Do you know when you are about to get very, very sick? Does your body give off warning signs or does it sneak up on you?
I've been feeling kind of run down the last couple of weeks and I thought it was b/c of the change in the whether but then a day or two ago I got it...a cold sore. The only time I get a cold sore is when I'm about to get a major bout of the flu...it generally turns into pneumonia and I am laid up for 2-3 weeks. I have been eating bowls of chicken noodle soup and trying to stay indoors but I still know it's coming.
What do you do when you get the flu or get sick? Any special remedies that help you through it?
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Oh, you need to be very careful, since you've had pneumonia once already! Every time you even get a cold, it's gonna turn into pneumonia!
When you start feeling run down, that's when you need to start slowing down, and start taking the precautions!
You know they make so many hundreds of medicines, but do you know that the best medicine of all is rest, and comfort! You're body has the capability to heal itself, but it needs help with your resting, and not overexerting yourself!

You make a very good point, Musicman6.
" Every time you even get a cold, it's gonna turn into pneumonia!"
Although it's not set in stone that Pneumonia will be the end result of every cold, it is a very real risk.
There are several different types of Pneumonia: Bronchial, Bacterial, and yes -- Viral. So, if one has had viral Pneumonia (as I had, as a child), then special precautions must be taken to avoid a chest cold becoming pneumonia.
This is why I take Echinacea/Yin Chiao at the first sign of malaise. If I feel any chest issues arising, then I start taking "Lung Tonic", like crazy! The primary ingredients are: Mullein, Horehound, Elecampe, Pleurisy root, and Echincea Astragalus. All have a long, strong anectdotal history of aiding lung function & healing. Suffice it to say that I haven't had a chest cold turn to pneumonia in over two decades -- thankfully!

Yes I have nightmares for a couple of nights beforehand. That's how I know I'm going to be sick, even if it's just a slight cold. I always have had that, even when I was a small child apparently that's how my grandparents knew I was going to be unwell.

Knock on wood I have not been really sick in years. The flu went around one year while I was working at a doctors office so they gave all of us medicine to fend off the worst of it. You might want to consider a flu shot if you are the type to get pneumonia. Also there is a pneumonia shot you can take too. Otherwise for the good old cold, aspirin, and chicken soup. An old doctor friend of mine once told me that no matter what you do the cold is going to stay for a week to ten days. So just drink fluids and take aspirin.

I felt like that Friday night. Saturday wasn't so bad, Sunday as I woke up for church I felt my stomach start to gurgle. I sat down to have my morning coffee and then it began. No church for me. I spent the day with one or the other end of my body in the commode. I vomited so hard the last time, I threw my neck out. That's why I haven't been on here much this weekend. My neck is still bothering me, but at least my tummy is feeling better.

My fingers seem to work faster than my brain. Remedies....load up on vitamin C and lots of water. Flush your system out as much as you can. Echinacea will help as well.

Right before I get a cold I get a very bad headache. Then day later it starts with the sniffles and sneezing. I have been very lucky not getting the flu. The last time I had the flu was 35 years ago and I got the Hong Kong flu. I had it so bad they think I might have built up some kind of immunity. Thank God!

Hey t68,
Sorry to be so late on your discussion,I'm catching up my emails now |:x
I hope you didn't get the flu-fluids are good when you think you may be ill(eg:the chicken noodle soup).I eat ice often & I think that keeps me from getting ill w/ the fluids plus the cold keeps germs from multiplying also eating ice brings your temp down if you have a fever.HTH

lots and lots of rest and many blankets to sweat it out.seems to be the only thing that works for me.and plenty of fluids to drink.
the vicks stuff seems to help with congestion (drops or balm) if you can get past the smell of it.

Whenever I feel on the verge of a cold or something worse, I eat lots of garlic. I also juice two cloves of garlic with 3 apples and a wedge of ginger. We bought a juicer about 3 years ago and it is really worth its weight in gold. The garlic drink is nasty to drink but it seems to be great for helping to get rid of colds and flu.

Thank God I seldom get sick, once a year at the most; excluding ocassional headache or stomach ache. But when I do get sick, I've observed that I usually feel very cold. As a prevention, I tuck myself in a blanket for several minutes up to an hour until I could feel that I've perspired. If ever the coldness recur, this is the time I take precautionary medicines. Though I seldom get sick, I know that my body does not easily adjust to cold weather and so I stay from cold drinks or staying out late.
If my memory serves me right, the longest period I've stayed in bed was only about 3 or 4 days in my lifetime. It's very hard being sick. No matter how delicious the served food is; you can't appreciate it as much. A lot of fluid intake really does help. Hope no one gets sick in the house. God bless and take care.

I recommend that you find a source for antibiotics and lay in a course of antibiotics ASAP if you wanna catch this ague before it catches you. Also while eating soup is good for you at the same time you want to wrap yourself in warm bundles and try to sweat. Consume oceans of vitamin C packed fruit juices and most important baby yourself. Hot baths also help, flu and virus' hate to be over heated that is why when you're sick your body raises the temperature to kill as many of the nasty little bugs as possible.

Oh yes your body will usually let you know .Some people do not pay attention and they miss the signs, but i do believe you know because you sorta feel the change in your body. Its good that you are staying in and keeping warm.Chicken soup is good, and drink lots of liquids and start pumping up on vitaminC , that will really help..A lot of people may not know this but a cold is a virus and vitamin C will treat a virus where antibiotics will not...You take care and hopefully you will feel better soon...

Whenever I'm sick, flu or worse, I will follow doctor's advice. Most of the time I know that I will, because I will have the same feeling you had before you were sick. Then I would pay extra attention to my health including vitamin intake and take more rest, sometimes it works I don't get sick, sometimes I still get sick but I'll heal faster.

My body tells me when I'm coming down with something, by tiredness, weakness, headaches, and soreness. It's like every bone in my body gets sore. I know it's not the bones, it's the muscles but it feels that way. To ward off getting the flu I do like you and eat chicken soup. I also drink a lot of water, and take some Contact C. I up my dose of vitamins, get more rest and take long hot baths to loosen up the muscles. This usually works for me and then if I do get the flu, it's just a little one that lasts only a few days.
You might want to take more viatmins and some Contact C to see if it helps you.

i just try and tough through it. mind over matter seriously. i believe that the 'i don't get sick' mentality certainly helps you think you feel better. it is amazing how resilient people can be if they're in the right mindset. also the airborne medicine is good, citrus drink thing that you put in water. full of vitamin C
