My son just came by with a box of old Christmas ornaments. I thought they had
been destroyed when our house got hit by the 3 hurricanes back in 2004. Most of them are still in good shape and can be used so I will not have to spend money buying more. He also wanted to know if I wanted a "fake" tree....I don't think so. Some of the newest fake trees have some advantages and there isn't much to clean up when taken down. I kinda like the ones that have the lights built in them. But they don't smell as good as the real ones. When they invent one that has that fresh Christmas tree smell I might just try one...LOL
What will you have this year a real tree or a fake tree? Why?

I will have a fake tree as usual. One of the main reason is fear of fire. I may be just a little paranoid of that just because I have had a few close people and house fires. Luckily none of my own. The other reason being, I don't have to go out and buy a new tree every year. So I guess, the fake one is cost effective too. Although, I must say I do enjoy the smell when I go to friends' houses that have a real tree.

Hummm, are fake trees fire proof, now? I know some of the older one aren't and they were as dangerous as the real one. I keep my tree moist with spray and with a lot of water in the stand.
As for the fresh tree smell...
You can use the spray they sell in a can at the stores.
It may not smell like the real thing but it is pretty close.
My sister-in-law uses it and it does smell good. You could give
it a try, you never know, you may like it.

With the exception of only one year in my life when I was a kid and did have a fake tree, there's always been real tree. I just couldn't imagine having a fake tree EVER...I love real ones and it's kind of nice having a bit of a forest in one's living room for awhile..LOL

I'll have a small fake one. Thanks to droughts and poor growing seasons, its much harder to get a live tree. The fake tree is good to put up though I'll admit.

We started a family tradition about 16 years ago, where my husband and I took my daughter to the Christmas Tree Farm the first weekend in December, and we all picked out a tree as a family, and cut it down, and lugged it home, etc. We lived in Indiana, so it was always cold, and often snow. We even went the year I had my son; he was born Nov. 12th, and we took him in the pack thing, all bundled up. We went every year, until last year. We were having a rough year, and I was fixin' to move to Florida. We didn't do it this year, either. I always loved the tradition, and I loved the look of the real tree, although it breaks me out when I decorate it. But I hated the fact that the needles get everywhere, and I would be picking them out of the carpet for the whole year afterward. We had just a small fake tree last year, and we will have a bigger fake one this year. I'll let you know how it 'feels' with the fake one this year. lol. I'm sure it will be fine, but I do miss the tradition.

A fake tree. Although I do love nature and the outdoors, a real tree is too messy. Also, if you really want the pine smell in a fake tree you can just buy the fake stuff and spray it on. Another thing to add is a fake tree will eventually pay for itself and become cheaper than buying a real tree every year.

I dont think we are putting a tree up. I know I dont feel like it, and we dont have children so really what would be the point?
When I was a kid my mom and dad bought real trees and I loved the smell of them. They were full and big and I loved to decorate them with all the lights and stuff. Then as I got older she got a fake one with the lights built in. On a few occassions I remember convincing her to get a real one, but she mostly used the fake one. It was a little cleaner, and it didnt need water and all that good stuff to keep it fresh and green looking. I just hated cleaning up all the needles that fell off. lol

We always leave the state for Christmas because our families do not live near us. So, we just set up a fake tree. As for losing your belongings because of hurrricanes, I definitely know how that is! I lived in Biloxi, Mississippi during Hurrricane Katrina. I have had to buy all new stuff as well.

I'm going to have a fake tree this year. I love real tress but I don't like having to clean up the needles everyday. Also I have two dogs and the puppy likes to chew on twigs and branches so a real tree may not be a great idea until she gets out of that habit. The fake tree is just going to be a lot easier this year.
