This may sound a bit crazy and shameful but I have actually done this. Sshh.. I admit it, I could sometimes sleep during work hours especially if I am in the graveyard shift. I know this could be considered as time fraud but I'm just human who is capable of committing mistakes. I am just lucky enough because I wasn't caught. As my way of time compensation, I just extend without any overtime pay at all. And aside from this, I will do my very best to discipline myself. I should keep myself very busy so that I wouldn't get bored and to refrain from sleeping.

I have done duty on very few occasions in grave yard shifts and I agree with you that it is difficult to keep oneself awake at night. So please do not feel guilty conscience, if you fall asleep, but be cautious and alert not to caught off guard. I do not sleep, while discharging my duties. I do not like to, if I am feeling too sleepy, I would leave the scene, take leave and go back home to take rest. I ensure that I take proper sleep of atleast 7-8 hours, so that I do not fall asleep while on duty.

It's nice to hear your view regarding this matter. At least now I feel a bit relieved knowing that I am not the only person in the world who have done such thing. I know it is unjustifiable but I am also doing my best to fight such drowsiness. Only that there are really some times which I really fail no matter how hard I try not to sleep.

I could relate to this thing. Because I for one have done such thing too! Same case as yours, when I was on a graveyard shift. No matter how hard I stay awake at night, my eyes would really wanna close. I have done this only a few times because I really tried finding some means of staying awake. And thank God there is coffee. I am not a coffee addict, or should I say.. I really don't like coffee at all. But for the sake of my work and integrity, I took some cups of coffee just to stay awake and active during the night. If I were to choose, I don't wanna be in a graveyard shift. Yet, I am just an employer who is oblige to abide company rules and regulations. And a graveyard schedule is given to every employee in a rotation basis. So I gotta live this up and just find some sort of diversion.

Coffee! I used to hate coffee because my granny kept on discouraging me to drink that. She enumerated a lot of disadvantages of coffee. But when I grew up, I seem to love coffee. And I have somehow found the need to take at least a cup of coffee during weekdays to keep me active at work. Though my granny has already passed away, my mom replaces her place. Now, my mom would always discourage me to take coffee but I can't help it because I do need it for my energy. And frankly speaking, it is a bit addictive.

I would never sleep while working. Where I work I'm on my feet most of the time and it keeps me occupied throughout the day. There really is no time for sleep. Even if I did have the time to sleep during work hours I wouldn't. There are people always coming and going and I'm sure if they saw me sleeping they would tell the management. I'm not about to risk losing my job just because I was bored or a bit sleepy. For some reason I find it hard to sleep during the day time anyways. Once I wake up in the morning that is it, I'm up for the rest of the day.

That is so nice of you. In my case, I only get tempted to sleep when I am on the graveyard shift. But it seldom happens because I love my work and I don't wanna lose it like you do. Maybe, one way to avoid such thing is to gain enough rest so that I wouldn't be tired at work. And always focus on my work. But if ever temptations would still knock in, well I need to find some sort of diversion. And for me that would be listening to lively music to keep me alert and active all the time in the workplace.

Some times when i have heavy lunch, i feel a bit drowsy, and also on days when i have less sleep during night due to excess mylotting,i feel sleepy on the next day morning,
But i manage to get rid of the tiredness, by having some hot coffee, or tea.. or else i have a tiny little chat with my friends and get myself refreshed.
Take care and Happy mylotting:)

Yeah, taking some cups of coffee is great. It really take away one's drowsiness. Aside from its taste, it also helps in digestion. Chatting with a few friends at work would be a great help too. And I think, the best thing to do is to gain much rest. So to avoid from being sleepy. Enough rest would mean more energy. And more energy would result to a job well done, of high quality and less cost.

That is a very cool idea. I have never tried doing that. I guess I gotta give it a try when I will be on a graveyard shift soon. One thing that makes me feel so sleepy is that my work involves a lot of reading, no wonder I am often tempted to fall asleep, hehehe. I will add your advice in my list on how to refrain from sleeping during office hours. At least now, I have come up with numerous suggestions to keep myself awake and active when performing my task in the work place and I am pretty sure these things are very effective.

Hahaha.. at least I know that I am not the only one doing this thing at work. But too bad for you dude because you were caught. But still lucky enough because you weren't fired at all. That simply means that you are a good employee. Who can't be fired instantly. Like what I've said that we are only humans who are capable of committing mistakes. And I know for sure why you weren't fired because it would be hard for the company to replace you even if you were caught in the act. Anyway, it is not a big deal for me so long as you could give them the output they are expecting from you.

fortunately, i never fall asleep before while working... no matter how sleepy i am, i try my best to stay awake... i got no time or chance to fall asleep anyway since i am always busy... i am always occupied serving the customers... so i try my best to have enough sleep at night so that i won't feel asleep in the morning while i am working... and i can understand why you can fall asleep because you have graveyard shift... i will fall asleep as well if i have a graveyard shift like you...

You are indeed right. Keeping oneself busy helps so much in staying awake. Because there ain't no time for you to feel sleepy considering that you have a lot of pending work to do. And working in the daytime is also far from temptation of sleeping. But not in all times. I would still say that it merely depends on the body clock and discipline especially. Having enough rest is also a good way of staying so active and alert. Enough rest would give us more energy to be used for the rest of the day. Thus having a good sleep is very useful and healthy.

I used to sleep on the job too, especially on the graveyard shift. But it's not because I was lazy. I am very hardworking. The truth is, if you're very sleepy, you wouldn't be able to perform well and the quality of your work would be compromised. When the brain gets even a little bit of rest, it can perform at an optimum level. That's why I take naps when I have the opportunity.

Very well said. I do agree with you in that matter. What you've shared was very sensible. Sleeping at work doesn't really mean being lazy. And yeah, your right. Taking some naps would be very helpful in gaining energy to optimize our brains. Working while so tired would be a compromise to the quality of our work. Thus we do need to take enough rest once in a while to reach the maximum capacity of our brain and in order to deliver an above average output.

I am a student, not a work people.I think sleeping at class is the same sleeping at work.I always feel tired afer lunch at afernoon,so when i took my first lesson at afernoon my eyelid droped all the time.i afraided that my teacher saw me sleeping ,so i always tried my best to cover up it.it was so tiring to do that.

Exactly! Sleeping at work and sleeping in school are two very similar things. The only difference is in school you are not paid but you are the one who pays, get the logic. I guess sleeping or being sleeping is very normal especially if we lack rest. It would be better to take some naps whenever we do feel tired or sleepy. So that we could gain back the energy we need to make our brain function and be able to perform the tasks assigned to us.

I have not got a job now. I am stil a student. Also, I sleep on the class sometimes.
But I am not crazy,I study hard. When i get bored,it is hard to listen to the teacher. My brain can not perform well, need some rest.and then it can work at an optimum level. No one blame me.I think that is because i am a student.Unfortunately, I will be a doctor one day. u know, doctors r always in the graveyard shift. I hope i can refrain from sleeping then. Or else,I will be fired.

We do experience the same thing. Because, just like what I've said, studying and working are the two similar things. We both use our brain and energy in studying and working. And with the story you have imparted, I would say that sleeping is just so normal especially during the most boring moments. And I totally agree with you that our brain wouldn't function if we are sleepy. So the best thing to do is to take some naps to regain our energy and be able to think well.
