I love to use lots of spices in my dishes. My mother-in-law won't use anything other than salt and pepper. Even if I try to explain to her about tastes she likes in my cooking she refuses to even try. I love to put garlic in just about everything thing. I have also started using savory. It has a wonderful peppery taste. I also put onions in just about everything. Oregano and parsley will also be found in most of my dishes. I have a rosemary plant growing in my kitchen and love to pick a sprig and use it in many dishes. How about you? Do you like to use spices when you cook? What spice to you prefer?

I use garlic the most, too. I have never used ginger, though. I like to use rosemary, thyme, marjoram, savory, cayenne, black pepper, and lots more. I love using spices!!

Oh, I love adding spices and mixing and matching. Every year when the spices go on sale (usually 50-75% off) around the holidays, I buy 1 or 2 that I've never cooked with before. My favorites to use though are garlic, marjoram, rosemary and cayenne pepper -- not all together as a general rule, though. I have a knack for smelling different spices and getting a feel for how well they're going to taste together.

That is a cool idea!! I will have to try that. I did add some to my spice collection this year around canning time, though. LOL Of course, I've never used them. But, they were cheap and were not ones I had used before. I LOVE Garlic!!!

I love cooking with herb and spices. As some one else wrote they are also good for various health reasons. I llike to get mine at the health food store where they have them in bulk. They are much cheaper there too. and when I and my grandaughter go there we have a hard time not getting some of everything. I just got some sage (good for digestion) for our thanksgiving dressing and I got about 2 oz for maybe 50cents. Where if I went to the grocery store it would cost about a couple of dollars. I go in spells for the different herbs and spices. Right now I'm heavy into parasian with garlic and herbs from schillings for my toast in the morning and bell peppers and garlic for almost every thing from scrambbled eggs to ramin noodles to fried potatoes. I'm also drinking lavendar tea before going to bed for relaxing. Soon I'm going to try to make rice with lavendar too.

We have lots of them here, spices has been a part of our cooking eversince. We use it to add and enhance the taste of the food (for it not to bland), to preserve it's richness and to spice up the dish. Some of the spices we have here are basil, bay leaf, onions, garlic, chillis, ginger, which are locally found here in our place.

Yes me too!! I love peppers, green, red, yellow. They have a paprika shaped yellow pepper.(Madame Janet) It is small, but one little bite!!!!It´s HOT. I cannot put that in my dishes because others cannot eat it. Even just a little piece and they say, oh that is spicey! Unions and Garlic almost always. Keeps the body clean on the inside. Just je garlic, some people don´t want to talk to you after that. Sometimes it is an advantage LOL! Italian Spices, parika, tomtoes. I am getting hungry, I think I better go eat something. LOL Take care, have a nice day.

I love using herbs and spices. Some that you will find me using will be cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, oregano, parsley, basil, garlic, onion, tumeric, cumin, and red pepper, as well as salt and pepper. I believe that they help your metabolism as well as your digestion. There are studies, for instance, that say that cinnamon benefits blood sugar and insulin balances, and cholesterol too. Tumeric helps with arthritis pain and may prevent Alzheimer's,rosemary is good for the memory and mental functioning. Garlic is good for heart, cholesterol, bloodpressure, and is a natural antiseptic. Ginger relieves stomach distress and alleviates pain. It is good to clear your head if you have a cold. I love the flavors, as well.

Fennel Seed - Licrorice spice
I love to use spices. Yesterday I had people over for supper and I made brojolie. It calls for fennel seed. My husband did not like the taste but everyone else just loved it.

I like to use garlic powder the most. Mother-in-law doesn't like a lot of spices? Well that is a good way to keep her at home. as long as her son likes it, nothing else matters, LOL.

I love to use spices in my cooking as well. Aside from salt, pepper and garlic I can't live without crushed red peppers. I use it all the time. My husband's favorite spice to cook with is lemon pepper. I also like to chop up red and green bell peppers and cook with them. It's funny because I always hated bell peppers as a kid and now I love them.

I love spices but i use them in different meals and there are other meals that I use only onion and tomato, when i cook Pilau(rice, mixed with beef and sometimes potatoes) i use spices like cinamon, cloves, garlic, black paper, corriander, ginger, cadamom, persly and many other spices, when am making minced meat and mashed potato i try and minimise the amount of spices i use. and sometimes i may not use even onion like when i want plain boiled beef. thanks for the discussion.

My mother is just the opposite from your mother-in-law. She puts so many spices in whatever she cooks that you can't even taste the food! That's funny to me that you would mention savory, I have only recently discovered it and have been putting it in everything. I especially love it in beans, if I'm cooking them without cumin that is. I put garlic in just about everything, and if I'm following a recipe and it calls for one clove of garlic, I'm like "I don't think so!" and I put in 3 or 4 cloves instead. Aioli is the only thing I make where I use less garlic than what the recipe calls for. I also use a lot of fresh ginger. So, my favorites are cumin, savory, garlic, and ginger. Followed by oregano and red pepper flakes.

I hate when people only cook with salt and pepper. To me the food just tastes bland. I use anything from onions, real garlic, garlic powder, onion salt, oregano, parsley, tex mex, garlic salt, and italian seasoning. PurpleTeddyBear.
