As I have been sitting here participating in the discussions I have been also watching out my window - why you might ask - well it is because i is snowing for the first time this season! While I enjoy smow quite a bit it makes it hard to go outside with the kids and play. It is like 26 degrees outside and the kids get cold and if the get too cold the get sick - so the point of this discussion - what are some fun activities that you enjoy doing with your children when it is too cold to go outside and play! I am alwasy interested in finding new things to do with the kids and engage them in stuff that can be fun yet educational all in one - and sometimes it is just fun to get crazy and not care if you are learning a thing from it! Any suggestions that are appropriate are welcome!

I am in Minnesota and in dire need of some snow. It's been windy and cold with just the faintest sight of flurries. We want snow up here. HAHAHA!! I don't have kids but when my grandsons are over they love outdoor play so I just make sure they're bundled up big time and we play in the snow making snow angels, snowmen or having a snowball fight. This year I plan on taking them sledding often. That's if I don't get too cold. HAHAHA!!
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Well thank you Grandpa Bob! I agree that playing in the snow is fun - but when there is no snow it is just freezing cold -(24 today) None of the snow yesterday stuck as we have been so warm lately - it is hard to keep the kids engaged outside! On top of that I have one child who is asthmatic and prone to pneumonia and so we have to be careful there and another who gets ear infections quite a bit - while I do not beleive that I am an over protective mother who will not allow them to have any fun outside because of this I also have to be careful because of these factors! But I do thank you for your response and agree that I love to be outside as well! I hope that you get snow soon! I was born in SD so I know what the winters are up there and miss them drastically. It is odd that you do not have snow normally you have your first snow some where around Halloween!

Well... okay April, since I like you and all, I'll help here too.
But its time to stick my neck out, since I wouldn't make the best parent.
Uh anyways, here are some things you could do.
-Sketching in a sketchbook (seperate or all 3 in the same book taking turns on the same picture)
-Making crafts, jewel crafts/art (this could work)
-Popsicle or Macaroni crafts
-There are board games (family recommends Apples to Apples, I think its interesting)
-Painting/finger painting
-Make your own Christmas Ornaments (now I know this could work!)
-Maybe watch a movie or two
-Listen to music and enjoy or talk for a bit
-If they are indoors, maybe use a computer or typing program and let them have fun with that.
-Maybe cook with your kids. A good chili, gumbo, soup or something fun.
-Flower arrangement/art/crafts (fakes or real)
I will say this though, sometimes they have to play outside in the snow and you do too. Just really bundle up and layer. Then have fun outside! If anyone catches a cold, just rest, take hot showers or baths, take in hot liquids, oranges are good for health and stay warm. It happens, but it can be remedied.
Other than that, I've got nothing.
