Would you want to be a penquin parent?

Penguin parents don't get the respect they deserve - penguin family

I watched March of the Penquins for the first time a couple of nights ago and can't get it out of my mind. Now there are a set of parents I wouldn't want to be. I don't know who has it worse the mother, father or the poor baby! They pass the poor little thing back and forth between each other, the parents can only shuffle along to keep baby from falling out, the father has to leave for months at a time. There is so much more that makes me think these poor little penquins don't get the recognition they deserve as parents. The whole process just amazed me!What do you think about penquin parents? Seriously! Would you want to have to deal with all they do? Sitting here watching the movie I couldn't help but wonder why God made it so they had to go through such horrifying experiences to have a family!

Penguin parents? Don't you mean Parent Fathers? That's the thing I think is so interesting about how Penguins mate. With humans the woman is stuck with the baby until it's born (and don't take that the wrong way as stuck, I just mean literally, not figuratively) and the woman can not just walk away unless she destroys the life of the baby. The father on the other hand can up and leave and not even see the baby born. The baby will survive even so without the father. Whereas in the life of the penguins, the Father is the one who cares for the baby and see the baby born. If the father abandons it, the baby penguin has no chance of life. It's something real life fathers should realize.

I wouldn't want to be either the penguin father or mother! That poor guy has to walk miles to get food after standing there with that baby all tucked in! lol. Then the mother has to wait for him to come back and could lose the baby to the cold weather while he's gone. You're right...human fathers could learn a lot from them.

Well yeah the lives of both are tough, but that's the way nature intended or something. I have a book about the penguin father and how people can learn a lot from them or something. I got it free for some book club a long long time ago.

I'll pass on being a penquin parent - have my hands full with just being a human parent... Going through some really tough times with ,my youngest right now :( just want to cry... I liked happy feet - but even that showed the difficulties of being both a penquin and a parent.

Amen to that - and being a single parent is the worst of all. I've done my best and my son even told the police when they came to the house that 'Mom raised me better I just messed up'.

Hey, it's nice to see you back if only for one discussion! Bringing up kids is the toughest job I know of and will and I'll fight anyone who disagrees.

I was crying when watching the movie. My friend, we are like penguins. It takes longer and less dramatic to take care of our children, but we all scarified. You get the point. We need to respect all animals. Many are as good parents like penguins and sometimes better than people. Animals don’t complicate anything and they are ready to die to protect small babies.

Ahhh, I feel much you like do. Animals sometimes make much better parents than humans do and get less respect.

I saw that movie a while back with my daughter. I was mesmerised by it. So beautifully produced & fascinating to see what these penguins do to survive.

Passing the child from one parent to the other, the father leaves for long periods of time? That sounds like the dual custody family of today.but with the penguins I think the parenting duties are really split down the middle.Doesn't the father keep the baby while the mother goes to feed and when she comes back, the switch places?

Yes, that's what they do. I just can't imagine having to shuffle around like that holding the baby between my knees! lol....

I watched this movie with the kids a couple years ago. I kept wanting to watch it but they had no interest, but finally one night it was "my pick" and we watched it. We were all in awe of this movie. It was so amazing to watch their life. It is so amazing that they can last considering everything that they go through. Such a harsh way of life. I would never want to be a penguin but they do amaze me. After watching this the kids were so amazed and really enjoyed it. I would like to see it again soon now that you reminded me. Thanks

Hi country, That was a very good, educational movie. I couldn't get anyone to watch it with me, so I watched it alone. The way these penguins have little ones and the partnership between parents was awesome. They had to do their best to keep the little one alive, at great cost to themselves. If parents now co-operated together as much, there may not be so many problems with our young ones. I did not envy their role, and do not wish to take on either of them, even though they are to be admired. Happy posting..
