car driver for wide load vehicles, airline attendant, photographer for a national magazine just to name a few.

Thank you these are good ideas. I'd prefer to travel out of north America. I'd like to travel in south america, mexico, europe, and japan.
I'm thinking of getting a ba and a teaching certificate then I can teach overseas.

There are two perspectives involved in it one is travelling as in local travelling, for which marketing is the best option, these kind of jobs are for the people who donot like to stick to the chair and work rather to meet people and roam as well.
or else you can join air hostess that can give you work as well as travelling.

Thank you very much for the tips!
I have done marketing before and merchandising. I wasn't a big fan of driving around a lot locally. I think being an air hostes would be really neat though.
have you done any traveling? worked abroad?

Start learning how to trade stock markets and you can travel anywhere you wish and work (trade) anywhere and when you need to. :-) I share how I do it in my blog and website - check my profile if you are interested. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know how well I would do at trading stocks though. I'm really out of sync with the economic thing. Plus I'm very terrible with math and statistics. Its a good idea though. I'll pass along the idea to any friends I know who are into that and might want to travel.

Well, it is never too late to learn to trade. :-) I have a lot of friends who are from non-financial backgrounds and are doing really well in trading stocks today. Nonetheless, hope your dream to travel and work come true soon. All the best!

You mean to say work and travel at the same time? I have a friend who takes on overseas assignment - often for a project or as an expatriate to the country - for a period of 1-2 years. Otherwise, she will work temporarily for 9 mths and plan a 3 mths' holiday. She is in the accounts line.

Have you considered photography or freelance writer. Real estate agents are a good option and require a foreign language, unless you get hooked with some agent that wants to sell Spanish/French properties to British customers, which happens a lot these days. That reminds me of relocation agencies.
If you speak French, there is always bank teller and customer services in French speaking countries.
You can look at www.swap.ca for some ideas and destinations. Best of luck.

Thank you very much for the advice. I wish I had paid more attention in french class in high school. Our french is considered bastarized french.
I am learning Spanish though this coming semester. I'm hoping I could teach english in latin america at some point.
