hmmm , you just almost the same with me, I also not good on cook rice, usually it become to hard or to water, any way rice cooker is the best way to make easy cook rice i think. hmmm you eat potato much, this is healtier than rice I think, its a natural diet, I think you should not stop eat potato and replace with rice, it is better if you make rice as a complimentary food only, stick with potato. IMO

Potatoes are good for potassium and serotonin. I've come across a few studies stating that potassium consumption overall is below the recommended. As for rice cooking, usually 3 to 5 minutes is the key, but make sure to use about a 1/4 cup or so less of water than rice so the rice absorbs most or all and you end up with a bit firmer (and tastier!) product. There are also preferences so if you want the softer, you'd want a little more water and a good cook time.

I've got to get one myself. But I'm just fine using the saucepan and boil. My rice comes out pretty great! Off topic: Grats on 10,000 Lilaclady.

Don't worry Lilaclady! Not a lot of people listen to me anyways :D (light humor there). Of course I'm not telling anyone. I have to catch up myself since I got sidetracked both on the discussion making side and real life items. Oh and check my response to the response above, I hope that helps too.

I love rice and have it at least once a week .I don't have any problems cooking it but have wondered about a rice cooker or evenone one that goes in the microwave. Good luck with your cooker and i hope you get the perfect rice that you want.I think we eat too many potatoes but i don't think we should completly remove them from our diet.In Asia rice seems to be their main staple and look at their figures they are rarely over weight. Enjoy your rice and the cooker

That sounds great. Well, we have our own rice cooker at home. We always eat rice from morning to evening. I think it is nice to have rice cooker at home especially if rice is already part of your main dishes. Have a nice day and take care you always!

I think the idea is to stay away from white rice and go for the natural rice, anyway it will be a change from potato...

I couldn't live without my rice cooker! By the time I finish prepping all the veg for stir-fry, I don't want to have to worry that I may ruin the rice. The rice cooker does make it perfect... we can't eat instant rice anymore... it just tastes WRONG!

I like being able to concentrate on what goes on top of the rice! we don't eat a lot at a time cuz Hun is diabetic and has to watch all starches, but its perfect rice without having to do anything except measure it out and turn it on, and it stays warm...and the leftovers are perfect for fried rice the next day, too!

How fun! I really like my rice cooker, it makes making rice really easy, although I find that I definitely have to wash the rice even though the bag says that I don't.

I already have one (given to me as a wedding gift) I hardly ever use it as it is too much work. There are 3 parts to wash and plus wipe the machine off. I find it easier to put it in a stick free kind of pot and cook it that way. But it did teach me how to cook it properly (water/rice relation) as I was hopeless I would somethimes put so much that I will end up taking half of it and cooking it another pot thats how much I would make.

I plan to buy soon. I used to cook my rice with rice cooker before, but when I moved to the new place here, I forgot to bring one,so at this time I cook my rice with pan. there is nothing wrong with cooing rice in the pan except that using rice cooker is more easier than cooking with pan.

I have heard that rice cookers do give better results in cooking rice (what else would they cook? lol). I believe that there are even some that allow you to cook different types of rice too and can even cook sushi rice to perfection. If it helps you then that can only be good. As for online shopping? Don't get me started! lol.

LOL. I'm sure there will be a user manual with it and if it is a good one, then there will be other foods that you can make, like semollena or couscous. They are cooked pretty much the same way as rice.

rice cooker is the best way to cook the rice. and why would i think so? because they have measurements and theres a cup provided! i suck in cooking rice so i have to rely on using cups so i dont mess it. hehehe! so its good to hear that u got a new one! just make sure u wont forget taking out left over rice cause in my case i forgot about it and 3 days passed since i notice it. LOL!

Hi lilaclady, When my parents came out to visit us this summer they bought us a rice cooker that looks just like yours from our local Walmart for $40.00. They really are a good thing to have, I have enjoyed mine very much! Your Friend, PurpleTeddyBear

Good for you! I've recently bought a rice cooker that can also bake a cake. It comes with a book of recipes. Haven't tried that out yet though.
