But now I changed my mind.

It is not sinful at all to be rich.
What's sinful is to look down on people which are less rich than you.
It is an attitude thing. A lot of rich people think that they are better than the rest because they have money. When in fact a lot of poor people are smarter and wiser than many rich people. It is just that those poor people did not get the chance to become rich... because of circonstances.
What's count... is not how much money you have... but what you do with it... how you live your life... and how much understanding you have of life in general.
No-one expect you to give your money away to the poor. But one expect you to show some understanding and kindness to the people less fortunate than you. And you sort of did show that through your private message about "ganotherapy". That show that you care... and it makes you a good person.

Some of the poor are just as bad as some of the rich. They have an attitude problem because of their lack of education.
Some of the poor resent the rich just like some of the rich resent the poor.
Their lack of education make it impossible for them to interact with the rich. They feel inferior and the rich don't help by making them feel even more inferior.
Lets face the fact... an un-educated person has nothing in common with an educated one. Which make it impossible for them to form any kind of relationship.

Hi Aussies...Thx for your complement. I am very touched. From your response, I can feel tht you are a person who look at everyone n everything around you. You are not the selfish type.
You are right by saying 'poor' people are not given the chance to be rich... and the rich shd show more understanding n kindness to the less fortunate. Do you know tht the poor tends to keep their distance from the rich?

Hmmm.... I look at the situation differently. Everyone of us came into this world as equals. There shd not be any borderline in between. We shd try to connect with each other regardless of financial or educational status, color, age etc.. It's a beautiful world with lots of beautiful people!

Ok, what made you change your mind? My opinion, i dont think its sinful to be rich. It is a sin not to share, to waste money on unnecessary luxuries, to use money as a guard to cover bad things, to use money to create problems to other people, the list goes on and on. Money tends to create problems when one do not know how to handle it properly.

Good question sherinek! When I was younger I used to see rich people waste money on luxuries. I mean 'waste' as in, they already hv everything, property, big n beautiful homes, travel the world, expensive jewelleries n stuff... n yet they do not stop buying n buying n buying..... all for themselves.
Thru the yrs as I mix around with more people, I notice tht some real filthy rich people are so very down to earth n humble. They give so much (financially) to charity, the needy n the less fortunate. Best part is they do not know who they are giving to. They are helping Total strangers! And I think tht is the most beautiful thing to do...helping people whom you do not know at all!

I'm the kind of person who would still live as I do now if I were rich. Ok, so i would build my own house, but it would be modest, simple and practical. Occassionally, I would take a trip some where, and having kids, I absolutely would fly first class as you get more help with the kiddies. I would stay in accommodations that were modest and practical to my needs.
All in all, I would try to be the same person I am now!

I would of course be helping the organisations in my community. Education would be one area I would help with the most, as that is where we lack in generosity.
At the moment, we have little luxuries like take away occassionally, and I do indulge in the buying of the occassional item for my crafts.
I consider my family to be very rich with love and happiness.

Hi newzealtralian...it is not sinful to enjoy luxuries in life. Just remember to help the less fortunate. In fact, we do not hv to be rich to be able to help them. A little goes a long way.

I don't beleive it is sinful to be rich. However, how you decide to use your riches is where sin can come into it!
Being rich is the result of hard work and success. No one can truly say that is a sin!
However, If you spend it all on yourself that is where christians would beleive that it is a sin!
a rich person has more to give and has more power to do more for the community. Money talks so if you have it you can help out the poor a lot more.

Definitely NO. Being rich is not sinful. Its the way of how you will spend intelligently your money, its the way how you will spend your life. Its a matter of putting the right thing to the right place. Its a matter of discipline and compassion.

