Lots of people brag on the mac..but it's not always compatable with some sites..I know for some who have a mac..they cannot get into certain log on areas..
I work for a payroll company..and they have a login..and one thing mac users ask.."are you mac friendly " and they go on to explain their difficulties.
Could be that Mac is being improved upon..but their software all so different then the regular pc..this is what I have heard..I havent had one..
Many really love it..

I can say that your teen son will not have that much trouble changing operating systems. I really don't think that should be a factor in your decision.
What you should know is that Macs are much more expensive.
Also, what is your son going to use this computer for and how long do you want him to have it?
Graphics, art, music, etc, you want a Mac.
Gaming you want a PC, usually.
PC is easier to upgrade and more people know how to repair them.
Macs have far less viruses and no adware.
Also, the newest Macs are able to run Windows because of their intel chip. Therefore, if you do not mind paying a bit more, he can learn both operating systems, as well as have the stability of a Mac.
If he is interested in computer tech, programming, or anything like that, his future will have many more opportunities for jobs if he knows both platforms.
Off hand, I cannot think of more things to think about.

I would go for the bare bones PC, and get yourself a copy of Linux and if you must a copy of Windows XP home in case he needs it for school. He should learn both. Macs are expensive.
