Marathon, but not the Running Kind

I was up late last night for several reasons. From around 7pm until way after midnight I watched a marathon of The First 48 on A&E. It's about real homicide detectives in different states who are trying to solve a real life case in 48 hours, because that is when most homicides have the most clues and leads to be found. If you haven't seen it, it's gripping and it makes a person appreciate the sacrifices of the detectives and their families.
Of course I did go out to walk my dog several times and I walked over to pick up my mail from the main office, but that is what I watched for generally hours.
So what was the last TV marathon you watched? And when I say marathon, I mean at least 3 episdoes of the show in a row. Perhaps you watched a DVD TV series over and over? Or maybe you caught a Dirty Jobs marathon that Discovery likes to play so much. What was your last TV marathon?

That sounds pretty cool. The last time I watched a bunch of the same show in a row was Grey's Anatomy season 3 on DVD several months ago. I had missed most of the 3rd season because of my schedule at work at the time, so I rented it watched it all in 2 days time.

I quite enjoy marathons. I've had a Nightmare on Elm Street Marathon about 3 or 4 years ago. That's 7 Nightmare movies PLUS Freddy Vs. Jason. It was a pretty long marathon. Took about 24 hours to watch it all, with sleep in there. I've also had a Scream movie marathon. 3 movies. and a Punk Brewster Season Marathon.
I've watched plenty of marathons on tv too. Monk, Law & Order: SVU and CI, A few reality show marathons. Outback Jack, that one where people were alone in a room and doing competitions against others til one was left... i forget what that was called. Real World Marathons.
Marathons are really good to do on rainy or snowy weekends. They're also great when you need to get some cleaning done. I cleaned out all the boxes I had in my closets when I moved in one weekend. I'd bring the box out and just watch stuff on tv.... any sort of cleaning, tv marathons rock at!

Blech! I actually know someone who dated Tila Tequila and I refuse to have anything to do with that show. I won't even watch Commercials for it. But You're right... MTV does love their Marathons. They'll even do marathons of shows that aren't even theirs!

wow....ambie this is sure a sort of marathon!!!! Well the first marathon I can remember while speaking is that about the Pirates of the Carabbean...when there was the first opening of the third movie they gave the three movie all together in the cinemas and so they called it the Pirates Marathon...I didn't partecipate in it but sure it was fun and a good way of savouring all the saga!!! Anyway...I have just seen two episodes of Criminal minds in a row and got in love with this serial as you can see from a discussion I started and I hope to learn something more about the serial...and I like seeing movies again and again..this is the reason why I buy my Dvd..guess I have seen Breakfast at Tyffany or Sense and Sensibility and Pride and prejudice countless time...but not in a row...so I am not a marathon winner...and I congratulate on your success!!!! it is just a jest but I am sending you my wishes for a wonderful day. kisses maria beatrice

Since I do not watch much television, I would have to say that mine was a while ago, but it was similiar to yours. Mine was about hardened repeat offenders in prison.
A lot of it was quite shocking. They have so much time on their hands in there, that they figure out the most interesting ways of doing things. They can make knives out of seemingly harmless things, like a news paper. The women are more vicious than the men. Of course, I always knew that.
They have a lot of these shows on cable. They have different names, but all have the same basic ideas. Normally, I would never want to watch such a show, but a ex-friend of mine had been in prison. So these shows were interesting to her.

That sounds like those MSNBC shows that come on late at night, for hours. They go into San Quentin or other prisons and see how the prisoners fair, show the riots, show the weapons confiscated... I don't know if that is what you saw, because I think I've seen something similar on Courtv as well.

Hi Ambie,
I think someone else was talking about this or some show like it, Im not sure which one it is, but one of them counts the segments down, you know saying the time and it types out at he bottom of the screen. lol That drove me crazy, I tried to watch it. Ok, I think Im talking about 24, is there a show just called that? lol *shrugs* Mad TV did a spoof of it, and it was annoyingly funny, they did a good job.
The last marathon I watched actually was Dirty Jobs, I just love Mike Rowe!!! Hes so funny. We also watched a Sanford and Son marathon on TV Land. Hubby likes that show, and its pretty funny to me too. Ive seen other marathons, but off the top of my head Im blank.....well Roseanne, I love her too, ok thats it. lol

No no, I dont like all the blood and cutting and stuff like that. Yuck. It turns my stomach and I can feel it on me! Makes my skin crawl really.
Yeah I thought about this a bit ago and I realised it was 24 and it was on Fox cos thats what Mad TV comes on. Not sure why I associated them but it turned out to be something after reading your comment. Thanks!

We have a kids DVD marathon most weekends. We have Care Bears and Dora the Explorer going for a couple of hours each day just so we can catch up on the house work! lol. As for adult marathons? Um, when we had pay tv, we would often watch the marathons the history or nature channels had. Ah, those were the days. No boring nights back then!

I certainly do. I wish the little critters were real so that then no child would ever feel alone. I prefer Care Bears to some of the other kids shows! lol. Oh well, gotta grow up again! lol.

The marathon I have been to were of Kiefer Sutherland's 24 Season:2, that I think that was two years ago already!;) But for movies, it was James Bond from past to present. It was New Year then and the cable channel's treat was, well, 007 himself!LoL
But I would love to watch cartoon marathons too, I just haven't had time or I just can't find time to watch and enjoy them!;)

I wouldn't even remember when I last had a movie marathon. I hardly ever watch movies, or even much TV, as I don't like a lot of what is on. We have lots of videos & DVD's, but I don't get time to watch those either.
To be honest, I need my sleep nowadays. What with getting up some mornings at 4.00am to take my daughter to swimming training, I am exhausted at night..
A couple of weeks ago I tried to stay up to watch a fairly good movie that was to last until midnight. I started falling asleep at 11.30 so I went to bed & didn't bother to watch the rest.

I've enjoyed The First 48 too. I don't know that I've watched any show like that in a while. There are some I could do it with - actually, I'm lazy and will leave it on the same channel if the shows are even mildly interesting & not change them until they start repeating. That's probably my only objection to watching the same show over - unless its Doctor Who, then I catch different stuff.

Unfortunately I don't have cable anymore, and my antennae that I do have only makes one channel come in fairly clear, so if I have a marathon "watch" I have to create my own which I did a few months ago. I was in a nostalgic mood and pulled out my rather old Star Wars movies. The first three that came out but episode wise are the last three. If that makes sense. LOL.. So watched those three movies, one after another. Another time I did the same with the the Raiders of the Lost Ark series. The absolute very last marathon on TV when I still had cable two years was when they had the 24 hour marathon of Christmas Story which started on Christmas Eve Day and into Christmas day--yes, I did take breaks. And slept, but I pretty much had that movie on the whole time.

We have done a csi Miami marathon about a month ago, I think it was on A&E too. We usually have watched the regular one but have gotten a bit bored of it. I never really got into the miami one because I didn't care for horato but after the marathon I got used to him. My son loves science and action which the show gives both.
