I know what you are going to think, that I am one of those resented Christmas haters, but I am not. The fact is that most brands, most media, everything, start with the Christmas campaign NOW. What for? to sell more, and it really pisses me off, because that's not the way it should be. I mean, Christmas should start being an issue in mid December, not by the end of november.
Even the street lights are set in my city already and they will turn them on next week!! how is that possible? It's all business and marketing nowadays, and that is not the way it should be. I don't say it because of the religious connotation, i don't mind that, it's just that they're fooling us like fools so that we just buy more.
How do you feel about this? do you agree that Christmas are becoming a massive marketing event lately?

I agree that Christmas is way over marketed. I am not religious, but I love this time of year to spend with my family and friends. Sure, presents are nice, but they are not the most important thing. I am teaching my children the same thing. Sure, the 5 year old is stoked about Santa coming, he's 5, but he is also excited about the grandparents coming for the day and the dinner he gets to help cook. The 15 year old is of course excited about her presents too, but she is much more excited about spending the day with the family. They are also both eager to decorate the tree, which is a whole afternoon experience, (that will NOT take place until the 15th of December, I refuse to have my tree up now like may people do) and it is for them to do. I help out with the lights and lift the little one up to put the Christmas star on, that's it. The oldest is having one of her friends come over to help and I can't wait. It'll be great to watch them all work together. This is what Christmas should be about, family and love, not the store bought - Martha Stewart - gotta be perfect - must have the most expensive gift holiday that we are bombarded with daily. This starts after Remembrance Day here (November 11)and it sickens me. I hope that teaching my kids what the holidays are suppose to be about is a lesson that stays with them, and that they pass it on as well.

I know how you feel. It’s the same everywhere. Here in India too, the major festivals become one big branding exercise for all the companies worth their products. But I enjoy this time of the year too, as a lot of items are on sale and I can shop for many more things than would have been possible otherwise.

I am offended by the commercialism because it overshadows other equally significant holidays in USA and I am sure in other countries as well. Especially USA Veterns Day and Thanksgiving. Both days we should celebrate as great as or more so than Christmas.

I tired of the Christmas Marketing Techniques many years ago. Is it any wonder people of Faith are giving up Organised Religion?
The whole Christmas experience has been turned into a fiasco of
buying and selling, such as Jesus turned out of the Temple.
Its a sickening mix of overplayed music, overviewed TV commercials, overused decorations, and overrated Hype!
Get Over It!

You are right, all the holidays is abotu big marketing to make people more and more shopping. like black friday , yeah they will show you all this good sales, so will spend hundreds and hundreds for thing you don't really need. i like christmas decoration, but sometimes it is just a little bit too much and too soon. but can we do something about it? I don't think so. just try to not buy anything we see.

Lightnin, I am right there with you. It's gotten to the point that I hate Christmas anymore. Families don't even seem to get together to celebrate. They just get together, open gifts as fast as possible, then go their seperate ways. It's really sad. I actually just wrote an article about giving and receiving gifts for Christmas. You can read it here if you are intersted: http://www.helium.com/tm/703076/giving-better-receiving-maybe
