What could be so terrible to make an ordinary 12-year old girl take her own life? For the past week, our country is also abuzz with what happened to Marainette, a 12-year old girl who hanged herself because she could no longer take so much poverty. She is so depressed that her family could barely make ends meet for their daily needs. Yet, I have been in her shoes because I also grew up in poverty and i can't help thinking that something is very amiss here. Though it broke my heart to think of her broken dreams and plight of her family, but I am also a believer and taking ones life is really beyond me and should be beyond any girl especially a 12-year old. Her death horrified our government officials and caused outrage among cause oriented groups. But now is not the time to point fingers but to work hand in hand to prevent another such one happening.
Again, I still wonder, what could cause such girl to take her own life because i don't think poverty is the only reason?

i wish her soul b in peace.poverty is big issue in our society now.to live in poverty is very tough.when a person does nt get a meal to eat, life is just like a hell for him.n in such cases people think to give up their life rather than to b in such a situation.poverty is a situation where people r dying every moment.n this incident is really very shocking for all of us.bt u r true now its the time to go hand in hand n do something to decrease poverty.govt needs to b more alert.its so astonishing that there r so many people in this world who r billionaire n have money like anything.they can spend it on clothes, fashion ,drinks n everything,bt they r nt ready to give it to the poor.Saddest thing

I do agree that those who can help should help too. But I also believe in purpose and strength gained in overcoming obstacles. We should not give blindly but rather provide earning opportunities. Its more than giving them food, its giving them opportunity to better themselves.

I am really sad about these kind of things. There is an old Chinese saying that children in poor families know things earlier. Hard life should not be the reason to be desperated, everyone will face all kinds of troubles. The really problem is our world is too too too materialized. How can everything be measured by price? Why can't live happily with abundant spirit? A young girl at 12 should not know that, just because the ethos of our society is not good for a child. Well, poor child, what makes she feel that the misery of poor is worse than kill herself? I don't know waht to say about that.

Yes, children do think older in poor families. Marianette could be 12 going on 100. Poverty may have battered her dreams and hope but her rape have really broken her spirit which may have kept her going on like a lot of children. I hope she is a lesson to all of us parents and even to those who are in power. We should be watchful with our children no matter what is our status in life. Nothing beats a caring and loving parents and family. Putting food in our tables may keep us busy, but it wouldn't hurt to go the the extra mile of checking on our children.

While our children are killing themselves due to unbearable poverty, it's raining millions and millions of pesos in Malacanang Palace. Congressmen are receiving bags containing hundreds of thousands of pesos each. These politicians are the ones who should kill themselves out of shame.

It is really a terrible incident..She is just 12 yrs old and with so much pressure at that small age i think it is difficult to handle the situation..
These incidents do happen here in India and its very sad..
I think the government should take a needful step to look after such incidents..

that is so sad...
why would a 12 year old want to die because of poverty..
usually kids don't worry about money, all they worry about are their toys.
she must have some terrible experience in her family, or there could be foul play...

I dont think so that the reason is poverty, the question is how she hang her self in the high place, dont tell me she climb up in the rope and jump i dont think so. there's something behind on it eaither some of family member do to he just they hang because she already die. they think they hide the game but one day it will come the truth if your goverment is ready to solve that problem. even you we us to thousand of people they will not believe that the 12 yrs old girl hang her self.

I just read at the newspaper two days ago that the girl was also raped. that is based on the autopsy report. I do pity the family of the little girl because the media people had been judging them. I wish these media people will be a bit more sensitive since the family is still in the mourning stage,

So sad really to see a little girl's hope dashed by poverty. The latest news is that the little girl has been sexually abused. A horrible thing to ever happen to anyone, especially a child. Sure hope the government does something about this issue, and not just issue its standard line, let's move on...

Poverty could make one feel hopeless...but ones hope still persists and dreams are kept alive. As a poor girl, I had felt that too and i persisted. I believe that its not poverty that dashed the girls dreams and hopes...but its the abuse and being raped at such an early age. Her story always makes me feel like crying and like other thousands of people, all i can offer is prayer for her eternal repose.

Have you been to school lately? The competition among students is crazy. Girls are the cruelest too. They are mean to each other all the time. Nice to your face and cruel behind your back. I don't know all the circumstances surrounding this, but no one will. I do know that teenage girls are monsters. They are out to get everyone and only really think about themselves. They have made tv shows based on this. There was a lifetime movie on it. I forget the name, but the girl on there tried to kill herself because the girls at school were making everyone in the school not like her. It was awful. I would hate to be a teenager again. !

oh ,i'm sorry to hear that !
i don't want to hear such things that would cause me ````
actually,in children's world ,they suffer from so many things ,such as studying pressure, and family problem and other realitic problem.in their minds ,everything should be simple but not ,so their pure dreams broken easily.

I suffered and had difficulties too as a child being so poor..but my dreams were never broken...it persisted. So I think it doesn't follow that being poor means having broken dreams. It is part of a child's innocence to keep on dreaming and hoping for a wonderful tomorrow.
