Why is this show so popular?

Because a large amount of people could involve in the show. For example, if one person have such desire and courage, he/she could join in the competition. It is obvious that almost any people has chance for the show. In constrast, other shows prefer to invite famous stars and celebrities. American Idol may satisfy the masses of poeple with such hope of being famous in public.

Man I must be way out of this world that is another show that I have never watched

Last season was very boring and the voting system was proved faulty and pointless ala Sanjaya...they need to change or its pretty much over...last season was very boring and people judge the viewers by the calls received..well people, 1 person can call in an unlimited amount of times...or at least more than once.

american idol is viewed all around the world. and i think it is huge because of Simon's (sometimes) sarcastic remarks. and of course there are funny contestants too. and as you go along the way seeing how good the singers who are making up to the finals.

I never watch that show since I am not living in United States, but in this country they also have the Idol, and I didn't watch it often. If I accidentally watch this show, maybe it is because I like to see and hear people singing.

It is popular because it has started numerous wonderful careers for people who were working smaller jobs to get by in life. The winners of this show as well as the runner ups all have possibilities of becoming stars in the music industry and make lots of money and helps others. The show is very entertaining as well since it is great to hear the good singers as well as watching people make fools of themselves on tv.

I LOATH reality shows.

You and me both Meg. When it first came out I used to watch it in the beginning of the season to see all those people that would try out that had no business doing so. I mean, who was telling these people that they can sing?!? But I don't even do that anymore. I think its the wonder of a person coming from small town beginnings having the chance of becoming a star that has people all crazy. But I feel like, if it isn't me, and it isn't someone I know, what's the point?

Well it's only gotten worse as the years have passed. I watch it to see if any good singers come out since I love music. I also watch it for the eye candy like Gina Glocksen and Haley Scarnato. Unfortunately I haven't been a fan of any of the winners since Kelly Clarkson. Carrie Underwood is ok, but I'm not a big country fan. I want a good rocker chick like Gina Glocksen to win, but these days people just vote for the most retarded contestant like that Sanjaya guy.

Im not an American Idol fan either. I think the show is very popular because we can watch people sing. People find it entertaining.

Its only worth watching the beginning to see the delusional people. Even that is getting real old, real fast. Rest of the show is plain garbage and not worth watching.

i love american idol. i watch it because ordinary people are given the chance to share their talents and make their dreams come true.

I've never been a fan of this show either. I don't like the idea of embarrassing people on television.
