Do you read COMICS?

I am not going to ask if you read books - most of you will probably bow your head in shame and try to hide behind a pillow. To many people, books are hideous monsters that sap the life energy of anyone who dares to approach them. You can hear "I don't like to read!"... "It's boring!"... "It makes me sleep!"... blah blah. But hey, just for the record, I love to read - but no, comics are not my cup of tea. :P The question here is that even if you don't read e.g. novels, do you at least read comics? You know what comics are right? You know, those flimsy sheets of paper bound into thin "books"... those thingies with very little text in them but lots lots lots of pictures. I know friends who don't "read" but who are at least avid "readers" of comics. How about you? Do you read COMICS? Any interesting tidbits of your life to tell? Do share. =)

It sounds as if you are raising a reader yourself. I had someone ask me once what was wrong with my kids, because they would sit still and read. I am so glad they grew up to be readers.

it is so nice to read quality reading materials, this may be comics, novels, news papers and etc... as mark twian said, The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them...i think mark twain is rigth. reading quality reading material is a healthy food for our mind.

GEEZ! Now that you mention it, I do read the comics (just 1 strip of the few published) in the papers. And hilariously, all along, I have been thinking I don't read comics... geez...

Out come the closet comic readers lol! No, to me there is no shame if anyone wants to read comics. I prefer a good Martina Cole novel or a detective or even a horror. I think the last time I picked up a comic was the Beano and that was many many full moons ago!

while i was growing up , the first thing that got my attention to read are the comic books because the action pictures attracted me and that's how i got started in reading other things than my dc and marvel comics, even up to now i still do get to read some of them and i still enjoy them. It is nice to feel young again. I even go to the extent of purchasing iconic figures of my heroes for my collection, my favorite is "Thor", the old original character, i hate the new one.

I used to love to read comics when I was a child, especially when my family was traveling by car. My brothers and I used to pass the time by reading comics. My brothers really got into the comic books more than I did, but I did enjoy reading them in the car. They would read them even when we weren't in the car, and one of them collects them to this day. I haven't read a comic book in at least 25 years. I do, however, love to read books.

I don't believe that I have ever acted like the characters in a book I've read, unless that character is much like I am, that is. Is acting like a character in a book a common thing for you to do, and if so, how so?

I used to read comics when I was just a kid. I love to read about comedy. There was this comics for children called Funny Comics in our country. I don't know if it's still existing. I love reading it and I almost had a collection of it. But I eventually stopped reading it as I grew up and changed my hobbies and interestd.

I read recommended fiction on condition that the height of the book is not more than an inch and the print must be in big fonts. Often, comics better meet my criteria easily. Besides, pictures are more attractive than words. LOL.

That's why it is no "fun" to lend books - but because the lender is selfish but many times, the borrower has no concept of "responsibility". :P

I used to read comics when I was a kid, but then I switched to "real" books, when I realized how lacking comics are in substance. I know what you mean about people being so put off by reading. Strange, isn't it?

I used to read comic books when I was in elementary school, but I have always loved to read books as well. I am one of those people who reads just about anything I can get my hands on. As an adult I read novels for pleasure (like fiction), educational books (craft ideas for kids, bible study) magazines, short stories, newspapers, and online information like you find here at myLot. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a dislike for reading!

I read them years ago, especially Tom and Jerry. I haven't even seen a comic book in years. When I hear about one being auctioned for a fortune I cringe and wish I had kept mine. But my mother would have probably thrown them out anyway.

I read both books and comics. I often think that comics can get a pretty unfair reputation because people don't see them as real literature. The truth is that there are some really well written comics and graphic novels out there. For instance, it can be quite amazing to see how art and well written text can work together to make a really emotional and interesting story. Not all comics are about super heros, and there are some stories out there are are unlike anything I have read anywhere else. The trick is to go out there are see what kinds of comics might be more interesting to you. I don't read many superhero type comics myself, I find them boring or cofusing most of the time (confusing because there is just so much back story to keeo track of), but there are some graphic novels like Blankets, and Box Office Poison that are quite long and read like books more than short comic book issues.

You are right. I don't consider them as "real literature" too, hehe. And yes to be fair, I haven't spent serious time exploring comics. :P