It is okay to have money, but you can't let money have you. A lot of people become rich and they start to think that money is everything and it is all that they need in life. There is so much more to life than having money.
Money can not buy true happiness. If you don't believe me, just ask Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Lindsey Lohan. We all know that money can not buy love, contentment, or long life. Money should be used as a tool to get the things that you need.
Most people would argue that there is no such thing as having too much money. There are some people that have so much money that it changes who they are as a person. They start to trust in it for all their needs and problems. They even start to feel like they are above the law and can do anything that they choose to.
A person can be filthy rich one day and totally wiped out the next. You should never put your trust in money. I do not feel that I am in a place to judge what others do with their money, because I do not know their entire situation. But, I do know that the word of God says, "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil." But, you can still be a quality person with money if you choose to be. Having money in and of itself is not a sin.

I don't think it is sinful to be rich, I think it is sinful to not do good things with the money you have. If you spend it all on yourself without helping in some way of your community or charity when you are able to, I think that could be sinful, if you allow your greed for money take over your life.

King David was rich, but he was a man after God's own heart. There's nothing wrong with being rich; it's what you do in order to become rich. Money in and of itself is not the root of all evil. "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:10 KJV)

Hi mushroomLady,
There are so many myths, movies, films, folklores that always related to the disadvantages of being rich. Actually they have loss hope and no longer having determination in their life.
To be rich is actually a compulsory as we will be having our next generations for our heirlooms. Being a rich person, materially, spiritually and habitually are much better than being a poor that could not help anyone even for oneself.
Not all rich person habitually bad, look to be in positive value and not the negative value. And do not relate financial standing to happiness status. Because there are in two different category of life element. Rich is tangible category and happiness falls into intangible category.
HAPPY DAPPY.

No, it is not sinful to be rich, but sometimes having a lot of money makes people get carried away and become wasteful. It is not wrong to have a lot- it is wrong to take what you have for granted and waste it, especially when there are so many people in need.

Dear friend, according to my opinion, it is not at all sinful to be rich. In fact, it is very good to be rich. wealth itself is not a sin, but only when you misuse your wealth (money) it becomes sinful. We only have to know how, where and when to spend the money.

Buying expensive things is snobish and it is not something that only rich people do. No, I don't think it is sinful to be rich. Being snobish is very unclassy and not only rich people are snobish. We need to know how to spend money. The rich people can get broke too, if they spend their money recklessly.

No not aat all. One of the objectives of the life is to live happily and to achieve happiness (for those who have no money) money is requried for:
1.buying a car
2. buying a house
3. to buy everything required for life.
4. to make members of the family happy.
So it is not sinful to be rich, it is your duty to aim at becoming rich.

I dont think it is a sin to be rich but it is a sin to love money. When someone loves money, they get selfish. They only think of themselves and they think they are better than anyone else.
I think that we all want a home, no matter how much money we have.

The real question could've been "Is it sinful to live a happy, wealthy and luxurious life?" or even "Is it sinful to live be wealthy, healthy and happy?"
The answer to all three are the same: a big, fat, "if-I-could-increase-the-size-of-the-font-on-MyLot-up-to-the-maximum-size-of-72-I-would"-sized...
"NO!!!!"
I've read my share of self-help, personal-development, etc. books like "The Science of Getting Rich", "As a Man Thinketh" and "Think and Grow Rich", and I do agree with them. I do have something to show you and everyone who has that same question that you've stated here. But for now, you do have a right to live the life you want to live. It's not sinful at all to be wealthy and rich. Not sinful at all.

It is not sinful to be rich. What is sinful is the love of money and that can happen whether you are rich or poor. The rich are that way because, aside from those who inherit their wealth or won it, they worked for their money and were careful. It would be a sin to be poor if that poverty is the result of taking it easy and sitting on your butt. Besides those expensive cars, wardrobes, furniture last quite a while, you do not have them breaking down so often.

I would be happy hearing why you changed your mind, i never thought that it is sinful to be rich.
i think that we can be rich in many forms, not only in the materialistic form.
rich people to my opinion are people that do know how to enjoy and appreciate every moment of life.
I am not rich, but i do know a few rich people that yes, do go to vacations whenever they want, buy new cars and so on, but they also donate alote of money to charity, and they do act like all people are equal.
so the answer to this question is that i really do not think of rich people negatively, it all depends what they do and how they treat people and other things in life.
